DIFFERENT TYPES OF PAINTS

RawMaterial:

Acrylic coatings mainly consist of resins, solvents, additives and pigments.

History:

Paint was used 30,000 years ago; cave men used crude oil paints to record their accomplishments on walls. In mid 1880s paint industry started to become popular.

Properties:

Acrylic coatings consist of pigments, binder(resin) which holds the pigment in place, an extender which are large pigment particles added to increase strength and adhesion, solvent/thinner which is an organic solvent or water used to decrease the viscosity of paint for better application, additives are added to enhance properties of paint.

Advantage:

Resistance to water, quick drying, and color don’t fade easily like cement coatings, easy to decorate, easy to clean.

Disadvantage: or uses.

Not strong as cement paints especially for exteri-

PRODUCTION 1- Raw materials; Resins, solvents and pigments are added. 2- Liquid materials are mixed in a mixing tank. 3- A disperser is used for getting rid of lumps in paste. 4-The paste is added again in a mixing tank to remix the paste. 5-The paint is filtered before packaging. 6- Paint is added in plastic cans and sealed. 7- Paint is transported from factory to truck. 8-The truck is transported to supplier and then the client accesses the product through supplier.

APPLICATION

(Brick wall, Concrete surfaces, Gypsum board) 1- Mortar is applied. 2- Seal coat is applied above the mortar to resist moisture. (We skip mortar for gypsum board). 3- Putty paste is applied above the mortar. 4- Final finish layer of paint is applied. 5- An acrylic coat is applied for exterior above finish to protect from weather.

MAINTENANCE

TOOLS

1- Acrylic paints are easy to clean as they are not affected by water. 2- For repainting, the wall should be clean from dust or dirt and well sanded then a layer of finish paint is added.

1- Paint Brush, some brushes are used to apply paint to large areas, brushes’ width from 150mm to 200mm, other brushes are used specially for oil paints with widths from 25 mm to 50mm, 15mm brushes are used for edges and corners. 2- Rollers, offer quick application and are used for uncomplicated sections, the regular size used is 175 mm. 3- Spray guns, used for painting large areas in a short amount of time, but they are expensive. They are mainly used for exterior painting. 4- Aerosol, used for painting small areas but are also expensive.
