Healthy Communication: Roommate Edition 1. Getting off on the right foot is crucial; addressing potential problems before they occur can prevent stress and conflict in the future. 2. Speak directly (and politely) to your roommate about what is bothering you. Don't go behind their back or attempt to communicate passive aggressively - this breaks down trust and worsens conflict. 3. Be willing to compromise. You agreed to communal living and accepted the consequences that accompany it. Finding middle ground and determining a win-win situation is the best solution to all roommate issues.
