Dear Friends,
Welcome back to JYJ Red Angus! We are doubly excited to host our second production sale event with you! It’s with much enthusiasm for the cattle industry that we delightfully hostyou again. We hope you will be joining us for some good ‘ole southern style food, sweet fellowship amongst neighbors and friends, and the bond that brings us all together – cows, better yet, Red Angus cows! We extend many thanks to you for your interest in the Red Angus breed and our genetics. It has always been our desire to help build and promote the incredible breed of Red Angus cattle in the southeastern United States. The southern climate is very appropriate for the red-hided, heat-tolerate, easy- fleshing Red Angus cattle to thrive and efficiently grow, gain and grade. So, take a look at this exceptional offering. Then plan to join us on sale day and enjoy a good time with us in the southern-most part of Alabama!
At JYJ Red Angus, we continue to work hard to utilize and enhance the most superior, excelling genetics in the breed that we feel will benefit the next generation of Red Angus progeny. We use the most up-to-date technologies in our mating decisions by use of DNA testing, ultrasound scanning, expected progeny differences and sire group analytics. We strive to attain the “total package” product when it comes to our cattle; we really do want it all! And we feel very confident that through Red Angus, cattle producers can have it all! From fertility and excellent mothering nature of the females to the wide spread growth traits and efficiency in converting feed into exceptional carcass traits, to the moderate, eye-appealing structure, as well as docility, longevity and sustainability of the cowherd – this breed does it all! We can go on and on about the beneficial traits of these gorgeous animals.
We don’t want anyone to miss out! With both a seed stock and commercial herd of our own, we truly are working to raise cattle that can adapt, excel, and benefit any operation while serving many purposes and doing all things right! We think of it from conception to consumption; each step through the process is vital and we are dedicated to treating each aspect with full attention, responsibility and insight to be nothing less than excellent. Our mission statement shows that we are continually striving for excellence from the conception of the fetus (and really before in the conditioning of the cow and the mating) to the consumption of beef on the consumer’s plate. It is with much prayer and patriotism that we offer you a superior offering of cattle. We desire to keep this great nation as we know it, with the freedoms, protection, and bountiful beauties within the land, livestock and legacies we all love so much! We know you will love the Red Angus cattle and, even more, the fellow breeders, just as much as we do! So, make your plans to attend. We extend many thanks to you for your interest, your support, and your passion! Ranch On, my friends!
Sincerely,
Jim Yance

FERT(CowFertility)
Predicts differences in the number of calves produced by bulls' daughters by the time they reach the age of 8 years. Daughters from a bull with a 2.0 FERT EPD would be expected to produce on average - one more calf by the time they reach 8 years of age than daughters from a bull with a 1.0 FERT EPD.
$Profit - Nearly every trait that impacts profit.
Revenue Traits:
• Calving Ease = More Calves
• Weaning & Yearling EPD = More pay-weight
• Days to Conception = more lbs and more calves
• Carcass Weight = worth more up to 1050 lbs.
• Marbling = valued based on grid premiums
• Ribeye area = value as impacts Yield Grade
• % Retail Product = more yield is more meat Cost Traits:
$Ranch - Cow/Calf Profit Index for producers who sell calves at weaning and want to optimize pounds of calf produced per acre.
$Feeder - Post-weaning Index includes traits that impact profitability in the growing, finishing and carcass phases of the beef supply chain.

If Your Goal is Profit...Select for it! Use
the Selection Index that best fits your Operation
$Profit
Developed for operations that raise their own replacements and retains ownership on steers and cull heifers, which are marketed on a Quality Based Grid.
$Profit assumes a bull will sire 100 progeny over his useful lifespan.
$Profit Combines all the traits that comprise both $Ranch and $Feeder to yield one number that predicts Ranchers' Bottom Lines.
$Profit Example:
• Bull A has a $Profit of $15,000
• Bull B has a $Profit of $10,000
= We would expect Bull "A" to produce an additonal $5000 of profit to the ranch over his service life ($50 per calf x 100 calves) when compared to Bull "B".
Multi-generational use of $Profit will move both $Ranch and $Feeder in a positive direction, just not as fast as the singular use of $Ranch of $Feeder.
$Ranch
Developed for cow/calf producers who retain their own replacements and market 100% of the steer calves and cull heifers after weaning.
Traits included in $Ranch: Fertility, Milk, Weaning Growth, Cow Herd Feed Intake and Mature Cow Size
$Ranch Example:
• Bull A has a $Ranch of $80
• Bull B has a $Ranch of $40
= We would expect Bull "A" to produce $40 per head increased profit when compared to bull "B" in a cow/calf operation that raised their own replacements and sold all other calves at weaning.
Multi-generational use of $Ranch will ultimately result in: moderation in mature cow size, improved fertility, modest gains in weaning weight, improved stocking rates and ultimately - increased pounds of calf harvested per unit of feed/land resource.
$Feeder
Developed to compare how bulls will impact profitability in the post-weaning phase (weaning to harvest).
Traits included in $Feeder: Feed Intake, Post-Weaning Gain, Carcass Weight, Quality Grade (Marbling), Yield Grade
$Feeder Example:
• Bull A has a $Feeder of $100
• Bull B has a $Feeder of $150
= We would expect calves sired by Bull "B" to earn $50 per head increaded profit between weaning and harvest when compared to calves sired by bull "A".
Use of $Feeder in sire selection will maximize Feedlot Closeouts, but with no regard for the cow herd. Thus $Feeder should be used by herds that purchase their replacement females.

