Summer Board Meeting Actions

n MOTION to change the classification rule that permanent cows will be eligible for permanent score at their 3rd lactation. Motion 2nd. Motion passed.

Prior rule, Cows become permanent on the first score after their fifth birthday. The Type committee suggested the change due to the number of cows calving at less than 2 years old.

n MOTION to only list genomic tested animals on any of our published genetic evaluation reports. Motion 2nd. One opposed. Motion passed.

2023 TYPE CLASSIFICATION TOURS

This is a subject that has been discussed both for and against for some time. Example: Full sisters will all have the same Parent Average (PA) for all traits. When genomic tested the same heifers will have different results. This will apply to all lists for cows and heifers based on current criteria.

n MOTION to use ET suffix for all embryo calves regardless of IVF or conventional embryo collection. Motion 2nd. Motion passed.

REMINDER

National Show Production Awards

BSCBA Mission Statement

To promote and expand the Brown Swiss breed with programs that assist the membership and industry to compete favorably in the market place now and in the future.

For cows to qualify you must send individual production sheets (ICR) to the National office 2 weeks prior to the start of the National show. This includes the classes of Sr. 2 yr. old through Aged Cows. To qualify for the Component Merit class plus the Total Performance Award and Type & Production Award, individual production sheets must be sent that show all records.

PAPERLESS OPTION

Staff are working with several breeders on the process to go paperless with registrations. Breeders will be able to have registration papers sent in a file. Pedigrees could be sent also but, would need to be ordered. Herds on Brown Swiss Advantage (BSA) would receive registration papers with pedigrees included. Breeders would need to print copies if needed for showing or selling cattle. At this point we are still requiring signed original transfers to complete the process of documenting the change of ownership. Contact the National Office for details.

2023 Annual Meeting

President Tom Portner called the 143rd Annual Meeting of the Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders’ Association of the USA (BSCBA) to order on Friday, June 16, 2023, in Fresno, California. Executive Secretary Norm Magnussen gave the notice of the annual meeting. President Portner then called for a moment of silence for those deceased breeders and friends over the past year. Debra Wickart, Chair of the Tally Committee, gave the report: as of April 30, 2023, BSCBA had 590 members with a quorum requirement of 59. There were 77 members present in person or by proxy giving a quorum. A motion was made by Mitch Kappelman to approve the minutes from 2022, with a second by Matt Hendel. Motion passed.

President Portner addressed the drafted financials that were provided as we are in an audit year and the final audit documents were not given yet from the auditors. Barb Lee asked when the audit would be done. We are not sure, but it should be this month.

President’s Message

President Portner welcomed everyone to the meeting. He also thanked the California Brown Swiss Association for hosting this year. Portner also thanked Edwin Genasci for having the hosting of this convention on his bucket list and making it happen. He also thanked the staff that are present and not present for working so hard to provide service to our members on a daily basis. Portner introduced and thanked representatives from Hoard’s Dairyman, Dairy Agenda Today and Council on Dairy Cattle Breeding for coming to our meeting. He also thanked the sponsors for this event. Portner talked about the dedication of the board of directors that attend the 12 meetings that take place throughout the year. Portner recognized the absence of Jason Albert and how much he is missed on the board and then welcomed the new representative for District IV: Brent Moyer, MI. He talked about the World Conference that was held last year and noted it will be held next in Columbia in 2025. Portner talked about the launch of a new website that is coming soon. The board has also authorized the procedure for emailing registration papers and pedigrees. As of the end of May, Ayrshire and Milking Shorthorn Society are no longer having the Brown Swiss Association score their cows. We are still scoring Brown Swiss cattle and other breeds as well. Concern of data sharing has been an ongoing concern for the board of directors. Next year, we will be in Wisconsin for the convention, and Maryland/ Pennsylvania will be hosting the convention in 2025.We are still looking for states to host future conventions.

Executive Secretary Report

Secretary Norm Magnussen thanked the board for their dedication to the breed and the association. 2022 was a successful year for the association with the hosting of the World Conference. We had the World Premier Sale at Expo that was successful as well. Magnussen gave a report of how many head of cattle were exhibited in 2022 at the national shows. We have made changes to the Bulletin issues as reported in the June Bulletin. Junior Bell Ringer deadline will now be December 15th for this year with the change in special Bulletin issues. We are still moving up in average for production as we have in years past. Official herd book registrations were the same as in years past, but we are down in our identity enrollment program numbers. The staff will be working to help breeders that are falling behind to help them get caught up. We are now posting in the Bulletin starting in

June all new excellent scored cows. Magnussen asked our publisher about the number of companies or breeders who are advertising and it is not very many, and it is felt it could be better. Magnussen also recognized the staff and their hard work for the association. Every five years, we do an audit. We are confident that we are in a good financial position at this time.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Genetics Committee

Brian Lammers thanked the staff for the work that we are doing with the constant changes that are always happening. We are always working on improving our pedigrees as we are working to have Kappa and Beta casein added to pedigrees in the future. Lammers reported on the new genetic haplotype BH14 that was introduced in April 2023 genetic evaluation. Starting in August, we will only be including genomic tested animals on any evaluation lists that are presented in August.

Type Committee

Roger Read stated that the committee met in May for a type conference and it was a good conference. We have been recertified by PDCA with a score of 93. Permanent cows are now eligible at the 3rd lactation. New traits that are appearing on pedigrees are Thurl Placement, Udder Tilt, and Rear Teat Placement.

Show Committee

Brian Pacheco reported on the show committee meeting and stated that the Northwest National show is now just a qualifying show because of lack of numbers in previous years. The office has a new Judge’s application that is due June 15th. If applications are not received by the deadline, the judges will be removed from the list until they reapply. We did add four new judges to the judges list which were Brian Kelroy, Ryan Krohlow, Jenny Thomas, and Dave Rousseau.

Youth Committee

Dayne Voelker thanked everyone for coming. The youth committee met in March and has made some changes. One change was to move back the deadline for the Junior Bell Ringer contest to December 15th. Voelker reported on the fun auction and thanked everyone who participated.

Old Business

Barb Lee asked that since Edwin Genasci had arrived that we recognize him again for his work to have the convention in California. Lammers recognized Edwin’s dedication to the breed over his many years of service.

