Seijah Drake, Fashion Editor

1. Krass&Co. One of the biggest challenges that college can pose for a girl is dressing comfortably while still maintaining an essence of dignity and effort in their presentation. If it's a Sunday afternoon and you have no plans, you don't want to waste an outfit or overdress and but also may want to avoid looking like a wreck because we all know that when we look our worst we run into the cute guy that sits in front of us in calculus, the captain of the lacrosse team, and the gorgeous fraternity president. To avoid that travesty, let's all promise ourselves that this school year, we won't leave our rooms without trying! To look both comfortable and classy, we love Krass & Co; a brand of preppy athletic wear that specializes in clothing that is both casual and elegant. It really is impossible to wear these wrong. And with the discount code LASELL you can get 20% off of your purchase! 2. Ashley Monroe. Like all music, country has evolved. Whether it has changed for the better or worse changes depending on who you're asking, but almost any country fan can agree that it is rare to hear of an artist on mainstream country entertainment that reflects the country of an earlier time; the country that many of our parents grew up and raised us on. I love Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line as much as the next girl, but I have a 7

News&Current Events very strong appreciation for classic country and its spirit. I never get tired of the legends, but I love hearing a new voice with an old sound. That's why we love Ashley Monroe. Not only is she a beautiful young lady with an even more beautiful voice, but she is someone that many young women and girls can identify with. Your August won't be complete without at least one drive with your windows down and Ashley Monroe playing from your speakers. 3. The Spirit Jersey. The Spirit Jersey, sported frequently by sorority girls across the nation, has gained popularity throughout the last year or so and continues to do so! As the summer nears its end and the nights get a little cooler, it's usually too hot for a sweatshirt but too chilly to leave the house without something extra to put on. This is where the Spirit Jersey comes in. We love the Spirit Jersey because not only is it the most comfortable shirt you will probably have the pleasure of wearing in your life, and not only does it come in a wide variety of colors, but it's versatile in its uses! They can be dressed down with Krass & Co shorts, a baseball hat and a pair of running shoes, or dressed up with leggings or white pants, riding boots, and a statement necklace. They can also be thoughtful, simple gifts as they are often personalized with town and organization names. 4. Men’s Button Downs. This August, Living Like Audrey has fallen head over heels in love with mens' button downs! Where the design of many women's button downs focuses on accentuating feminine curves, more and more young ladies are discovering that they prefer the fit and look of mens' button downs. Mens' button downs tend to come in more options, and calculate for broad chests, while many women's button downs leave us with annoying, unflattering gaps between the buttons near our breasts. Also, there is much more to choose from in men's button downs because men need button downs, whereas they are an option for women but not a necessity.

News&Current Events

A Look at the News of July by Ashley Reed Each month, News and Current Events Editor Ashley Reed will take us back through a few of the previous month’s top headlines.

All Eyes on Texas

Texas made national news in July with the passage of the infamous fetal pain bill. This piece of legislation requires doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at hospitals no more than thirty miles away, prohibits abortions after twenty weeks, and mandates that abortion clinics adhere to ambulatory surgical requirements. The bill was first introduced in the House in early June and passed. However it was hotly contested in the Senate with an eleven hour filibuster led by Democrat Wendy Davis. The filibuster was successful and a vote was unable to be called before the special legislative session expired at midnight on Tuesday the 25th, mainly due to unruly observers in the Senate gallery. Governor Rick Perry called a second special session, promising pro-life advocates that the bill would be passed. The news of the bill, thought to be one of the most restrictive in the country, drew the public eye to Texas with both pro-choicers and pro-lifers rallying at the Capital. Texas Democrats conceded that a filibuster was not possible for the bill the second time around since it was first on the agenda. Wendy Davis admitted, “we can’t possibly filibuster a bill for a two week period of time.” The bill once again passed in the House and after some hours of debate was passed in the Senate with a vote 19-11. The newly signed law is expected to close thirty-seven out of forty-two abortion clinics in Texas.

Supreme Court Paves Way For Voter I.D.