Both JYJ Red Angus and Red American Cattle are cooperators and have been producing bulls to be developed and marketed through R.A. Brown Ranch; in the case of Jim & Jessica Yance, this relationship is approaching 20 years. These bred heifers are often the sisters of the bulls that have been selling at the top of one of the elite bull sales in the country. The only difference is these are developed and designed to work in the deep southeastern United States.

Nematodirus (shown here), also known as the thread-necked intestinal worm, is an unsightly parasite that causes infections marked by diarrhea and loss of appetite − both of which open the door for other internal parasites to cause even more damage.
Add Safe-Guard® (fenbendazole) when you deworm to take out the profit-eating parasites that your ivermectin alone just can’t.1
If you’ve only been using ivermectin (or any other kind of -ectin), it’s time to add a dewormer from a different class to your protocol. Because you’re leaving resistant parasites in your cattle – and potential profit on the table. By adding Safe-Guard, you can kill more of those microscopic monsters than you can with ivermectin alone.2
This different-class dewormer is one more way Merck Animal Health Works for you.

The Fertility EPD (FERT) predicts differences in the calf crop percentage expected from a bull’s daughters! High Fertility EPD bulls will build cow herds with consistently better breed back and deliver a higher percentage of calves to the weaning pen.
Higher Fertility also lowers cow herd culling requirements which reduces replacement rates; which in turn reduces cow herd depreciation costs and provides a larger percentage of the heifer calves that can be sold. As you would imagine, these more desirable outcomes drive HUGE differences in profitability, so the Fertility EPD has tremendous impact on $Profit and $Ranch.
The Sale Catalog Data Explanation on the top of page 4 shows where the FERT EPD is presented in the sale catalog. The example below is useful for better understanding the trait units and how to interpret variation in the FERT EPD values.
FERT EPD Example:
Bull A has a FERT EPD of 2.5 Bull B has a FERT EPD of 1.1 1.4
We would expect the daughters of Bull A to produce on average 1.4 more calves over their first 8 years of production than the daughters of Bull B.

Commercial Red Angus Females: Research Validates Red Angus
as Most-Favored Female
Ranchers across the country have long recognized the value of Red Angus females as the foundation of a profitable cowherd. Now, independent research validates those years of cattle production experience with tangible data proving the Red Angus heifer’s worth.
Research Confirmation
Esther McCabe, et al., of Kansas State University, led a study that conrmed Red Angus are the most-favored female in the industry. McCabe and her team compiled ve years’ worth of pricing data from Superior Livestock Auction, comparing 13,804 lots of heifer calves totaling over 1.2 million head that sold in 116 video auctions.
The research team evaluated the effects of independent variables on the sale price of heifer calves that fell into six different breed composition groups: English, English crosses, English-Continental crosses, Black Angus-sired out of dams with no Brahman inuence, Red Angus-sired out of dams with no Brahman inuence, and Brahmaninuenced.
They deduced that Red Angus-sired heifer calves bring $5 to $9 more per hundredweight than all other breed types.
Rancher Trusted
While market research validates the price advantage of Red Angus heifers, ranchers have tested and trusted her worth on the range for years. Red Angus females are desirable as replacement heifers because they mature into productive mother cows that reward producers with extra dollars in their pockets on sale day.
Red Angus cows have gained ranchers’ trust as a complete package through fertility, eshing ability, good disposition, longevity and excellent overall production. They produce feeder calves that earn premiums in the yard and on the rail through docility, feed efciency, conversion and carcass merit.
Over the years, stockmen have voted with their checkbooks, purchasing heifers they know will bring protability to their ranching businesses – and Red Angus females are their most-favored choice. ■
Independent research studying five years of Superior Livestock Auction data confirms the value of Red Angus replacement females.
Red Angus Stockyard
List or locate quality Red Angus replacement females at stockyard.redangus.org. Over 20,000 head of cattle are sold each year through the Red Angus Stockyard.