New Business

Cindy Warner asked about the Active and Historical Breeder voting procedures. Warner asked that there has to be a better procedure than letting non-cow friends vote for this award. She had talked to another breed and the breed stated that their board makes the selection for this award. Portner stated that the board has discussed this and there is a committee that looks at this. Hill stated that the quorum is not large enough to not include non-cow friends. Barb Lee asked about Roger Neitzel’s thoughts. Neitzel is aware of what concerns have been

4 July/August 2023 | Brown Swiss Bulletin www. brownswissusa.com

presented and appreciates the information that Warner has provided. Neitzel states that they are looking at improving the procedure. Warner also asked about the rule about listing donor dams in catalogs for Brown Swiss. Magnussen stated that the board did discuss this. He stated that other breeds have a policy for this but the board of directors are not ready to address this at this time.

Barb Lee asked about the change in permanent cow score and was looking for clarification. Winkelman provided more background on the decision. It was felt that being at 5 years old that they are not always at their best so the change was to make cows permanent at the 3rd lactation. Lee asked about the multiple E program and Winkelman stated that the program for Multiple E’s will not change.

Pete Vanderham asked about recognizing breeders that have been in past Bulletins and would like to see that more historical breeders are recognized, such as 5 breeders a year. He feels that there are breeders out there that have really contributed to the breed. Neitzel addressed the question and it is being discussed to recognize breeders in the future by having people bring forth names of breeders that need to be recognized as a possible option for selection.

ELECTION OF DIRECTORS

Richard Hill, NY, was re-elected as the District I Director. Laurie Winkelman, WI, was re-elected as District V Director. Matt Hendel, MN, was elected as the Director of District VII.

Matt Hendel thanked everyone for the votes and looks forward to working with the board and has enjoyed the convention.

Jason Albert & Roger Read were presented a citation of leadership for their years of dedication to the Board of Directors.

Katie Schmitt from CDCB addressed the membership about her work with the color breeds. She talked about the flow of data from the producers and the different sectors. Schmitt also discussed the reason why it is important to share data. She talked about the objectives for why a collaboration was started.

Edwin Genasci moved to adjourn. Carol

n Young Breeder Award n

Dayne Voelker, Perryville, MO

Congratulations to Dayne, Chad and Nancy Voelker for receiving the 2023 Brown Swiss Young Breeder Award.

The following is taken from the letter of support submitted by Jason Albert:

“I am writing this letter as a letter of support and to nominate Dayne Voelker for the 2023 Young Breeder award. It is my honor to nominate Dayne for this prestigious award. I have known Dayne for many years as we stall together and exhibit at shows on the state and national level.

“As many of you know Dayne’s father, Charles passed away in 2018. In his dad’s absence, Dayne has continued to carry the legacy of Voelker Swiss Farm in partnership with his brother, Chad, and their mother, Nancy. Voelker Swiss Farm continues to produce high-milking Brown Swiss cows that compete at the national show level. Since 2018, Voelker Swiss Farm has continued to earn All-American Nominations on an annual basis and compete very well at the state and national level. Not only is Dayne active on the Tanbark, he also is very active in the operations of Voelker Swiss Farm. He manages the breeding program including mating decisions, show program, and sale program. He is able to manage being a full-time doctor while also being active in the hands-on operation of the farm. He often returns home to help milk, operate equipment, and feed the baby calves. When he is not on the farm, he is in constant communication with his brother, Chad, about the daily operations of the farm. He and his fiancé, Kayla, recently purchased additional acreage next to the original farmstead and continue to buy registered Brown Swiss cows. Dayne is also active as a National Brown Swiss Association member. He currently represents District VI as a board director and chairs both the Youth and Cow Recognition committees for the Brown Swiss Association”.

Voelker Swiss Farm LLC is a third-generation dairy farm, started in 1946 by Dayne’s grandfather, Chalmer Voelker. Farming has been in the Voelker family for centuries, but Chalmer started the dairy in 1946 after returning from World War 2. Initially he milked a mixture of Holstein, Guernsey, and Brown Swiss. This quickly changed and Voelker Swiss Farm has been an entire milking herd of Brown Swiss since the early 1950s. They have been on official milk test and classification since 1976.

Voelker Swiss Farm’s current Rolling Herd Average on 152 cows is:

22,592m 4.3%f 972f 3.4%p 768p. The current philosophy of breeding

at Voelker Swiss Farm includes utilizing a mixture of production, type, udder composite, and positive health traits and continues to utilize an extensive young sire breeding program. While high type and udder composite are valued, each cow should have high production and health traits. While genomic evaluations on bulls are important, most important consideration is given to the maternal pedigree when choosing bulls for the breeding program.

The two cows listed below are having a very positive impact on the Brown Swiss breed across all continents.

Voelkers Migel Candid 4E94 All-American 5-year-old 2009. Lifetime 222, 610m, 9947f, and 7389p. Prominent offspring of Candid include Voelkers Wonderment Carabella E90 with records over 30,000 lbs. of milk. Voelkers Brook Cara E92 is a Brookings daughter out of Carabella. Cara is the highest PPR heifer to ever sell at public auction. She had a genomic PPR of +230 with +1.2 type and +1114 pounds of milk and was number one heifer on the PPR list when she sold at the “Swissconsin” National Sale in 2013. Cara would go on to reproduce many impactful offspring including, Kulp-Gen Ddvl Cliff, Cartel, CanDue, Congo, Car-P, and many more. Voelkers TD Carter is a household name and is a TD son out of Carabella. Carter is one of the few high type bulls that is over 1,000 pounds in milk. Carter held the title as number-one proven type bull for 3 consecutive years and is the reigning back-to-back Premier Sire of World Dairy Expo in 2021 and 2022, as well as 3-time Premier Sire of the Heifer Show at World Dairy Expo. He has sired over 60 All-American nominations with 9 in 2022. Other offspring of Candid include Voelkers Wndt Chillipepper. Chillipepper was a high production and type bull at Select Sires and sired many AllAmericans and All-American nominations. Voelkers Cadence Cameron was 2E92 and was the winning Jr 2-Year-Old at Southeastern National Show 2016.

Voelkers Durango Sasha 2E94 is a Durango out of SCF Victor Sarine. Sasha was purchased privately by Elite Dairy as a Sr 2-year-old in 2015 for $60,000. In 2016, she was winner of the last Futurity at World Dairy Expo, second place Sr 3-Year-Old to Delilah at World Dairy Expo and HM Intermediate Champion. She ended up being Reserve All-American Sr 3-Year-Old in 2016. Sasha was Nominated All-American 4-Year-Old in 2017 and a member of Nominated All American Sr Best 3 Females in 2017. Lifetime production records include 3 lactations with over 30,000 pounds of milk with a lifetime production of 168,740 pounds of milk, 8272f, and 6156p. Sasha currently has two sons in stud at ST genetics, Secret Weapon and Stretch.