In early July the U.S. Supreme Court shocked the country by striking down Section Four of the Voting Rights Act. Section four requires states with a history of racial discrimination to obtain “preclearance” from the Department of Justice before changing election oriented laws. This ruling paves the way for state voter identification laws, which have previously been denied to many states, including Texas. The Department of Public Safety has already stated that the agency is crafting an Election 10

News&Current Events Identification Certificate for citizens who do not already have a form of identification. Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has pledged to support and enforce a voter identification law. A voting identification law would require citizens at the voter station to produce a form of identification, including a Texas Driver’s Li, Concealed Handgun License, a passport, or a form of military identification.

Zimmerman Found Not Guilty

After close to seventeen hours deliberation, a Florida jury found George Zimmerman not guilty of the murder of Treyvon Martin, a seventeen year old African American. The case dates back more than a year: on the night of February 26 , 2012, Zimmerman, a Hispanic neighborhood watch volunteer, saw Martin walking and called police to report suspicious behavior. The police dispatcher told Zimmerman a patrol would check up on the matter and not to pursue Martin. However, Zimmerman left his vehicle, at which point a physical altercation occurred. Neighbor Jonathan Good was a witness and said that he saw one man on top of another with the man on bottom crying out for help. Zimmerman claims Martin attacked him, punched him, and slammed his head on the concrete. It was some point after this that Zimmerman shot Martin, who died no more than ten minutes later. The verdict brought about demonstrations with young black males holding signs that read, “Am I Next?” and the social media buzzing over racial discrimination. One hour after his client was declared not guilty, Defense Attorney Mark O’Mara commented to reporters saying, “things would have been different for George Zimmerman if he was black for this reason: he would never have been charged with a crime.”

The Women’s Bean Project by Faith Lierheimer It’s easy to walk right by the renovated firehouse that is home to the Women’s Bean Project and not notice it. The sign is unassuming, and the building itself humble and aged. But behind the doors of the old firehouse is a social enterprise that brings about real change in the lives of Denver women struggling to break the cycle of poverty. The Women’s Bean Project, or The Bean, as it is affectionately known by its employees and supporters, is a transitional employment and job training facility for women struggling to find employment due to felonies on their record. Women who are employed by the Bean spend an average of 6-9 months working in production, undergoing job readiness training, and eventually being sent out to interview for various entry-level positions around town. The various food and jewelry products available from the Women’s Bean Project on location, at any King Soopers in Colorado, or from their website at womensbeanproject.com are all handmade and come with a tag signed by the woman who made the particular product. The personal nature and high quality of each product from the Bean makes it an easy organization to support. But as the women will tell you, it’s not about the beans. The chief message at the Bean is one of self-sufficiency and second chances. The women are treated with dignity when they begin their employment and it is made clear to them that they are earning their payment and job training and not being given a handout. This message of empowerment at the Bean is chiefly what makes it so successful. The Bean has over a 90% success rate in placing the women who go through the program into jobs. The graduates, many of whom I have met personally, will tell you their success is because the Bean encouraged them to remember that their choices in the present matter far more than their mistakes in the past.

What to do in....Houston, Texas by Sophie Cook The Museum District On Thursdays, most museums in Houston are free. Personal favorites of mine are the Museum of Fine Art, The Children’s Museum, The Health Museum, and The Museum of Natural Science. Wild West (and other country dance clubs) Put on your boots and get ready to scoot and boogie! Dance the night away with charming cowboys in H-Town. On Sunday afternoons from 4:30-6 they offer dance lessons followed by a complimentary fajita dinner, so if you’ve never line danced in your life, take heart. The Chocolate Bar Located in the lovely Rice Village, this candy bar offers a wide array of chocolate everything. On Thursday nights starting at eight, they have a live band and swing dancing. Rice Village A friend’s dad once charmingly referred to the area adjacent to Rice University’s campus as “Hipsterville”. Home to both Urban Outfitters and a plethora of vintage resale shops, it’s a great place to spend an afternoon shopping and eating. At night, it turns into a great club scene with lots of live music. Discovery Green Park Located in Downtown Houston, you can kayak on the lake, take a yoga class on the shore, picnic in the grass, ride your bike on the trails, enjoy a free concert, or hone your writing skills at a workshop. Minute Maid Park Home of the Lastros-oops, I meant Astros. However, the Killer Bees losing streak does have perks-due to low attendance, tickets in the upper deck run only about $7, and you are allowed to bring your own snacks and water bottles into the park. Miller Outdoor Theater Hermann Parks shining attraction offers free movies, concerts from the Houston Symphony and others, and Shakespeare in the park. Check their online calendar to find out exactly what they have in store, but it is never a disappointment.

