OVERVIEW

RawMaterial:

Plaster/Cement coatings are mainly made from Portland cement, silica sand, and special additives.

History:

It was used since ancient times. The earliest coatings were made of lime, sand, animal hair, and water.

Properties:

Water and weather resistant, it is sold in the form of dry powder that only needs to be mixed with water at the site before use.

Advantage:

High resistance to water and extreme weather conditions, stable against sun and UV rays, durable, economic.

Disadvantage:

Difficult to repair, with time changes color and needs to be renovated, cannot be coated with acrylic paints.

PRODUCTION 1- Raw materials; Cement, bonding material which is sand and other additives/colors. 2- All the dry materials are mixed together in a ball mill; a machine containing steel balls that crush the dry particles. 3- The dry mix is then packed into bags. 4- The cement coatings bags are then transported to the suppliers from the factory by trucks and then clients can access the products directly from the suppliers.

APPLICATION (Brick wall and concrete surfaces) 1- Plaster mortar/Spatter dash is applied to brick wall or concrete to even the surface. It is applied either by using spraying machine or manually using trowel. 2- A coat of render is applied directly for exterior. 3- For interior application, a putty paste is added after the mortar and then a layer of render. 4- Drying time of each coat takes three days. Water should be misted over the coat every 12 hours until the coat is completely dry.

MAINTENANCE 1- If coating is to be applied to an area highly subjected to rain or water, a coat of protective acrylic should be added to seal the cement paint. 2- For repainting, cement based paints should be used. First, the surface should be clean, any cracks should be repaired, and second, the wall should be sanded before applying render coat. 3- For filling cracks, first the crack should be cleaned by entering a filling knife through it to form the crack into a V shape. Second, wet the crack opening with a sponge or a cloth. Then fill the cavity with crack filler. A layer of render is applied to even out the color with the previous render coat.
