Are you ready to “Rock the Blue” LJCDS? Let's celebrate! We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful environment for our children, faculty and administration. Our children are so lucky to be able to experience locally and globally the less fortunate. Whether it is going to Head Start, collecting cans for the Food Bank, or gathering items for Haiti's devastation, all of these projects are what help shape the character of our children. Many of these projects would not be available without our Community Service program. Are your children happy when you pick them up every day? Mine are! I believe that it is a direct reflection of our wonderful faculty. Happy teachers make learning fun and exciting! Here at LJCDS, Teacher Enrichment is an important element in supporting our teachers. They are continually offered workshops, seminars, conferences and continued education to keep them refreshed. Like any of us, teachers too, need re-energizing! As we all know, there are many children who would love to experience LJCDS, but are not financially able to. Our school believes that our community is stronger when it includes students from all socioeconomic backgrounds. That is why we offer Tuition Assistance; to give these students the opportunity regardless of their economic circumstances. I can not express enough gratitude to my co-chairs Clare Sturtevant, Christine Ashworth, and Fara Fashandi. Not only for their huge commitment towards this event, but also for their friendship. To RobynAnn Nelson and Barbara Maisel, thank you for educating me and helping me manage this project in a way I never knew existed. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers, teachers, and administration! I hope you will come “Rock the Blue” on May 1st to show your support and celebrate a wonderful time for our children. All the best,

Belinda Donner

Parents' Association President

Dear Country Day Families, Over the last five years—with your enthusiastic support—we’ve completely re-invented and re-built the heart of campus. We’ve erected a world-class library, state of the art science labs, the most compelling art studios in the city, and a kindergarten village that engages and nurtures the minds that will one day lead our state and our country through the late stages of the twenty-first century. We’ve carted off old tennis courts for new, and we’ve [gently] dismantled old classrooms. But we have not touched Senior Rock. In fact, NO ONE touches Senior Rock…save for members of the graduating class, for whom the Rock has been something of a stone age Twitter account for years and years. Late in February, the members of the Class of 2010 paid homage to the Spring Gala and all that the Parents’ Association does in support of our students and teachers, and I wanted to share this picture with you. We are an extraordinary community, with an extraordinary mission. The students and faculty of La Jolla Country Day thank you and wish you a rollicking evening as you endeavor to ROCK THE BLUE. All the best,!

Chris

Auction Guidelines

Bid for Our Kids!

Auction Guidelines Registration Registration opens at 5:30 p.m. and is located in the lobby of the Four Flowers Theatre. 1. All attendees will be given a bidder number on a bid card in their registration packet. This is the number that you will use to bid throughout the evening in both the Silent and Live Auction. It is important you double check you have received the correct registration packet. Keep your bid card with you throughout the evening. 2. If you register before 6:00 p.m. you will receive a raffle ticket to be included in the Early Bird Opportunity. The Early Bird winner will be announced during the Live Auction. 3. Sign up for Express Pay and simplify your check-out at the end of the evening. Present your credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover) at registration and an imprint will be made. No charges will be made to your credit card unless you become a successful bidder.

Silent Auction

Silent Auction Bidding: 5:30 – 7:50 p.m. 1. All items in the Silent Auction will have bid sheets. Please write your bid number legibly next to any available bid amount. Minimum bids, in increments shown on each bid sheet, must be observed. 2. The minimum bid increments are printed on the bid sheet. You do not have to take the next available bid increment, but may skip to a higher amount. You must bid a higher amount than all previous bidders to be successful. 3. All bid sheets must be filled-out legibly and completely. 4. A guaranteed purchase price option will be offered on select Silent Auction items. This option gives you the opportunity to purchase a Silent Auction item instantly at the specified guaranteed purchase price.

5. All bidding is stopped on a given item when a bidder provides a bid number next to the guaranteed purchase price noted at the bottom of the bid sheet. 6. In the Silent Auction, your bidder number on the bid sheet constitutes a legal contract to purchase the item. 7. You may bid on any item in the Silent Auction until the section is closed. The highest valid bid will be circled as the winning bid when the section closes. 8. In the event of a dispute, the Auctioneer will have the sole and final discretion to determine the successful bid.

Live Auction

Live Auction Bidding: begins at 8:00 p.m. 1. To bid in the Live Auction, raise your bid card high with the number forward until the Auctioneer acknowledges your bid. The Auctioneer may specify a minimum raise at any time during the bidding. 2. The highest bidder acknowledged by the Auctioneer will be the purchaser of that item. Such acknowledgement shall be legal and binding. With the word “SOLD from the Auctioneer, title to the auction item will pass to the highest bidder, who then assumes full risk and responsibility and will pay full purchase price for the item. 3. In the event of a dispute between bidders, the Auctioneer has sole and final discretion to determine the successful bidder or to re-offer the item.

Fund-An-Item During Live Auction 1. This is your opportunity to make a difference by direct giving. There will be three fund-an-items in the Live Auction to benefit specific projects at La Jolla Country Day School. They are Tuition Assistance, Teacher Enrichment, and Community Service. 2. The Auctioneer will announce different levels of giving. When you hear the level that you want to pledge, raise your bid card high with the number forward until the Auctioneer acknowledges you. The amount you indicate will be added to your purchases for the evening.

Check-Out and Pick-Up Opens at 10:00 p.m.

1. Bidders who have selected Express Pay at registration do not have to stand in line to pay for their purchases. Instead, proceed directly to the Pick-Up table in the gym to retrieve your auction items. 2. Bidders who did not elect to use Express Pay at registration must first pay for their purchases at the Cashiers table located in the lobby of the Four Flowers before retrieving their items. We will gladly accept payment by cash, check (payable to LJCDS PA) or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover). 3. All auction items and gift certificates must be removed from the premises by the end of the evening, May 1, 2010. For items not picked up, please contact Acquisitions Chair, Fara Fashandi at 858-336-7311 or ffashandi@aol.com.

Terms and Conditions 1. All sales are final and no exchanges or refunds are allowed. All items are sold “as is”. Items have been donated to the auction with the understanding that no exchanges or refunds are allowed, unless specifically agreed to and authorized by the donor in advance. 2. Each person who has been issued a bidder number assumes all risks and liabilities related to the auction and items obtained at the auction. Each bidder agrees to indemnify and hold harmless La Jolla Country Day School Parents’ Association, its elected and appointed officials, officers, board members and employees, the Auctioneer, the event organizers, sponsors, and/ or volunteers connected with the auction from any claims or liability related to the auction and/or items obtained at the auction. By purchasing the product or service, you (as the buyer) waive any and all claims for liability against the La Jolla Country Day School Parents’ Association for any damage, loss or injury resulting from or connected with the use or receipt of any item or service auctioned. 3. La Jolla Country Day School Parents’ Association shall not be responsible for the correctness of descriptions, genuineness, authorship, provenance or condition of the items. 4. La Jolla Country Day School Parents’ Association reserves the right to withdraw any item from the Auction at any time before the actual sale. 5. Estimated values of items are those supplied by the donors. La Jolla Country Day School Parents’ Association makes no claim, express or implied, as to the estimated value of any item. The purchase price of your item may qualify for a potential charitable deduction only to the extent that the purchase price exceeds the stated market value.