Cool Drinks for Summer by Yzabelle Onate While it gets warmer, sometimes it’s hard to find an ice-cold refreshing drink other than water. There are times when you want something refreshing yet unique; this is especially true when hosting a party-whether it be big or small. Here are various recipes for light, refreshing drinks that can be served at a party or enjoyed under the shade.

Blood Orange Lemonade

I first discovered this drink after eating at a Vietnamese restaurant in Chelsea Market here in New York. I fell in love and decided to try and make it at home. You’ll Need: - Juice of 2 blood oranges - Juice of half a lemon - 1/3 cup of club soda - Simple syrup, stevia, or sugar to taste - Fresh mint as a garnish 1. 2. 3. 4.

Combine the juices of the lemon, blood oranges and club soda Pour into a glass with ice Add your sweetener to taste, depending on how sweet you want it Garnish your drink with a sprig of mint

You can increase the amount of ingredients if you’re serving multiple people. Sit back and enjoy!

Lifestyle

Watermelon Slushie

You’ll Need: - 6 cups of frozen watermelon - ½ cup of coconut water - mint or basil to taste (optional) 1. Mix the ingredients in the blender 2. Pour into cold glasses and garnish with mint or basil

I love this drink because it’s so hydrating due to the watermelon and coconut water. Coconut water contains essential electrolytes, which is perfect for the hot weather and even great after a workout.

Iced Limonana

The name may sound a little odd, but it doesn’t carry the same taste. Simply put it’s a mint lemonade slushie. I first discovered the drink at two locations here in NYC, Café Angelique and Aroma Espresso Bar. It’s a delicious drink to make, don’t let the color discourage you! You’ll Need: - 2 cups of ice - 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4 large lemons) - ½ cup spearmint leaves - Sugar or stevia to sweeten 1. Juice the lemons and remove the mint leaves from the stalks. 2. Put into the blender with your choice of sweetener and blend until smooth 3. Garnish with mint The lemons in this drink are great for hydration and detoxification; it tastes great too! All of these drinks are great for summer, feel free to partake in your own concoctions with your favorite fruit!

The Fault in Our Stars by Faith Lierheirmer Hank and John Green are the hosts of one of the most famous internet video series known as the vlogbrothers. I am a recent convert to the fandom surrounding this series. Consequently I took it upon myself to begin reading the collected works of John Green, starting with The Fault in Our Stars (TFiOS). I “And grief, like grew pain, has a way apprehensive of revealing our upon finding out TFiOS was a truest natures.” cancer story. As the daughter of a cancer victim and the friend of several other sufferers, I have yet to read a cancer story that is actually representative of the patient’s journey. Most focus on trite, unrealistic love stories. The Fault in Our Stars was different. What made the novel so compelling was not the star-crossed lovers subplot, though that was endearing, nor was it the scope of the tragedy of two teenagers suffering from terminal cancer. What made the novel so compelling was the contrast in worldviews between the two main characters, Augustus and Hazel. Augustus is a dreamer, obsessed with the metaphorical resonance of everything he does and harbors a desperation to be remembered in some way. Hazel is a stark realist, fully aware of the fleeting nature of life and that any legacy she would leave would last about as long as the latest fashion trend. The stark contrast in the way the couple views the world creates a fascinating relationship dynamic. Hazel and Augustus’s discussions and offbeat view on life become the centerpiece of the novel. Their cancer becomes a motivating factor for them to reveal and deal with their truest natures. Hazel and Augustus refuse to fit any stereotype, and are constantly questioning the world around them. As the book draws to its heartbreaking close, Green draws his readers to a challenging place of contemplation. Whatever platitudes we’ve all heard about pain and its supposed benefits, the one thing certain about it is that “pain demands to be felt.” And grief, like pain, has a tendency of revealing our truest natures. By offering a look at the truest nature of two teenagers who are no strangers to pain, Green challenges his readers to that same introspection, and out of that introspection, to a place of greater authenticity. Faith Lierheimer is a regular contributor to Living Like Audrey. Check out the Audrey Tumblr page for further reviews of TFiOS. 18

