To Our Friends New and Old, Returning to a school after years away, it is always reassuring to see a favorite teacher or your special place on a campus. I want also to assure you that the school that made you a well-rounded Scholar, Artist and Athlete of Character, continues its traditions but also has kept looking for innovative ways to keep you proud of being a Torrey.
Chris Schuck, Head of School
To that end: • A committee of parents, students and staff are working to increase solar, decrease our carbon footprint and make this sparkling new campus ever more sustainable. • Our commitment to financial aid grows each year and now surpasses $4-million. • We continue to reach out to a complex world – through technology that brings the world to us and through outreach that finds our students working with orphans in the Caribbean, water projects in Africa and food banks in San Diego. • After saying farewell to a number of beloved, long-serving teachers, we have sought out and hired some of America’s best young teaching talent and with that come new perspectives, energy and ambitions. • And we have joined hands with new partners far and near – from sister-schools in Paris, Madrid and Shanghai to our next door neighbors at UCSD to tap the best of the global village for today’s Torreys. And, after nearly a quarter century at Country Day, I am personally inspired to see dozens of our Alumni bringing their own children back, trusting us to do for their offspring what we had done for them. There is no better endorsement of a school. I hope you enjoy your visit with us and hope you return often to Country Day and share with our current students all that you have achieved in your adult lives. Chris Schuck, Head of School
