Be part of something bigger

At LJMU, we encourage and support our students to become active, informed and responsible citizens. Our goal is to prepare students to shape society in a more just and sustainable way, laying the groundwork so that they might tackle the challenges of the 21st Century.

GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

Whether volunteering within the local community or further afield, students give their time and talent to help people in need and support a range of worthwhile causes. Volunteering develops life skills, enhances career prospects, opens minds and builds confidence.

ENCOURAGING ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP

We help our students make their mark and become truly engaged with their community, whether that’s based on campus, within the city of Liverpool or across the world. Students take up mentorship and leadership roles, make a difference through student societies, inspire schoolchildren and support members of the community. From our emissions reduction targets and recycling schemes to our Green Travel Plan and sustainable food initiatives – we’re playing our part in tackling environmental challenges.

CELEBRATING DIVERSITY

At LJMU, we believe: ‘we are always equal, but never the same’. We are committed to creating a learning and working environment which values and recognises the full potential of each individual. The university has a comprehensive Equality and Diversity Policy that complies with national and antidiscrimination legislation. The policy articulates the rights and respects pertaining to every individual and a clear commitment for challenging discrimination and the distress this causes.

It’s one thing to learn academically about helping others, but another altogether when you’re out there in the real world helping people first-hand.
