A FORCE for

FINANCIAL CHANGE

Financial and life coach Lisa Chastain helps young women make money simple and create rich, full lives.

L

isa Chastain is on a mission to change the way millennial women relate to money. “Sixty-one percent of women say they would rather talk about death than money,” says Chastain, a No. 1 best-selling author, entrepreneur, and financial industry disrupter. “In my world, we talk about money all the time; it’s some of the most valuable work we do. We want to keep money simple so more women will have the courage to have open, honest conversations about their feelings toward money and how they can grow financially.” An unshakable optimist who believes money management should be simple (and even fun), Chastain offers down-to-earth life coaching with a heavy emphasis on financial wellness through her full-time practice, Millennial Consulting LLC. “Financial coaching is life coaching and vice versa, because life is an interconnected web of investments in time, money, and people,” explains Chastain, who is trained as a financial advisor and life coach and has been working with millennials for nearly 20 years. “Women need to know what they make, spend, and keep every month, and they also need to know the ‘why’ behind those decisions. I help them clarify their ‘whys,’ know their goals, and put simple systems in place to reduce stress and increase their enjoyment of life.” Chastain is no stranger to financial stress. In 2016, she found herself in deep debt and facing the failures of her marriage and business. “I felt like I was free falling with no way out,” she recalls. “My passion for this work grew out of my personal struggle. I turned my life around with the right tools, systems, and support, and now I empower other women to do the same.”

INVEST IN YOURSELF

In addition to her No. 1 bestselling book, Girl, Get Your $hit Together! #adulting YOUR way, which teaches millennials how to own their money, live purposefully, and love their lives, Chastain offers women several ways to invest in personal growth, including private and group coaching sessions, online training, and signature live events like “Girl, Get Your $hit Together Bootcamp” in Las Vegas. After attending this one-day event designed to create a new money mindset, Bootcamp attendees walk away with a clear vision, a rock-solid plan, and Chastain’s powerful budgeting tools. And for women who want to level up in life and surround themselves with a like-minded sisterhood, Chastain offers her yearlong training program, The Academy, which helps independent, successful women take control of their money and take their lives to the next level. “Women do not have to do this alone,” says Chastain. “With my help and our #tribe, women can stop stressing and start living rich, full lives.”

5 SIMPLE MONEY TIPS 1. SLOW DOWN: Have the courage to take a deep breath and

face the facts of what you make, spend, and keep in a month. 2. LOOK AT YOUR TIME: How you’re spending your time will tell

you a lot about where you’re spending your money. 3. EVALUATE RELATIONSHIPS: Who in your life is helping or

hindering your progress toward goals? 4. SEPARATE ACCOUNTS: Create a spending account to regain

control over your finances fast. 5. ASK FOR HELP: Look for an advisor who knows money and is

a good personality fit.

HOPE MEANS NEVADA Hope Means Nevada Provides a Resource for Teens Struggling With Mental Health

Suicide is the second-leading cause of death for youths and adults ages 10-34 in Nevada in 2020, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. One local organization, Hope Means Nevada, is helping to combat mental health challenges in Southern Nevada. The organization, which launched in April 2020 amid the COVID-19

pandemic, was founded to raise awareness and increase prevention efforts for youth suicide. Julie Murray, co-chair, and co-founder of Hope Means Nevada, said the group started as a resource for people suffering from depression and anxiety during the pandemic. She said it was on track to be established, but the pandemic accelerated the program’s launch.

9

RAISING HOPE

On its website, it said the national pandemic “supercharged our mission and our hope to help all. During this time, our focus is on the mental health of you, your family, and those you love.” The organization uses the power of celebrity and professional-athlete influencers to promote the message of mental wellness. It also encourages people, teens particularly, to evangelize its Ask Five Initiative, which encourages teens to check in with friends due to the fact that around one in five people is struggling with anxiety or depression.

“When COVID hit, and mental health became so challenging, we launched almost overnight,” she said. “There was a void before, and we feel like the pandemic gave us all enough gusto to come together and address it. We put all of our energy and time into mental wellness because of how great the need was.”

THE MISSION Hope Means Nevada is a campaign organized by Nevada Medical Center, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The mission of Hope Means Nevada is to provide access to mental health resources and a community of hope.