TUDHOPE DAIRY LLC. ORWELL, VT - 30 YEARS

Miles H. & Cheryl S. Tudhope

Hans & Kristin Tudhope Family

The Tudhope’s moved to Orwell, VT, in 1988. Hans joined the farm in 2013 and at that time the LLC was formed. They are currently milking 120 cows with 50% being registered Brown Swiss. The herd has been on continuous DHI testing since 2013. They also make maple syrup in the spring that will improve any pancakes served.

HORSESHOE HILL FARM, WATERTOWN, WI – 30 YEARS

Norm & Joyce UglowNick & Buffy Uglow

Horseshoe Hill Brown Swiss is the lifeblood of Norm, Joyce, and Nick Uglow. Starting first as Norm’s family’s herd of Holsteins in Watertown, Wis. (1967), the farm began to incorporate Brown Swiss genetics when Joyce and Norm were married in 1969 and she brought along a Swiss calf. Joyce’s love of the big brown cow stems from her early days on the Ost Val Brown Swiss Farm in Burlington, Wis., where her father, Goodwin Jacobson, was the herd manager.

Since 1981, Norm and Joyce have been the sole proprietors of Horseshoe Hill after buying out Norm’s parents’ portion of the farm. Joyce’s show circuit roots were passed onto her son, Nick, who is highly involved in the operation and carries the same passion for continuing quality genetics and showring marketing. He and their friend and neighbor, Ryan Olson, assist on the operation daily, beyond their jobs off the farm. The herd of 40 head is now 95% Swiss and continues to drive Norm and Joyce’s active lifestyle.

The foundation of the herd today had started with the purchase of 2 bred heifers: Sunburst Dotson Frances “4E90” and Random Luck Koors on Taps “2E91”. These 2 cows produced numerous Excellent cows over the years and are favorites in the herd.

Riedland was started by Dan’s grandfather who moved to Wisconsin from Switzerland in 1920. Robert Rieder, Dan’s father, added more Brown Swiss to the herd until becoming 100% Brown Swiss. When Dan purchased the farm from his dad, they went from a tiestall barn to a parlor free-stall set-up in 2002. To fill the barn Holsteins were purchased. In 2013, there was another change made with the addition of two Lely robots installed. The Holsteins have been bred to Brown Swiss. At the present time, there are 50 Brown Swiss milking: 20 pure Brown Swiss with 17 that are RF 50% Brown Swiss and 13 that are 75% Brown Swiss.

TRIANGLE ACRES FARM, FREEPORT, IL – 50 YEARS

John & Wendy Korth and Family

Triangle Acres has been a family-owned-and-operated dairy for over 75 years, milking 87 head and looking to go to 100 of Registered Brown Swiss with a sprinkle of Holstein and Ayrshire now. The rolling herd average is 24,370m 1029f 862p. The Korths manage 200 acres of pasture and crop ground, growing mainly corn, barley, and alfalfa. The farm was started by Russel and Eva Korth in 1942, milking registered Brown Swiss in a tie stall facility where they still milk the herd today. John and Wendy started transitioning into the operation in the early 80’s while raising their family on the farm: Rebecca (Becky), Elizabeth, Amanda, and Benjamin (Ben). Each of the children aided in the day-to-day chores. The majority of this herd stems from and is most well-known for the Collection Polly family. Polly was a very profitable cow both in production and reproduction. Triangle Acres Payoff with Accelerated Genetics and Polo with Select Sires were two popular sons that have had an impact worldwide.

PINE TREE DAIRY, MARSHALLVILLE, OH, is the recipient of the Protein Genetic Herd Award for Group 1 (10-29 Cows). Pine-Tree Dairy, located in Marshallville, OH, is operated by the Steiner Family. Construction of the new dairy facility was finished in 2012 and currently houses 650 milking animals, with about 20 of them being Brown Swiss. They have a total of 5 facilities where they milk over 1,200 cows. Pine-Tree aims for increased protein pounds and percentage to reflect their breeding goals, while paying close attention to health traits and longevity, milk production, and proven cow families. Their goals for the Brown Swiss breed are to be able to provide bulls in AI that can accomplish those goals. A few of their favorites at the farm include a just fresh 2-year-old, Pine-Tree 7970 Elmstar 9196, Dam of Jaxson-P and Hilltop Silver Kadence, due to calve in July with her 3rd lactation, purchased this spring at the Midwest Revue. A fun fact for Pine-Tree is they have a Robot dairy, with 1 Brown Swiss cow milking there. She does a tremendous job, high performance, fast adapting to robot, and relatively calm nature.

NOR-BERT FARM OF BREMEN, IN, Is the recipient of the Ira Inman PTPR Trophy for Group 2 (30-49 cows). their three children, Dalton, Dillon, and Breanne. They are currently milking around 150 cows including Brown Swiss, Holsteins, Ayrshires and Jerseys. Approximately 35 milking are registered Brown Swiss. In 2022, they had two cows make Class Leader records. In total there were 23 Class Leader and Honor Roll records produced by Nor-Bert Farm Brown Swiss.

Twelve years ago, the family added three robots to the farm and they haven’t looked back! The cows are milked around the clock, some milking three or more times per day. “There is an increase in production from the robots,” admits Jeremy. “They’ve been really useful as I don’t have to worry about cows being milked.” They run 1000 acres, of which 800 are owned.

Identity Enrollment program back in the mid 1960’s. The rolling herd average is 20,000 lbs. of milk with a 4.19% butterfat and 3.6% protein. They grow approximately 125 acres of alfalfa hay, 150 acres of corn, and 150 acres of soybeans, with about 65 acres of pasture.

The dry cows and youngstock are rotationally grazed and the dairy herd are fed TMR consisting of corn silage, alfalfa haylage and a protein mix of canola meal and exceller meal. Our breeding objective is to use the highest PPR and milk bulls available, both genomic and proven, while leaning more heavily on the genomic bulls.