Why You Shouldn’t Accept Casual Dating by Griffin Gibson “Wait, so you’re saying Maryland has more coastline than California? How is that possible? Maryland is like tiny,” I exclaimed, motioning rapidly with my hands, to the girl standing across from me. “That’s exactly what I said when someone first told me! But Maryland is like all Chesapeake Bay, and so it, and its inlets, cut into Maryland, creating lots of coastline,” she replied, brown eyes sparkling. For the last twenty minutes, in a picturesque mountain cove in North Carolina, -- at the Blue Ridge Assembly -- I had been enjoying a conversation with a short, intelligent young lady with curly brown-blonde hair, a Maryland native. Our burgeoning dialogue had swiftly bounded from one topic to another, ranging from the location and decaying condition of Baltimore, to polarization of American politics, to her Scandinavian and Jewish heritages. She was physically striking, sophisticated, and soon to be enrolled in an illustrious university (the second oldest in the U.S.; there’s a bit of trivia for y’all). Despite her notable qualities, her fantastic claim of Maryland possessing more coastal land than California was incorrect. But in fairness, her assertion was not off by much – only by a mere 300 miles – California and Maryland possessing approximately 3,400 and 3,100 miles of tidal coastline, respectively. Although statistically in err, the young lady, with an authentic personality, similar interests as mine, and being self-possessed, was someone I could envision myself enjoying spending time with, but not in the context of a long term relationship, however, as it was evident that we diverged acutely in a myriad respects. I did not choose this sophisticated young lady for my narrative because I had (or have) a crush on her or because I had the desire to enter into a relationship with her, but instead because she serves as the archetype: the girl with whom I could thoroughly enjoy myself -perhaps even in a short term relationship -- but with whom I could never embark upon a long term relationship with for reasons of fundamental incompatibility, spawned from conflicting beliefs. Ladies, as I am aware, dogmatic opinions regarding aspects of guy/ girl relationships typically engender resistance and reactionary thought, so I will endeavor to refrain from doctrinaire, pretentious, or sweeping declarations. I do not have a beef with dating, just the reasons that sometimes motivate the young people who engage in it. Most prevalent is the culture of casual dating, ordinarily starting anywhere from middle school to high school. Despite the fact that the average American’s age at 19

Lifestyle marriage is twenty-six for women and twenty-eight for men, dating often begins ten or twelve years prior to kneeling at the altar. Whilst the conventional wisdom is that casual dating is a way of life, a matter of course, a facet of self-discovery, and an effort to feel fulfilled, wanted, if one is “Chasing after seeking fulfillment in a relationship with fulfillment in a a young man, then why do young women relationship, which is pursue relationships that do not lead to commenced with the marriage? If these casual dating knowledge of termination, relationships do not bring fulfillment, the is chasing after a mirage.” objective to be fulfilled – an innate human desire – is not accomplished, instead, leaving individuals emptier than before. Chasing after fulfillment in a relationship, which is commenced with the knowledge of termination, is chasing after a mirage. According to psychological research, and congruent with human experience, genuine fulfillment can never spring from selfishness or self-serving behavior. Fulfillment is not obtained from satisfying one’s own wants, which is frequently the objective of casual dating relationships. Fulfillment is derived from satisfying the needs of others because it provides meaning to your own existence. In case you have not realized it, to quote Coldplay, we live in a beautiful world. But our beautiful world is regularly one and the same as our ivory tower, our constant abode, leaving us existing in an inchoate domain, oblivious to an enormous realm, a realm, though beautiful, with much suffering. Despite the beauty of this world, it is, for others, a dim world, with limited possibilities. Oftentimes, we are bubbled in our own little sphere, -- a sphere that we feel comfortable with – consequently, although perhaps by accident, ignoring our communities and the neediest among us. Now, reader, before you shake your head at, and cease reading, what seems to be a humanistic datribe, I cadge you to continue. Earlier, I asserted fulfillment comes not from satisfying one’s own needs but rather from being needed by (an)other(s). The world we live in has a bevy of dilemmas, problems some left by preceding generations and others of our own creation. Ladies, as an alternative to casual dating or pursuing unproductive, short term relationships, consider getting involved community activities or causes you are passionate are about, causes that build up others, such as mentorships or tutoring for students in underperforming schools. This involvement will improve the world in which we reside, – a world in need of fixing -- while also imparting a 20

