means holy, saint and “eve” the day or night before an important date; so it is the day before November 1st: “All Saint’s day”. On Halloween children have lots of scary fun. They dress up as witches, devils, skeletons and vampires or other scary characters. With the help of their parents, they make lanterns out of pumpkins. These decorated pumpkins are called Jack O’lanterns. Small groups of children dressed up as witches, skeletons, etc go into the street and knock on people’s doors. When a person opens the door, they say “Trick or treat?” Most people usually say “treat” and give the children some sweets.

example, they put dirty water on the windows or car, and

repeatedly knock on the window or throw flour on
the floor. Water guns are very popular, too. After spending the night Trick-or-treating, the children go back home to eat the sweets. Sometimes, groups of friends have parties, where they eat food in the form of Halloween shapes, and play Halloween games. One traditional game is called “Bobbing for Apples”. In this game you have to pick up an apple with your mouth from a bowl of water, with your hands behind your back. You can’t use your hands! It is very difficult and you get a wet face, but you have a great time!
2.- How to make a Jack’o’lantern: 1.- Select a ripe pumpkin and draw a circle or hexagon on top of the pumpkin in preparation for making an opening large enough for your hand to reach through.
3.- Cut through the stem end of the pumpkin along your outline with a sharp knife or pumpkin-carving tool. Use a back-and-forth slicing motion to cut through the thick, tough skin. 4.- Remove the stem end, which will act as a cap, making sure you scrape off any seeds or pulp. 5.- Use a large spoon to scoop out the seeds and pulp from inside the pumpkin. Hold the spoon by its bowl to get extra leverage while scooping.
6.- Draw a pattern for the face on the clean pumpkin with a felt-tip pen. Be sure to make the eyes, nose and mouth large enough. Cut all the way through the pumpkin. Then push the cut-out features gently from the inside of the pumpkin and discard the
pieces.
9.- Place a candle inside the pumpkin to create an eerie glow.
3.- GETTING READY FOR THE TOP FLESH ACTIVITY. Children received an invitation for a master class of cooking.
They were
asked to cook a scary and disgusting meal which somehow had to be eatable. For doing so, they had to work in groups what implied a distribution of the tasks for all the members: creating a recipe from the scratch, thinking of eatable ingredients and how to mix them up in order to get a horrible meal in appearance. The jury formed by bloody Martha, Annie the witch and Tonistein would decide which meal was the best (what they did not know is that all of them would end up with a frightful certificate of participation, because competition was not the main aim of the activity at all)