ONWORD CATTLE COMPANY OF SUMNER, IA, is the recipient of the Progressive Genetic Herd Award for Group 2 (30-49 Cows) Onword Cattle Company started as a division of Onword Swiss that consisted of other breeds. Jacob Worden, current owner of Onword Cattle Company, worked with his mom and dad through school, then officially took over in June of 2020. His parents provided a solid foundation and continue to help along with his siblings, when they are able, while still having some cows in the herd.

Currently, Onword Cattle Company is milking 100 cows, approximately 50 Brown Swiss, 25 Ayrshire, and the rest Jerseys, Holsteins, and a few crosses. All their heifers are raised at the same location. Jacob works with his neighbors in purchasing feed and trading bedding/ manure for his herd. In 2021, the farm moved to the freestall and parlor set up they have now. It is located just a few miles south of Sumner, IA, (approximately 17 miles from the old farm) and is situated on 10 acres, with the main buildings constructed in 2017/2018.

Calving in are some Silver daughters that are standing out along with the Kade daughters, being solid productive cows for their farm. The heifer-pen standouts include daughters from Tank, Pactole, and Biver Phantom, and they are looking forward to the Collaps calves to be born. On farm there are two ‘V’ families, the Viola line and a line that goes back to his first heifer purchase, Kruses LJ Formula Vanna. For their breeding and genetic programs, Jacob Worden is trying to use more polled bulls, get more into genomic testing, and hopefully get back into flushing their higher genetic-valued cows.

Onword Cattle Company always welcomes visitors and inquiries!

Brad and Pam noted, “We have been blessed with five children who always enjoyed working together on our family farm while growing up. They each discovered specific areas of interest on the farm, and those interests have carried into their adult lives and careers. Today, our family has grown from 7 to 18, with another grandson due soon. Our children and grands visit often, always happy to lend a helping hand if needed. They appreciate being able to share with the next generation the values of faith, family, and a strong work ethic which they learned while being raised on the family farm.”

COZY NOOK FARM OF WAUKESHA, WI, is the recipient of two National Awards for their Brown Swiss dairy herd. Operated by Tom and Joan Oberhaus, herdsman Dan Gerrits and his wife Brittany Renn Gerrits, and assisted by son Charlie Oberhaus and fiancée Amie Simac, they have been milking cows fulltime since 1985.They have approximately 66 milking Brown Swiss, 65 up-and-coming Brown Swiss heifers, and a handful of Guernseys on the farm. The Brown Swiss currently average on 66 cows 29,169M 4.3% 1,243F 3.5% 1029P.

Cozy Nook Farm received the Ira Inman PTPR Trophy Group 3, milking 50-99 cows, which is based on a total progressive dairy program including breeding, feeding, and management. Winners are determined by assigning point values to protein, butterfat, milk, classification, percentage records received, and number of years on DHIR official test.

Cozy Nook Farm was also awarded the Protein Genetic Herd Award Group 3. This award is presented to the herd with the top genetic level in the past year based on Actual PTA protein of all cows with the

same herd code calving within the past two years. Since 2014, Cozy Nook Farms has won the Ira Inman PTPR Trophy six times, the Protein Genetic Herd Award eight times and the Progressive Genetic Herd Award three times. According to Tom, he realized in the early 1980s that protein production is very important to maintaining a profitable farm. He also knew that Brown Swiss cattle are the best at producing high amounts of protein, which was his main reason for owning and breeding Brown Swiss cattle. Tom’s advice to others is to “have a goal and keep striving for it.” While he focuses on genetics, he says he always remembers his main goal, which is to breed for longevity. Cozy Nook is located in a very urban area which gives them lots of opportunities to share their dairy story. They raise 20 acres of pumpkins, Indian Corn, gourds and squash for their roadside fall market. Fall is also a popular time for school field trips; about 1200 children enjoy an educational farm tour and hayride to the pumpkin patch. They also sell 1800 Christmas trees, wreaths, and garland after Thanksgiving.

NM$ and components when making sire selection. It’s not just pounds of fat and protein that are considered, percent of test needs to be plus as well. The Wessels were one of six 2021 Platinum Award winners for reproductive excellence from the Dairy Cattle Reproduction Council. The herd pregnancy rate was very impressive, running consistently near 39%. With such good reproduction, merchandizing becomes an added bonus. The Wessels have sold cattle for export and to domestic buyers. A lifetime breeder of Brown Swiss, Dave and his family farm 700 acres owned and rented in Southwestern Wisconsin.

PAUL ZIMMERMAN, BRODHEAD, WI, is the recipient of the Progressive Genetic Herd Award for Group 3 (50-99 Cows). Spring Grove Dairy was built in 1998. In 2010, Paul and Hilary made the tough decision to leave Northern California and move to Wisconsin. They wanted more opportunity for their new family and wanted to help turn around a struggling dairy. At the time, Spring Grove Dairy was milking around 1800 cows and after some heavy culling that number fell by 200 cows. Currently, Spring Grove is milking 2000 cows which are predominantly Holsteins, but Paul has a soft spot for his brown cows. Along with the Holsteins, the herd includes 300 Jerseys and 80 Brown Swiss. Currently the herd is running 102 pounds of ECM milk. Spring Grove farms a little over 1400 acres, taking care of their corn silage needs and buys excess commodities and haylage. Paul knows that a healthy and happy cow can always give you high-quality milk, so there is a major focus on cow comfort and genetics. At Spring Grove, they have been genomic testing for many years and have certainly seen the benefit through marketing high genomic females and males and increasing the profitability of the herd.

WESSEL FARMS, LLC OF MINERAL POINT, WI, was awarded two National Herd Awards 2022 Progressive Genetic Herd Award for Group IV (100 + Cows) 2022 National Protein Genetic Herd Award for Group IV for (100 + Cows).