meaning and fulfillment that short term relationships cannot. Women, regardless of age, should realize that not having a boyfriend or husband should not result in one being ostracized, and that just because society has expectations does not require an obligation to conform to norms of the collective. Know that your value does come from the guy you are dating. However, my preceding recommendation should not be construed as plan to obviate marriage or a healthy, committed relationship. Quite the contrary, it is my belief that a woman with priorities other than finding her other half appear more attractive to men of quality. Your being involved in other activities and lacking obsessive relationship disorder immediately signifies to any young men that you are “Know that your value does not desperate for a guy, and that a come from the guy you are relationship with you will require dating. “ attentiveness and commitment, qualities not possessed by cads, thus, sifting out men with less than desirable attributes. As a wise (and unknown) woman once said, “I will not be any man's half time, downtime, spare time, or sometimes, so don't waste my time.” This sassy and classy adage incorporates a hard-to-get attitude, while projecting an attitude of selfpossession, an attitude that gentlemen revere and respect, while, conversely, eliciting a whimper from craven players. While appreciating, and often being attracted to, opinionated, lucid women, who have priorities other than themselves, the sophisticated gentleman eschews the prosaic female, especially if she is wrapped up in herself. Do yourself a favor: Reach outside of yourself. Find the fulfillment you have not been able to grasp in a short term relationship by being needed by someone outside of a guy/girl relationship. Besides, when the right guy comes along, he will appreciate the fact that you are dedicated to something other (and greater) than yourself. Transfix him with your salient personality and character. Just as the Chesapeake Bay cuts into Maryland, creating almost as much tidal coastline as that of California, relationships expressly known to be short term, can cleave into a your personal development, perpetuate being in oblivion to those around you, and are, frankly, an attempt to fill a Pacific-Ocean-sized-hole in one’s life with the Chesapeake Bay. Ladies, instead of vacuuming up attention for yourselves, in attempt to be fulfilled, by seeking a casual relationship, consider looking outside of your wants, your emotions, for fulfillment; because, there you will find it, and possibly a man of quality. 21

Discretionary Income by Faith Lierheimer

The battle cry of the college student and the young twenty-something is most often “I’m broke!” And while our student debt and expensive tuition and even more expensive books do seem to perpetuate a constant state of financial tightness, much of the stereotypical lack of money in young adults comes from a lack of understanding basic financial planning. Each month this section will feature explanations of financial jargon and how they can apply directly to your life. This month’s financial phrase is discretionary income. Discretionary income refers to money leftover after taxes, mandatory bills like rent, tuition, and books, and expenditure on necessary items like groceries. While this definition may seem obvious, it’s one that demands deeper consideration. As we enter more and more into complete financial independence from our parents, it becomes glaringly obvious that the difference between necessary and unnecessary expenditures is different for everyone and hard to distinguish. Because at the time, your morning Starbucks seems like a necessity when in fact most financial planners would put expenses like coffee runs and eating out under discretionary income. In the current state of affairs, it’s important to take a tight-belt approach in your financial planning. This means making the real necessities-books, rent, tuition, groceries-the priority. It also means planning the way you spend your monthly income in a detailed and precise manner. It will seem tedious when you write out how you are going to spend every dollar that comes your way, but by getting in that habit you’ll get a better handle on how much your necessities actually cost every month, where you can cut costs, and where you need to pony up. Detailed financial planning also brings to light how much discretionary income you actually have coming your way every month. So take the time to look it over-you’ll be surprised at how much half an hour with your budget every month can do for your financial health! Stay tuned for next month’s financial jargon unraveled: long-term vs. short-term savings!

