Each Tri-C for Kids Summer Camp has at least one coordinator helping in class. The coordinators are with the children all day including any time they are in the classroom, walking to and from class, or are entering or leaving the premises. I and our lead coordinator, Fran Tomba, work with each camp offered as both coordinators and monitors of activities along with the classroom coordinators.

You will receive a Parent Letter a week or so before your camp which details everything you need to know from drop off on day 1 to pick up on the last day of each camp. WHAT’S CHANGED? • Lunch with the Kings and Queens, Noon – 1 p.m. daily at sites with camps running that week At Tri-C for Kids we offer full day and half day programs. As in the past, lunch each day is at about Noon. for those campers who are scheduled into a morning camp and an afternoon camp the same day or into a full day camp each week. Special rooms are assigned for lunch. All morning camps end at Noon. All afternoon camps begin at about 1 p.m. All full day camps are as scheduled. This year, your child will enjoy the lunch she or he brings in the GAME ROOM where we will be playing chess and checkers with a 25” Giant Chess Set or a Checkers game with pieces that are 10” in diameter and sit 3 1/2” tall! Or, how about “being” the chess players with a lifesized game of chess where everyone is a character! Last year, these programs were a hit with campers who participated in the before camp programs. This summer, they are part of our lunch program to get everyone into the fun and excitement of playing the games with our huge chess and checkers pieces. Campers will be joined by our staff as they enjoy their lunch with the Kings and Queens! We will have one of these games per campus each week where scheduled camps are running. Camp participants will enjoy a special lunch experience before heading to their camps! To join in the fun, register for a full day camp or a morning and afternoon session at the same campus in the same week. • For those campers leaving campus at Noon, our staff will meet parents at the designated pick up point to pick up your child until the next day. • For those campers just arriving at 1 p.m. for an afternoon session only, our staff will meet parents at the designated drop off point and take your child to camp. • For those campers in full day camps, our staff will move with the children from camp to lunch and back to camp as in the past.

Is your child into high tech? Our Tech Kids summer program includes: 2D Video Game Design, 3D Video Game Design, Digital Video Production and Web Design with Animation. Each day campers learn fun new skills and gain practical knowledge of the careers in the world of gaming and digital design! All courses are taught by professionally trained Tri-C staff. Each staff member holds a bachelor’s degree or higher in technology, has real-world business experience in her or his area of expertise and has been teaching for at least two years in the field. This adventure is reasonably priced and exciting with games, videos, and other digital projects your child will create!

Karate and Martial Arts: Grades 6 and Up

Learn proper self-defense and traditional karate techniques that will help you stay safe when at school, at play, and when on your own. Our instructor, a black belt in Martial Arts brings years of experience in martial arts training to Tri-C. Each class will include karate training, self-defense and drills. You will learn and practice basic Karate techniques such as strikes and blocks, and throws and joint manipulation in response to various attacks. You will learn how to recognize and deter threats of physical violence. You will also learn the history of this discipline.

Young Entrepreneurs Club: Grades 9 and Up Do you seek out and grab opportunities? Maybe you dream about earning your first million. Tri-C is dedicated to helping youths achieve their goals by expanding young minds. Our Young Entrepreneurs Club uses state-of-the-art technology to help young entrepreneurs look into the world of business, tap creativity and develop a business concept for profitable enterprise.

Upon successful completion of this camp, you will be able to recognize and avoid confrontational situations using basic self defense techniques to defend yourself if necessary through: • Avoidance • Recognition of types of attacks • Stances • Falls (to be performed on mats) • Hand strikes • Blocks • Kicks • Defenses against lunge attacks • Defenses against wrist grabs • Defenses against chokes • Introduction to sparring

Picasso and Me Visual Arts Adventure: Grades 6 and Up

The Power Play: Grades 3 – 6 and Grades 7 and Up

Could you be the next Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, William Hogarth, or Leonardo da Vinci? Interested in expressing yourself through the visual arts? In this camp test your skill and learn new ones in the forms of Anime, Drawing, Caricatures, and Portraits. Have fun exaggerating the likeness of your best friend in a caricature. Create a portrait of your sibling focusing on the special traits of her or his face and expression to capture their personality on canvas. Or, use Anime to create Japanese animation by hand. You will work with pencil, charcoal, pastel, and watercolor paints. Explore the use of color through the blending and shading of pastels and paints. Create your masterpiece from people and things around you including the majesty of the outdoors.

Can’t decide which camp to take? How about mixing it up? With The Power Play Camp you can take four different camps in one week!

Tri-C Teen Culinary Academy: Grades 6 – 8, Grades 9 and Up

CSI: Tri-C for Grades 4 – 6 and Grades 7 and Up

Explore the exciting world of culinary arts by learning skills from Tri-C expert chefs. Learn the basics of food safety and proper handling of utensils. Have fun learning proper culinary techniques like chopping, dicing, and cutting while making delicious and healthy wraps, pizzas, treats, and more! Discover hospitality careers with knowledgeable and successful chefs while having fun cooking!

Are you good at finding clues to solving mysteries? We’ll use hands-on activities and “Who Dunnit” mysteries to explore detective work, observe the scene, gather evidence, analyze evidence, and draw conclusions. We’ll gather and use physical evidence to solve a mystery. Wear old clothes as (weather permitting) you will be outside some of the time. Participants should bring their drinks and snacks.