The farm is family owned and operated by David & Joyce Wessel and son Rodney. Grandson Thomas is now working into the day-to-day duties on the dairy. HILLTOP ACRES OF CALMAR, IA, were the 2022 Ira Inman PTPR Trophy for Group 4 (100 + cows). Today, Hilltop Acres Farm consists of 470 acres owned and another 330 rented, raising all corn and alfalfa. Currently, there are 400 Registered Brown Swiss cows and close to 400 of young stock on the farm. In 1997, Dennis & Barb built a 120-cow free stall barn/parlor setup. Prior to that, the cows were milked in a 68-tie stall barn. In 2014, another free stall barn with 240 stalls were added along with a new special needs barn/calving barn that can hold 30 head. Also in 2014, the parlor was remodeled to a double 12 parallel with a new milk house and break room. The cows are milked 3x a day. They raise all of their own heifers and bulls. Most of the livestock is fed a TMR ration except the young calves. Heifers 6 months on up are housed in a Virginia-style heifer barn. All calves six months and under are housed in a 68 X 152 calf barn, where calves 3 months and under are fed with a DeLaval automatic calf feeder. Summer of 2015, the calf barn was added onto and a second Delaval Automatic calf feeder was added. Bulls six months and over are housed in a pole shed open to the south, that was remodeled in 2015. Walhalla Farms (1899-1962)

Frank Freemyer, J. Frank Zoller, Mrs. Jessie T. Zoller Breakabeen, NY, Middleburg, NY, Rexford, NY

This year’s Historical Master Breeder had a tremendous influence on the early development of the Brown Swiss breed for over 60 years from 1899 to 1962. This year we recognize the Walhalla Farm of New York and the 3 owners over those 60 some years.

The Walhalla herd was founded in 1899 by Frank Freemyer (owner from 1899-1924) initially at Breakabeen, NY and then at Middleburg, NY. While taking a course of Agriculture at Cornell University, he was attracted by the sturdy and pleasing appearance of Brown Swiss and the recent record of the cow Brienz. By 1922, he had as many as 150 head and had sold more than 600 head in 26 different states and 5 foreign countries. He also had the first Swiss to go into Canada.

The September 1922 Bulletin cover shows one of two fine big dairy barns at Walhalla Farms in Middleburg, NY. Also shown is Mr. Freemyer and the cow, Edna C 3rd as referenced below.

If you have read the recent April Visiting the Past page in the Bulletin, you will see that Mr. Freemyer was appointed Secretary of Production when the Registry of Production (ROP) program was established in 1911. He was also the first to enroll his cows on the ROP program.

Also beginning about 1911, the herd traveled the show circuit east of the Mississippi for 10 years winning highest honors at the St. Louis exposition where it won ten blue ribbons, three championships and two diplomas. The herd was also recognized for its records of production.

The cow, Iola 3923, produced 16,844 pounds of milk and 685 pounds of fat as a five-year old placing her 4th in her honor roll class. The cow Edna C 3rd, on the September cover, produced 16,496 pounds milk and 669 pounds fat, making her the World’s Record four-year old of the breed.

Mr. Freemyer developed the bull, Tom Phylis 1769, who was the first bull to have 6 daughters on the ROP list. Born in 1903 and registered by Walter Fish, Mystic, CT, Tom Phylis was sold to Adna Barnes of Burlington, CT and then to Freemyer, who eventually sold the bull to Mr. T.N. Vail, President of the Bell Telephone Co. Your Historical Society has the yoke worn by Tom Phylis on display at the Historical Museum at the National Office.

In 1924 the Walhalla herd was purchased by J. Frank Zoller (owner from 1924-1932) of Schenectady, NY including the Walhalla name. Zoller, an officer at the General Electric Co., after a tour to Europe, was determined to have the best herd in the country. He found that in the Walhalla herd. He also bought splendid stock from various parts of the country. The herd was located at Hammond, NY and the Herdsman was R.C. Klussendorf.

In March of 1927, Zoller hired Harold C. Magnussen of Wisconsin as Herdsman. Magnussen served as manager of Walhalla Farms for 35 years until their dispersal in 1962.

Beginning in January 1926, Walhalla held the back cover ad of the Bulletin until the mid-thirties. The December 1927 ad shows their success at various shows including their first Grand Champion bull, Maiden’s Vronicka’s College Boy. This began a series of 8 Grand Champion bulls from 1927 to 1950 as either Owner or Breeder. They also garnered Grand Champion cows in 1928, 1931, 1935 and 1939.

Also reported in December 1927 Bulletin, was the announcement of the cow Minnie W 11024, record breaking Fat record in the Mature Farmer’s Class of 639 pounds. In the January and November issues of the Bulletin in 1928 Walhalla ran 10-page ads.

In December 1928, it was reported that Walhalla had again bought the best cows as they purchased Cyrene L. 12308 owned by Orbec Sherry of Wisconsin and bred by A. Lilly of Minnesota and Cinnamon’s Maiden from N.C. Schmid of Wisconsin. Cyrene L. had recently become a world record cow in the 10 months Farmer’s class with 701 pounds of fat. Cinnamon’s Maiden was grand champion cow at the National Dairy Show in 1925 and is the dam of Maiden’s Vronika College Boy, grand champion bull in 1927 and 1928. The April 1930 Bulletin back cover shows these 4 famous animals, June’s College Girl, Swiss Valley Girl 10th, Silver Belle, and Maiden’s Vronika ‘s College Boy.

In September 1930, the Walhalla herd was moved to a new farm near Rexford, NY. It consisted of 150 acres. The main barn was 131 feet long, with twin silos. At the end of the barn was a small room for milking 4 cows at a time, a milking parlor. The dedication program shows Mr. Zoller, Ira Inman, and Lewis Hull.

Zoller felt that new Brown Swiss blood needed to be brought to America, so in the summer of 1931, he imported two bulls, the second importation that year and the first animals since 1906. They were Imported Jack of Walhalla from Switzerland born in 1927 and Blankus of Walhalla from Mexico, born in 1930, whose sire and dam were imported from Switzerland.

Tragedy strikes on September 3, 1932, when Mr. Zoller was attacked by one of his bulls and died later that day. Zoller was 54 years of age. At the time of his death, he owned such famous producers as June’s College Girl, Swiss Valley Girl 10th, Swiss Girl F.C. and others. Following his death, his wife, Jessie T. Zoller became owner and continued to operate the farm along with Manager Harold Magnussen until the herds dispersal in 1962. In the over 60-year history of Walhalla, Mrs. Zoller had the longest term (30 years) as owner and operator.

The Walhalla Farms Dispersal was held on Saturday, May 12, 1962, at Rexford, NY. The sale averaged $422 on 140 head. The largest buyer was Derrick Webb of Shelburne Farm, Vermont, purchasing 23 head. Harold Magnussen was then associated with Shelburne Farm. Top selling animal was Walhalla Holly Della purchased by Meythaler-Cold Springs Farm of Monroe, WI for over $1000. The sale was managed by

This year’s Active Master Breeder is truly a family and multigenerational affair, having been in the Brown Swiss business for over 105 years. This year we are recognizing the La Rainbow Farm, including Fred, Silas, Dennis, and Brian Lammers, of New Knoxville, Ohio.