Dorm Room Decorating by Dahlia Joseph When decorating your dorm room it’s so important to keep in mind this is the place where you are going to spend majority of your time. You need to make it into a space that you will be happy coming back to everyday, a positive and inspiring place. A great place to get ideas for your dorm room is by looking at other rooms, even things and places that you like. If you love the beach incorporate elements of it in your room, whether it be your comforter or wall art. Go on Pinterest and look through the home décor board, there is plenty of inspiration there as well. Once you have an idea of a theme for your room, it’s time to go shopping. Hit up places such as Target and Walmart, which have all of the college essentials like bedding and kitchenware. While your there make sure to pick up some storage bins and draws. These are lifesavers! Sometimes dorm rooms don’t have the best storage so having extra is always a plus. Everything is organized and remains in one place. An Interview with Professor Cate MacDonald Professor Cate MacDonald is the director of the Academy at Houston Baptist University, a dual enrollment program for high schoolers. It uses a Socratic Great Books approach. For more information on the Academy, check out their website at http://www.hbu.edu/Choosing-HBU/Academics/Colleges-Schools/TheAcademy.aspx. and their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ HBUAcademy. You moved from California to Texas last year. Is there anything you like better about Texas? “I actually like Houston a lot better than I ever liked Los Angles. I live in a really pretty area by Rice University, and it’s beautiful, the trees and everything. In Texas, it’s also easier to get out of the city and just be in nature.” What’s the one thing you miss most about California? “My family. That was hard. Especially since my sister got married last October, right after I moved in August. And now she’s expecting a baby this October, so having that area of the family grow without me being there, that’s been hard.” What inspired you to start the Academy? “When I was in high school, I took a class that changed my whole perspective on learning. I realized that learning could be truly important. I always wanted to start a school, but I didn’t know how. All the finances and things like that. And how to get students. Like why would a parent entrust their child to me? But then Dr. [John Mark] Reynolds (the Provost of Houston Baptist University) called me, and he had a couple of ideas, and one of them was, do you want to start a high 42

Lifestyle school that uses the Socratic teaching method at HBU. And so I moved to Texas and started the Academy.” What is your favorite class memory? “That’s a difficult one. Last semester, we had a mother and a daughter come and sit in on an Academy class to see what it was like. I think it was our philosophy course. And I had all the kids introduce themselves, and the mom asked them what they liked about the Academy. And every single student, without a bit of prompting from me, starting saying everything I could have wanted. About how they were free, how they loved to read, they loved the books, about how it was hard work but they enjoyed it. The same thing happened during one of our orientations earlier this summer. One of the potential student’s parents challenged the Socratic method of the Academy. And every single one of the current students was jumping out of their seats to defend the Academy, to testify about the difference it had made in their lives, and how much they loved to learn now because of this program. It was really great.” The syllabus for the Academy contains so many wonderful books. What is your favorite book to teach? “Probably Wuthering Heights. I feel like it’s so often misread as a love story. And the students get so passionate about it. Pragmatists hate it, and romanticists always defend it.” What is your favorite vacation that you’ve ever taken? “When I was 16, 17, and 18, my dad and my sister and I would take our horses up into the Sierra Mountains. It was wonderful. It was also a crazy packing

Lifestyle experience, because it was really cold in the mountains, but there were these hot springs. So you’d end up wearing your bathing suit, shorts, cowboy boots, a flannel shirt, with your hair all done in these crazy braids. But it was so peaceful, just you and the animals. I loved it.” Who is your style icon? “I’m a minimalist. I wear a lot of black. When I was in California, my friend and I did the Twenty Pieces project, and so for a whole year we only owned twenty pieces of clothing. When I moved to Texas, I did have to buy some things, because I went from working in a very casual environment to being in a leadership position at a university. I’d probably say Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face or Breakfast at Tiffany’s, because she has these key pieces that she uses and she works them so well. My other option would be Grace Kelly. Are your weekends just crazy busy, or do you take time to relax? I like to ride horses and to sleep! However, I do spend most of my weekends preparing for classes, so lots and lots of reading. What does living like Audrey mean to you? To me, Living Like Audrey means living a creative lifestyle. Not a lot of people get to do that, and I think it’s very important. Also, being elegant throughout your whole life.

Internship Apparel by Dahlia Joseph

So you've applied, interviewed and landed yourself an internship for the fall. Congratulations! Now what are you going to wear? You may find yourself overwhelmed with options and questions. Firstly, and most importantly, find out what your office’s dress code is. Keep an eye out at your office and figure out what the other ladies are sporting. This way you'll have a better idea of what is acceptable and unacceptable. Business casual attire has been interpreted so differently throughout the years; some offices allow jeans while others might send you home for wearing them. If your office allows denim, I suggest always going for a darker wash. Dark wash jeans look more professional, especially paired with a great blazer and pumps, giving you a very polished look. Add a statement necklace and a pretty handbag and you'll be ready for business. If your office prefers if you didn’t wear jeans you have plenty of options as well. You can wear a nice Chino pant, with an unlimited variety of colors and prints, accompanied by a lovely blouse with flats or pumps. If your office is business professional don’t think you're limited to stuffy suits. You have plenty of options as well. For example dress pants come in so many different fits; boot cut, skinny, wide leg. Pair these pants with a nice blouse with some heels and you're dressed for success. Make sure your blouses fit you well and modestly; avoid cleavage and exposed backside at all costs. Similarly, your pants should fit and not be clinging to your skin or falling off of you. If you keep all of this in mind while preparing your wardrobe you'll be ready to conquer your internship with style, grace, and class.