“Often, speaking about mental h e a l t h i s t a b o o ,” Murray said. “ Yo u d o n ’ t w a n t t o s a y, ‘ I ’ m n o t O K .’ ”

10

GET I N V O LV E D Teens and adults can get involved with the organization. Murray said teen volunteers meet once a week virtually and said they have been the group’s most active volunteers. During their weekly meetings, they have special guests, such as Cynthia Germanotta, president of the Born This Way Foundation, which she co-founded with her daughter, Lady Gaga, and Henderson Mayor Debra March. “It’s the teens who I love most because they are the ones we’re doing this for, to help them get through this very difficult time,” she said. “They’re feeling so much anxiety and depression that they feel like being active and being a part of the solution ... this helps them, so they don’t get lost in depression and anxiety.” Recently, they painted river rocks with inspirational sayings for the Hope Rocks Event and placed them along walking paths at parks around town. “One of my favorite things about Las Vegas is that can-do spirit … when we see something that needs to be done, we do it with excellence,” Murray said. “Our community is great, and there are so many people that might be struggling, but then there’s this whole group of people that are doing OK, who are helping.”

The organization is always in need of volunteers, and Murray said she encourages teens to join. Hope Means Nevada also

A Chef’s Tale LONGTIME VEGAS CHEF NICK RAYMOND TALKS ABOUT HIS CULINARY PHILOSOPHY

Chef Nick Raymond believes that fast food doesn’t have to be unhealthy. In fact, at his restaurant, Sharky’s, busy foodies can find healthy Mexican cuisine made with fresh, organic ingredients. “It makes you feel good about it when you eat it,” he said. “It’s made fresh every day, every hour.” Raymond said his career throughout the front of the house and back of the house for large themed restaurants to mom-andpops has been a great journey.

EAT

When asked about his “secret sauce,” of success, he said, “Sauce is the love of life and the love of food. If you care about something so much, everyone will taste it.”

FOR THE LOVE OF FOOD

Sharky’s Woodfired Mexican Grill opened in Sherman Oaks, California in 1992, and has locations across California and Nevada. According to the restaurant’s website , “Founder Steve Paperno had a vision to combine the variety of flavors he experienced traveling through Mexico with innovative recipes and a passion for healthy living.” The restaurant offers all-natural chicken, grass-fed beef, wildcaught fish, GMO-free corn, RBGH-free cheese and sour cream, local organic salad greens and organic tofu, yams, rice, and beans. Raymond said everything is made fresh daily from scratch. His goal is to make healthy food convenient and affordable.

Think power bowls with veggies and grilled chicken, fresh homemade salsas, grilled fish or shrimp burritos, roasted cauliflower and mushroom tacos, power plates featuring protein and veggie combos, avocado quinoa salad, children’s dishes, and classic favorites like chicken enchiladas. The restaurant also offers build-your-own meal kits such as the fajita taco fiesta for four, build-your-own nachos kit, a take-and-bake enchilada kit, and family meals like a taco or burrito box and family meals for two or four. “If you want clean living and you want something to believe that you’re eating healthy, you should come to Sharky’s. It’s all about flavor profiling,” the chef said. “It’s a mixture of a lot of different flavors and that’s what makes great chefs and makes them unique, because that’s what they give you.”

17

LOVE FOR LAS VEGAS Raymond grew up with a close-knit family and is committed to giving back to the Las Vegas community that supported him and his restaurants through hard times. He said, when it comes to restaurants, it’s not just about him, it’s about relationships. “I’m always happy to hear when someone opens their own place and they’re successful. That’s what’s great about Las Vegas and the community,” he said. “We stick together and we help each other. He believes in supporting children’s causes and in mentoring future chefs. He said it’s more important than ever to give back by teaching others. “Our children are the future,” he said. “We need to focus on the children, and that will fix the future.”

DY N A M I C DUO Amanda Mayock and Mackenzie Miles are two of the powerhouse women behind Las Vegas Raiders General Manager Mike Mayock as his wife and step-daughter, respectively. When the team moved from Oakland to Las Vegas in early 2020, it meant a relocation and big changes for Amanda Mayock and Mackenzie Miles. “Mackenzie is not only my daughter, she’s my best friend,” Mayock said. “We both love road trips and have travelled hundreds of thousands of miles together, whether it was college visits or moving back and forth with the Raiders and it has always been the best time.