Fred Lammers started the herd with the purchase of a bull and a few cows in 1918, 105 years ago. Many area farmers bought Fred’s bulls to breed their cows and heifers in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Fred’s son, Silas, began showing his Brown Swiss at the county fair in the 20’s and at the Ohio State Fair in 1939. They also started official DHI testing in 1937.

The original farm was called the Rainbow Stock Farm, F.W. Lammers. When they went to register their prefix, they found Rainbow was already used. So, they added “LA” for Lammers to the front and La Rainbow was born in 1943.

The third generation, Dennis, continued with the La Rainbow show string and was best known for breeding the Butterfly cow family. Here is Dennis with the 1998 Futurity winner, La Rainbow Ela Mandy.

Today, Brian, the next generation, provides the leadership for La Rainbow. Brian won the National Youth Achievement award in 1989. He then graduated with a Ph.D. in Animal Science from Penn State in 1998. Brian has now served 2 terms on the National Board of Directors and has been chair of the National Genetics committee for 5 years.

This Master Breeder award indicates that the nominees should have developed cow families that have impacted the breed. Well, La Rainbow has certainly filled that requirement. So, let’s look at some of those cow families.

The first impactful animal was back in 1955, when La Rainbow Ginger, became the first of 8 La Rainbow animals to become the

All-American Futurity winner at the Ohio State Fair. Ginger also was the Grand Champion Female there that year for Silas and Dennis. Ginger sold later that fall in the Diamond Jubilee sale for $7200, was the second high selling female and purchased by Judd’s Bridge farm.

One of the most notable cow families is that of La Rainbow Butterfly ET, born in 1990. Butterfly is classified 3E-93 with a 93 mammary system. She has won the 4- and 5-year-old classes at the Ohio state fair, and in 1996 was first Aged Cow as well as Reserve Grand Champion. She has 2 natural and 38 ET offspring. Her daughters were competitive in the show ring. She has 7 daughters that have scored Excellent.

Her daughter, La Rainbow Fancy Girl was sold in the National sale and bought by Grant & Katie DeBruin and Larry Paaske. Fancy Girl is classified 2E94, became Reserve Sr. Champion at WDE and Reserve All American Aged Cow in 2003 and was the National Cow For All Seasons in 2004. Her 6/01 365-day record was 42,460 milk, 1668 fat and 1390 protein.

Another daughter, La Rainbow Party Girl was the 2000 All American Swiss Futurity winner at the Ohio State Fair. She is classified 2E91.

Butterfly’s daughter, La Rainbow Country Girl was sold in the National Sale to Mike Moyer. Her Starbuck daughter is Pot Luck SB Butterfly ET. This granddaughter hit the top in 2007 when she was Grand Champion at the Eastern National show, Reserve Grand at the Central National and All-American Aged Cow that year. SB Butterfly is scored 3E-94 with a E95 mammary system. She has 35 offspring.

In 2010 La Rainbow began doing IVF work. Brian bought Pot Luck SB Butterfly in the 2010 Elite Dairy Sale. He then sold one of her daughters, La Rainbow Bfly Sunkist ETV in the Midwest Revue sale to Richard Sparrow. Sunkist is scored 4E-94 with a 94 mammary. In 2019 Sunkist became a double winner as she was the National Total Performance Winner as well as the National Cow For All Seasons Winner.

The Butterfly family has two popular bulls, La Rainbow Bfly Dynamite and La Rainbow Bfly Skyhigh. For two years Dynamite was the top type bull of the breed. Now I would say that is a family that has impacted the Brown Swiss breed.

But there are other La Rainbow families we need to mention. The first is the Sweet Family beginning with La Rainbow Sweet Margarita. She is scored 2E-92 and a Superior Brood Cow. Her top record as a 5-yearold was over 40,000 pounds of milk. This family has many individuals with high genetic merits for type, milk, and type traits. Margarita is the great granddaughter of the first Sweet La Rainbow named animal, La Rainbow Sweet Cherish born in 1981. The Sweet family has produced 3 Futurity winners over the past 10 years. They are La Rainbow Sweet Milan ET in 2013, La Rainbow Sweet Silky ET in 2020 and La Rainbow Sweet Cheerios in 2022. Cheerios dam, La Rainbow Sweet Cheers ET was the first place 4-year-old at the Ohio State Fair last year. Cheerio’s daughter, La Rainbow Sweet Cheerful ETV was the 2nd high-selling animal in the World Premier Sale last year at $20,500. She is the 6th generation animal from Margarita.

Of the cows with a La Rainbow prefix, La Rainbow Sweet Silk is currently having the largest influence on the genetic pool of the breed. Silk has 5 daughters classified Excellent or nominated for All American. She has had 6 sons enter the AI program. For two years, Silk’s son, La Rainbow Sweet Silver was the top PPR bull. From the April Sire Summary, the top 6 bulls for PTAT (type) are all from the Sweet family. In total 10 of the top 20 PTAT bulls are from this family. So, if you are looking for type, you know where to go, look for a La Rainbow Sweet bull.

THE LISTENING EFFECT

We’ve likely all heard this age-old adage. That pledge is guiding the Council of Dairy Cattle Breeding (CDCB) as we work to strengthen our partnership and support to help you as Brown Swiss breeders achieve your genetic vision and goals.

This summer, I traveled across the country attending national breed conventions while many CDCB colleagues presented at the American Dairy Science Association in Ottawa, Ontario. At each convention, we discussed current research, improvements coming to dairy cattle genetics, and the importance of farm data. In my role as CDCB Outreach Specialist, I had another mission in mind. Surrounded by dairy cattle breeders, I made it a priority to listen more than I spoke.

When I did this, I learned incredible insights from breeders. Your Brown Swiss association welcomed me with open arms and displayed a deep desire to continue the breed’s genetic progress. I asked those in attendance at the annual meeting to complete a brief survey to share their thoughts and experiences with CDCB. All breeders can complete the 10-minute survey for a chance to win $100 here https://form.jotform. com/231566188631158 or by scanning the QR code. The results of this survey will help guide CDCB into the future, so I thank you for your time and insight.

During the annual meeting, I also spoke about the Dairy Breed Improvement Collaboration that your association is involved in through CDCB. The collaboration focuses on the breeds of Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Milking Shorthorn, and it is best explained through the three key objectives of the project.