Camp Notes: We follow ServSafe Food Handling procedures. All students must wear non-stick, closed-toe shoes such as sneakers and comfortable, long pants. Students should not wear jewelry.

Extreme Science: Grades 4 – 6, Grades 7 – 10

Dance, Dance, Dance: Hip-Hop and Modern for Grades 4 – 8, Grades 9 and Up

Have you ever wondered why we have such extreme weather? Maybe you want to know what happened to dinosaurs or you’re interested in nature in all its amazing forms. In this camp you’ll explore new areas related to weather, the Earth, oceanography and science each day including the cause and effect of extreme weather from typhoons, hurricanes, tornadoes and tsunamis to earthquakes, mud slides and other earth-rattling events. You’ll look at Earth’s history from insects to dinosaurs and examine the ocean and how it affects weather. Projects you create will help you grasp the topics discussed in camp. Snacks and drinks must be provided by the student. Wear comfortable clothes. $135 per student

You will have fun learning the latest dance steps! Get ready with stretching exercises, move to dance routines, and, of course learn the latest in basic hip-hop and modern dance styles. You do not need to know how to dance to enjoy this camp. Do wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move around easily and please wear sneakers. $139 per student

Like fashion? Want to start a career in design? Or, do you just want to make a gift for a special person in your life? You will practice designing your own clothes and accessories using design software. You will then practice those techniques by making an easy item of clothing or an accessory item. Learn basic sewing techniques, fitting and terminology. All supplies are included. Machines are available for you and your fellow designers to share in class. By recovering, studying, and analyzing environmental artifacts, architecture, and other cultural findings left behind by previous human societies, we get a glimpse of how they lived, worked, worshiped, and played. Archaeology blends several sciences together such as mathematics, sociology, geology, astronomy, and more. Join us in this camp to learn about past civilizations and how they compare to us today. Young Photographers’ Studio: Taking Exciting Photos! Grades 6 and Up

Driver Ed: Classroom Instruction for Ages 15 Years 5 Months and Up (THIS IS A COURSE AND NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ANY SPECIAL FUNDING PROGRAM)

Digital photography is hot, and kids and Tweens want in on the fun. Capturing special times at school or at home is what it’s all about! In this program you will learn how to properly use your camera. Learn what those controls on your camera mean and how they can help you take shots you can be proud of. Everything from pixels to shooting is covered in this program. It’s a must for you as an up and coming photographer. You will learn to use light for a special look. Working with the flash you’ll learn when to use it and what it can do to make your pictures perfect! And, of course you’ll learn how to touch up photos when something isn’t quite right. You should bring your camera to class or you may share one of our digital cameras for class. You should wear comfortable clothing as, weather permitting you may be outside to take some shots to work on. $99

Learn the classroom part of the OH BMV-approved driver education program. Students less than 18 years of age must attend the mandated 24 hours of classroom instruction required by Ohio law and must pass a written test. Upon successful completion of both parts of the course, students will be awarded a certificate and may qualify for an auto insurance discount. The required text will be given to each student in class. Classroom instruction is given at 3 Tri-C campuses: Eastern, Metro, and Western. Students must attend each class as scheduled in order to meet the minimum classroom instruction requirement as per Ohio law. Camp Notes: Students have six months from the start of the classroom instruction to successfully complete both the classroom and road instruction. Ohio law requires students take the classroom and road instruction with the same driving school. Tri-C uses Advanced Driving School. Students register for the classroom instruction through Tri-C by calling 866-933-5178 and for the road instruction directly with Advanced Driving School by calling 440-382-1000. The instructor will review the road instruction and registration procedure in class.

I am entering into this legally binding agreement for good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which I hereby acknowledge. I am the parent or guardian of the child named above, and hereby request that my child be permitted to participate in Cuyahoga Community College District’s (the “College” or “College’s”) “Summer Camp Program.” All College actions, requirements, directions, and standards shall be deemed to have been intended for the benefit of my child. Although a minor, my child is aware of the risks involved with participating in Tri-C’s Summer camp Program. I assure the College that I have carefully counseled my child on the risk of participating. Further, I warrant and represent that no physical or other reason would restrict or preclude my child’s participation. I authorize the College and its trustees, officers, students, vendors, consultants, and employees (collectively, the “Affiliates”) to obtain such medical care, emergency or otherwise, that it or they may deem necessary for my child. Further, I warrant and represent that I have adequate health insurance or personal funds to provide payment for all costs of such medical care, which shall be my responsibility. I acknowledge and agree that the College may dismiss my child from [Tri-C’s Summer Camp Program], either temporarily or permanently, in the event of behavior that is disruptive, dangerous, uncooperative, or otherwise unacceptable in the sole judgment of the College; and in such event, the College will owe no refund or other compensation whatsoever. I grant irrevocable permission to the College and its Affiliates to use my child’s name, photograph, video, likeness, voice, statements, or biographical material (collectively, “Material”) associated with the Event(s) in any and all manner and media throughout the world, in perpetuity. I irrevocably assign all worldwide copyrights in the Material to the College. I waive any rights of inspection or approval. I agree that the Material may be edited, adapted, expanded, revised, or modified at the sole discretion of the College and its Affiliates. I consent to use of the Materials in connection with publicity, advertising, promotion, publication, and any other purposes.