We stop in the craziest places and have our own little weird adventures whether it’s traversing canyons in Virginia or walking through the Gateway District in Cleveland or eating our way through Asheville. We have the same sense of humor and we like to do the same things so it’s very easy to spend time together.” “I am a strong advocate for mental wellness. Growing up, I had family members who suffered from both depression and anxiety,” Mayock said. “When I was a teenager, I had a close friend try to commit suicide. That night, I stayed with her at the hospital and spent many hours talking to her and trying to understand why she swallowed all the pills and why I had no idea she felt so helpless. 100% of people are affected by mental illness at some point whether it is themselves, a family member, a friend, or a co-worker. I believe conversations about mental health should be normalized and encouraged.”

21

LAS VEGAS RAIDERS GM’S FA M I LY U S E S P L AT F O R M TO R A I S E AWA R E N E S S O F M E N TA L H E A LT H Mayock grew up in a family where volunteering and helping others was important. Formerly, she worked as a therapist for students at Eastern University in Pennsylvania and hopes to use her training and experience to help Las Vegans. “After leaving my position at the university, I looked for a way to use my skills to help the Las Vegas community and was directed to Hope Means Nevada through a friend,” Mayock said. “Hope Means Nevada was formed to raise awareness around mental health and teen suicide, which I am obviously very passionate about. Their mission is to help provide resources and enable access to mental health and create a community of Hope. We are still in the growing phase, but have already made an impact and hope to spread our message through the Las Vegas community and throughout Nevada.”

22

Like Mother, Like Daughter A M A N DA M AYO C K & M AC K E N Z I E M I L E S G I V E B AC K & P R OV I D E H O P E F O R T E E N S Miles said her mom has been a great influence in teaching her how to be an empathetic person. “My mother always taught me to treat others the way you would like to be treated,” Miles said. “Her kindness is what I love most about her. She goes out of her way to make others feel heard and loved. My friends literally come over to hang out with her. She’s everyone’s therapist!” Julie Murray, the Co-Chair/Co-Founder of Hope Means Nevada, said that Mayock’s input at the organization has been phenomenal: “She’s a rockstar volunteer and is helping in so many ways.” Mayock and Miles are also involved with the Las Vegas Raiders Family Association, which joined Hope Means Nevada on September 23 to package 675 Hope Means Nevada face masks for educators across Nevada. Miles said the goal of the initiative is to “have our educators wear masks and allow their students to feel comfortable discussing their mental health with them. As we all know, suicide is the leading cause of death for teens in Nevada. We urge you to start a conversation with our youth about how they’re really feeling.” She went on to say that she cares a great deal about mental health awareness. “We all know someone who is struggling or we ourselves may struggle, and that’s OK,” Miles said. “It’s OK not to be OK. I want teens to know that there is hope and that there is always someone to reach out to and wants to help. You’re never alone.” Living Large Las Vegas sat down with the mother/daughter duo to discuss their thoughts on the community of Las Vegas and their plans for the future.

Q: What are you most excited about living in Las Vegas? A: The people in Las Vegas are so nice. I don’t know if it’s because it’s a hospitality town or if it’s because it seems like a lot of people here are from somewhere else or because your weather is just amazing, but the people here really are super nice and friendly. Looking forward, we are super excited about eventually having a true Las Vegas experience and being able to visit the Strip, see a show, eat a wonderful dinner and enjoy all of what Vegas is known for. Q: Do you have any Las Vegas experiences that are on your bucket list to complete in the next 12 months? A: There are so many things we would love to do in Vegas. The No. 1 thing is definitely to go to a Raiders game! I have also heard so much about the great dining in Vegas, but we have not been out to dinner downtown since moving here because of Covid. Safety has to be the priority right now.

23

Q: What are some of your favorite activities to do as a whole family? A: Unfortunately, our family is very spread out. Leigh Mayock is a talent producer for Fox Sports Radio in Los Angeles, Michael Mayock is the Head of the Sales Division at Formotiv, a start-up tech company based in Philadelphia. Jack Miles is currently playing junior hockey in Canada. Mackenzie is the only one currently at home, and when we have free time, we are usually taking the dog for a hike if it’s not too hot. Q: Does your family have any special holiday traditions? What does a typical holiday look like in your household? A: Since there are no days off in football, Mike will be working throughout the holidays. Last year, he was even in the facility on Christmas day. As far as the kids go, Mackenzie and Jack will be in Ottawa, Canada, with their dad’s side of the family for Christmas, but hopefully, Michael and Leigh will come and visit us here in Las Vegas for the holidays. I hear that you have even gotten some snow in the winter here. I couldn’t imagine a white Christmas in Las Vegas. But hey, it’s 2020 — anything can happen. Q: What are you planning to do to get involved in the Las Vegas community? A: We are already very active with Hope Means Nevada, an awareness campaign for teen mental health in Nevada. Sadly, Nevada has the highest rate of teen suicide in the nation, and we’re working to reverse that trajectory by bringing awareness to teen’s struggles and funding for mental health resources. The Rising Hope Festival was on November 7. We were excited to share inspirational speakers, thoughtful experts, powerful music, art, and entertainment. We believe in the power of hope.