Objective #1

Facilitate greater participation in programs that support breed improvement – identification, registration, type classification, dairy herd improvement (DHI), genomic testing, and NAAB cross reference. This objective is designed to increase the reliability of evaluations for these breeds through increased data collection and data flow.

Objective #2

Offer value-driven access to CDCB genomic evaluations for bulls of smaller-population breeds. To accomplish this, CDCB is subsidizing $400 of the $800 AI Service Fee assigned to US-born Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, and Guernsey bulls who are marketed using their genomic evaluation.

Objective #3

Provide technical support in genetic improvement strategies through the development of a full-time outreach position at CDCB.

In support of the Dairy Breed Improvement Collaboration, all breed associations involved (U.S. Ayrshire Breeders’ Association, National Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders’ Association, American Guernsey Association, and American Milking Shorthorn Society) have formally agreed to adopt the following practices:

1 AI bulls must be genotyped to be registered by the association.

2 Progeny of AI bulls can only be registered if the sire enrolls in the NAAB cross reference program.

3 AI bull’s dam and sire must be registered.

While this season of breed conventions has been an incredible asset in establishing healthy feedback loops between dairy producers and the genetic evaluation system cared for by CDCB, our work is not done. The next step is to take this “informal” data gathered at your convention and combine it with survey data you provide so that CDCB can better serve you, your breed, and the dairy community.

I look forward to what we can accomplish together through the Dairy Breed Improvement Collaboration and beyond!

Frederick, MD. — The Mid Atlantic Brown Swiss Invitational was held June 24th in Frederick, MD.

This year’s Youth Show was dedicated to the Memory of Maddie Rose Johnson of Cochranton, PA, who was lost in a car accident at the end of 2022. The Showmanship contest and awards, as well as the Blue T-shirts that all the youth wore during the show, were graciously sponsored by the Maddie Johnson Memorial Fund and The Deeter Family. A special Thank You to Michelle Morian for designing the back of these shirts.

Maddie and her family have been exhibiting at this show for several years and are great supporters of the show and the breed. “This was one of Maddie’s favorite shows to exhibit at and she especially loved the showmanship contest,” said Maddie’s mother, Holly Deeter Johnson. RESPONSIBILITIES

For State Bell Ringer contests, each state association should establish a deadline for entries. State entries should be sent to an officer or committee chairman of the state association.

The state association is responsible for appointing a special committee to select the State Bell Ringer and Reserve State Bell Ringer in each class as soon as possible after the shows are completed and the pictures are available. State Bell Ringer certificates will only be furnished for those animals for which an entry (i.e. picture) was sent to the National Office and which met all qualification requirements. Juniors living in states that do not hold state contests should send their entries directly to the national office.

JUDGING AND AWARDS

The State Bell Ringers and the Reserve State Bell Ringers will be recognized in the January issue of the Brown Swiss Bulletin. Each state is responsible for contacting the Bulletin if they want their state winners published.

Owners of the State and Reserve Bell Ringers will be awarded certificates by the corresponding State Brown Swiss Association.

The National Junior Bell Ringer and a Reserve winner will be selected in each class. An Honorable Mention can be awarded in a class at the judges’ discretion. Winners will be chosen by a committee of three judges from the National Approved Judges List. Entries will be judged on pictures and Junior Show placings. Merger Approved,

Select Sires Member Cooperative Formed

August 2, 2023 – The boards of directors of All West/Select Sires, COBA/Select Sires, Select Sires MidAmerica, and Minnesota/ Select Sires have voted unanimously to merge as one cooperative representing the Select Sires federation in 25 U.S. states and the country of Mexico. “As a supporter of cooperatives, my goal was to help create something that would allow us to always remain a member-owned cooperative. We would be nothing without our members,” said Brett Gibbons, President of Select Sires MidAmerica. “This merger allows us to do just that, and from the beginning it was evident that all of us wanted the same thing. This process was successful because of the unity shared amongst co-ops and more importantly, the general managers.” The new cooperative, Select Sires Member Cooperative (SSMC), will begin as of October 1, 2023.

After significant evaluation of the best business environment to incorporate the new cooperative, the decision was made for the headquarters office to be in Columbus, Ohio. The office in Logan, Utah, will serve as a joint operational headquarters. All other present locations will remain operational at this time.

Chris Sigurdson, current General Manager of COBA/Select Sires and Minnesota/Select Sires, has been selected as the first Chief

Executive Officer of Select Sires Member Cooperative.

Farmer-owners can expect to continue receiving industry-leading genetics and quality service from the passionate team who serves them. On October 1, Select Sires Member Cooperative will consist of over 300 employees serving over 10,000 valued cooperative members. Among the many benefits of merging as one, Select Sires Member Cooperative will remain a farmer-owned-andcontrolled cooperative led by fellow producers.

“I’m extremely excited about the future and the vision of the four cooperatives working together as one. It has been a lot of hard work, but all parties involved have worked so well together and created an awesome new entity,” said Jim Barthel, Minnesota/ Select Sires President. “I am looking forward to the success of Select Sires Member Cooperative for its members and employees alike.” The governance structure of Select Sires Member Cooperative has already been carefully determined in detail. The board members and employees of these four cooperatives are now working together diligently to create the business structure of this new cooperative. Together, Select Sires Member Cooperative will serve member-owners as one cooperative, For The Members: By The Members.

Brent Moyer Joins Brown Swiss Board of Directors

Brent Moyer, Caro, MI, has been appointed to the National Brown Swiss Board of Directors for District IV to fulfill the term of Jason Albert, Keyesport, IL, who passed away in April. This is a brief biography supplied by Brent.

“I am writing this brief description of myself to better explain who I am. I am a dairy farmer in Caro, Michigan. Greenpoint Dairy, LLC was formed 5 years ago as a partnership between Goma Dairy, and Paramount Enterprises Dairy. We are currently milking around 5,900 mostly Holstein cows, with a few Brown Swiss and Jerseys mixed in. Our mature cow herd contains about 6,400 cows. We also raise all of our young stock and that herd totals about 5,000 head from bottle babies to heifers ready to calve.

“I have a strong passion for the registered cow. I served on the Michigan Jersey Cattle Club board for 10 years and served the board as president and vice president. I also served on the Michigan Holstein Association board for eleven years, including the offices of president and vice president. I was instrumental in taking our state magazine from a Holstein magazine to an all-breed magazine called the Michigan Dairy Cattle News.