Back to Class Fashion by Yzabelle Onate It’s already the middle of summer and as school approaches sometimes it’s hard to think of what you’re going to wear your first days back. You want to look your best and make a good impression on your classmates. Whatever your style, here are a few back to class ideas perfect for when it’s not too hot or too cold. Like a Lady

I love dresses because they can be so versatile; I can wear them no matter what the season! This look is inspired by Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. If you’ve ever seen the movie, Holly’s dresses are structured and have an A-line silhouette. The color of this dress is great for the end of summer and the hat can be paired with the dress to shield your face.

Class Prep

My style is usually a mix between all these looks, but this one is my go-to. A tailored button-up, can be paired with shorts for the hot weather or jeans/khakis. This look is simple but effortless, perfect for back to school!

Fashion Take me West

These Western inspired looks came to mind when I bought the boots seen in the picture. Double denim can be a fashion crime unless worn correctly. It’s okay in these looks because different shades of denim are used; this breaks up the outfit. If you want the outfit to look more relaxed, roll up your jean cuffs. Geometric and turquoise jewelry make me think of the West, perfect for this theme. You’re not tied to complete each look verbatim, but use them as inspiration for your own fashion creations. Have fun and always wear what makes you feel good!

Beauty Review by Seijah Drake Summer is the season of appearance. We spend all year cultivating the perfect bikini body, and as the sun shows its shining face a little longer each day and the weather warms up we see more and more people trying to regulate their diets and make more time for the gym. To look and feel your best this summer, I've done a good amount of browsing and asking around to find the best list of products that every young lady could benefit from owning this August. While I respect everyone's right to wear as much makeup as they want when they want, the summer is a time of minimalism and simplicity. In the heavy, unforgiving heat of August, I advise wearing as little makeup as possible. Embrace the carefree atmosphere of summer while it lasts before the hustle and bustle of fall returns, along with the unpredictable weather for many of us, and keep your makeup simple. What you need all year long, though, are moisturized, pretty lips. No one wants to remember their summer love with chapped kisses, but no one wants to remember them with sticky kisses either. The problem I've always had with lip products is that while chap stick moisturizes my lips, there is no color involved and lip gloss leaves my lips feeling sticky, and after it wears off they feel dry. If you want something that not only gives your lips a pretty, summery pink but a moisture that lasts for hours, look no further than the Nivea's Kiss of Shimmer! As much as we may deny it, every girl wants their Baywatch moment. Whether or not you have straight platinum blonde hair or curly red hair or kinky brown hair, we're all lusting after the idea of being the bombshell of the beach. I did my best to incorporate products for different hair types so that all of our readers were able to get the beach babe hair they wanted. The humidity that often accompanies summer means shrinkage, and for curly and kinky hair types, hair can appear inches and inches shorter and often end up tangled. Dark and Lovely's Au Naturale Anti-Shrinkage line is the curly headed girl's best friend this summer, no matter the type of curls. For wavy and straight hair, creating the perfect beach waves can pose quite a challenge! After asking my lovely straight and wavy haired friends how they're maintaining their hair, I've discovered that to keep their hair beautiful and frizz free, they use FX Curls Up Reactivator. In the heat of summer, no one takes for granted the importance of a daily dose of deodorant. What many of us may tend to neglect, however, are our feminine regions. That part of us perspires as well, and maintenance down 52

Fashion under is just as imperative as it is anywhere else on our bodies! To guarantee a lasting freshness, I recommend Summer's Eve Cleansing Wash. You can be as active as you want this summer without having to question yourself down there, so don't hesitate to take that hike or run that marathon! With the products I've recommended, I hope I've brought you that much closer to being the best, happiest version of yourself that you can possibly be, and that you enjoy your August!