THE FAMILY ALL IN

THIS ENERGETIC FAMILY OF SIX OPENS UP TO LIVING LARGE LAS VEGAS

Their oldest son, Shane, 14, is the kind, mellow, peace-keeper with a huge heart in the family. He loves video games, science, and math. He enjoys swimming, hanging with his family and friends, and learning about how the world works. Next up is Kyle, 12. He is the funny, witty, smarty pants in the family. He also loves video games, science, and math. He enjoys hanging with his friends and loves animals and sweets, just like his mama.

ON PHOTO

THE LAST REMNANTS TURGELIAN BREED Ryan and Leslie Sullivan’s meet-cute is so classic that you might mistake it for the beginning of a Hallmark movie. Both Ryan and Leslie graduated from UNLV but didn’t know each other. Then, the two finally meet in 2000 at Magoo’s when Leslie’s best friend was being set up on a blind date with Ryan by Ryan’s best friend. Leslie tagged along if it didn’t work out—and the rest, as they say, is history. The two met, fell in love and 20 years later have a beautiful family together, including four sons and a fur-child.

There’s Ryan, the dad, who loves anything outdoors—fishing, hiking, camping, boating, hunting—you name it. Nature is his favorite place to find peace. He is also a great cook and likes baking even though he doesn’t eat sweets or carbs. Leslie loves being with friends and is energized by being around people. She enjoys photography, shopping, cooking, and being by the water. When she’s not at the beach, pool, or lake, you can find her riding roller coasters.

The biggest helper in the family is Max, 9. He loves drawing, music, and art and is learning to play the piano. He enjoys playing Minecraft with his friends and cuddling with his mom. The youngest child in the Sullivan family is Luke, 5. He’s charming and energetic, and his smile lights up the room. Luke is learning all kinds of new things in Kindergarten this year. He loves playing soccer, watching cooking shows with his dad and discusses his dreams every night. Luke is a solid swimmer and loves being outdoors. Then, there’s Lucy, the Sullivans’ fluffy red Cavapoo. This mild mannered, sweet dog loves going on long walks and barking at the neighbors dog through the back wall. Living Large Las Vegas asked the whole family some questions. Here’s what they had to say:

27

WE LOVE HOW DIVERSE LAS VEGAS IS IN RESTAURANTS, SHOPPING AND THE NETWORK OF PEOPLE WE HAVE MET HERE. WE LOVE THE COMMUNITY WE HAVE CREATED.

Q: What are some of your favorite holiday traditions as a family? A: Each year, we choose a family that may not have Christmas, and we go shopping for that family so that the children will have something to celebrate. On Christmas Eve, we always go to church, eat out for dinner, and open one gift. It’s Family Pj night, and mom usually stays up wrapping presents and listening to Christmas music until Santa arrives. On Christmas day we spend the day together playing with new toys or playing games and then have dinner with our Gigi and Aunt Julie. The boys make Christmas cookies with Gigi, and we follow up the next day celebrating Shane’s birthday with friends and family. Q: What do you love most about living in Las Vegas? A: Surprisingly, the weather. For most of the year we have great weather, sunny sunshine and lots of beautiful blue skies. We love how diverse Las Vegas is in restaurants, shopping and the network of people we have met here. We love the community we have created. We love having a hockey team that we can cheer. Q: Who is the funniest person in the family? A: It’s hard to pick just one! Luke is funny because he is so authentic and says really cute things that are

unexpected.Kyle is the witty one, and Ryan is the sarcastic, on-your-feet funny man. Q: Kids, what do you love most about your mom and dad? Max: Snuggling with mom, and dad is a good cook. Luke: Mom made me born and shows me love. Dad cooks and shows me cooking shows. I also like how they hang out in my bed and help me sleep at night when I am scared. Kyle: My parents are very supportive and help me. Shane: How loving and caring mom is and hanging out and long talks with dad. Q: Parents, what do you love most about your kids?

A: Each one brings something unique to the family. They are all really kind children and look out for each other.