“My involvement in the [Brown] Swiss breed came from when my oldest child said he wanted a Swiss. I was always fond of Random Luck KB Phoebe E93, and she happened to have a young daughter selling in a sale. By the end of the week, we owned “Last Phoebe.” That is where my love affair with Brown Swiss started.

“I love the show world, but I also know firsthand that home comes first. Dairy farms are a business and they need to be run as such.

“I feel the Brown Swiss cow can hold a place in the ever-evolving industry, other than in just the show ring. She walks on an almost perfect set of feet and legs. She carries the needed strength to withstand the modern-day environment. They have well-attached udders, with proper management, that can produce as much milk and components as any black and white cow”.

Brent is a member of the Brown Swiss Advantage program. He recently purchased five Brown Swiss cows from the Double W sale to add to the expanding herd. We welcome Brent to the National Board of Directors and appreciate his willingness to serve the Association membership in District IV.

Introduction

Last month we listed the Breed Champions of ROP Records milked 3x or 4x during the period of 1912 to 1966 when the ROP program was discontinued. In 1940, Volumne 1 of the Production Book was published containing all the records accepted since the ROP program was established in 1911. Also in 1940, breed champions for cows milked twice a day (2x), was established. Listed below are the Breed Champions milked 2x beginning in 1940. In 1966 all Honor Rolls and breed champions were combined regardless of times milked. Breed Champions remain until another cow breakes her record for milk and/or fat. Protein Champions were added in 1980 and will be presented in a seperate list.

Greetings From Natalie Roe

Hello everyone, my name is Natalie Roe, and I am so excited to be the 2023-2024 National Brown Swiss Youth Ambassador.

A little bit about myself, I am currently a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a double major in Dairy Science and Life Science Communications. I am from Monticello, Wisconsin, where my parents, Dan and Sally Roe, my brothers, Nick and Alex, and I farm. We own and operate a cash crop farm, Roe Farms Partnership and a commercial grain elevator, Pleasant Grain LLC.

I got my interest in Brown Swiss Cattle from 4-H, starting with a 4-H project calf from Voegeli Farms Inc., when I was young. From there, my interest blossomed, and my brothers and I started our herd, TopLine Swiss. We show these heifers across the nation. I am active within the Wisconsin Brown Swiss Juniors Association, as well as many other dairy activities in my county and at college. Some of the activities I enjoy at UW-Madison are the Association of Women in Agriculture, Badger Dairy Club, and the UW-Madison Judging Team.

My involvement in dairy all led up to the 2023 National Brown Swiss Convention in Fresno, California, where I was selected for

Junior Bred & Owned Excellent Cows

the Ambassador position. It was a whirlwind of a week, including excursions to the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, Bar 20 Dairy Farms, and the juniors took a trip to the Fresno Chaffee Zoo. We were able to do behind the scenes tours, pet a tortoise, and hand feed the giraffes! The tours were followed by the annual Junior Awards Banquet and Fun Auction, which raised nearly $6,000 for our juniors! The convention concluded the next day with the annual meeting, awards luncheon, and the National Sale. This was all possible thanks to Fresno State and the California Brown Swiss Association.

I am excited to spend this coming year advocating for the big brown cow, meet more fellow enthusiasts, and get more juniors involved with the breed. One thing I am looking forward to accomplishing in the coming year is to make our juniors more involved at the national level. Since the National Convention will be hosted by my home state next year, I am hoping to create events that lead to a great junior turnout! I am looking forward to a great year!

Greetings From Adele Biasini

Hi everyone! My name is Adele Biasini and I am the 2023-2024 National Brown Swiss Association Alternate Ambassador. I am from Morrisville, Vermont, where I live on a small dairy farm of registered Brown Swiss and Holsteins with my family. My family also owns and operates Mt. Mansfield Creamery where we make raw milk artisanal cheeses with the high-quality milk produced from our herd. Additionally, I’ve grown up showing Brown Swiss with my family under the Silver Top Swiss prefix. I am honored to be able to represent the breed as an ambassador for my last year being a junior.

This year, I am eager to meet and get to know as many youth and Brown Swiss enthusiasts as possible. My goal in this role is to attend many, if not all, of the National Brown Swiss shows this year. However, I am especially excited to travel to the Heart of America Southwest National Brown Swiss Show in Oklahoma for my first time! As we start to get into the show season, I would like to provide the opportunity for Brown Swiss swag to be purchased so you can represent the breed in fashion. Be on the lookout for this apparel in the coming months! I’m looking forward to a happy and successful year for everybody!

Paul Steven Weber

January 9, 1955 - May 2, 2023

Paul Steven Weber passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, in his home surrounded by his family and loved ones at the age of 68. He was born on January 9, 1955, to parents Paul & Nanette Weber in McMinnville, Oregon. Paul graduated from West Linn High School with the class of 1973, and went on to graduate in 1978 from Cal Poly State University with a bachelor’s degree in Dairy Science. On June 21, 1975, Paul married JoAnne Bell and they have been married for 47 years.

In 2000, Paul moved the entire Idyl Wild Farm dairy operation cows and all from West Linn, Oregon, to Loudonville, Ohio. Paul was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, employer, and friend. He will be remembered for his kindness, humility, and generosity. He was a farmer’s farmer. He was most content

and happy in a pair of boots, riding a tractor, walking through the barns, laughing with his wife, and being with dear friends, family, and neighbors. His impact on the lives of others is his legacy. And he will be forever and deeply missed.

Paul served as National Director of District 9 of the Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders’ Association of the USA from1996 to 2001.

He is survived by his wife JoAnne Weber; daughter Becky and Andy Andreas (Hannah and Savannah), son Jacob and Lauren Weber (Caleb, Luke, and Leah), nephew Sebastian and Taylor Weber (Whitney, Porter, and Colin), and nephew Christoph and Rachel Weber (Benjamin), his siblings David Weber, Gilbert Weber, Mark Weber, and Barbara Smith.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson Micah Weber.

To share a memory or condolence to the family, go to SnyderFuneralHomes.com/obituaries/Paul-StevenWeber?obId=27858757.

In Memory of Paul S. Weber

born: January 9, 1955 a died: May 2, 2023

Paul Weber was a leader in the dairy industry and breeder of many outstanding Brown Swiss cows, including Idyl Wild Improver Jinx. He was a man of great faith and loved God and his family above all else. Most of all he was honest, innovative, kind, and generous. He was greatly loved and will be forever missed by his family, neighbors, and friends, especially the entire crew at Idyl Wild Farm.
