ZENTVELD’S COFFEE FARM AND ROASTERY

While many coffee roasters in Australia source their beans overseas, the Zentveld family have been growing, roasting, blending and brewing their coffee right here in the beautiful hills of Byron since 1993. Visitors are offered a genuine crop to cup experience, so you can sip a delicious fresh brew at the Coffee House overlooking the coffee trees and rainforest, then stock up on signature coffee, syrups, elixirs and chocolates. At the heart of the estate is a firm commitment to organic, regenerative farming and biodiversity. Beans are naturally pesticide-free, and well-established rainforest plantings have created a lively wildlife corridor and habitat for wallabies, echidnas, birds, and bees.

SHINY BREW

Just the spot for a tasty breakfast or lunch after a walk on the white sandy beach at Southern Kingscliff, Shiny Brew has an eclectic, largely (but not exclusively) plant-based menu packed full of wholesome delights. Think miso eggs benedict with haloumi chunks and sauteed mushrooms, granola with mango puree and rice noodle salad with green paw paw. An ever-changing selection of cakes and sweet treats also make the perfect accompaniment to a barista coffee. Cafe founders Karen and Leighton were drawn to the community spirit of the Northern Rivers and the wealth of beautiful produce available here and are all about supporting local businesses — which means the freshest local ingredients and a range of local products for sale, including jams, beauty products and candles. Shiny Brew is now fully licenced, so make sure to try the local Red Earth Beer or a local boutique gin.

THE PALM

All-day breakfast fans are happily indulged at The Palm, an atmospheric family-owned cafe and bar right in the heart of Pottsville, where the focus is on wholesome dishes cooked on-site using the freshest local ingredients. It’s all about the details, and everything is beautifully presented, which adds to the pleasure of a meal here. On the breakfast menu, fig and hazelnut fruit toast with cinnamon butter, smashed avo, and a decked-out breakfast burrito washed down, of course, with great coffee. More in the mood for lunch? How about a beef and cheeseburger, poached chicken and haloumi salad or zucchini fritter salads? Take a seat out on the sidewalk to enjoy a spot of people watching or enjoy the buzz of the terrace at the back. Friday and Saturday nights have a fun party vibe with Mexican food, music and margaritas.

SAJE BEAUTY AND COSMETIC

A specialised skin clinic in Kingscliff with a nurturing, spa-like environment, Saje offers a range of services, from advanced skin treatments and beauty services to cosmetic injectables. An experienced therapist, founder Natalie Leader, is highly knowledgeable about everything skin-related and offers a personalised touch to all her treatments. Specialised facials on offer include micro-needling, microdermabrasion, oxygen facials and the in-demand carbon or ‘Hollywood facial’, the latest in flawless skin, which combines laser with carbon cream for an instant glow. Those seeing the effect of sun damage can achieve great results with pigmentation correction IPL. POTTSVILLE GENERAL STORE

A one-stop shop for fruit, veggies and healthy goods, this super friendly, much loved Pottsville store has a motto of supporting locals — for locals. Channelling the true spirit of a general store, you can get a little bit of everything, from locally grown produce (including an organic range) to high-quality gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and paleo produce. Delicious frozen raspberries and blueberries are sold by the bucket — just the thing for making smoothies at home, while locally made gifts and fresh flowers are on offer too. Feeling peckish? Make sure to indulge in something from the takeaway menu; it’s all delicious, from acai bowls to coco whip, vibrant fresh juices and lush smoothies. And when it comes to gluten-free cakes and brownies, these guys are the boss. The cupcakes are our favourite and come in delicious flavours like zesty lemon curd, vanilla bean and berries, and salted caramel.

We are blessed with ideal picnic conditions in the Northern Rivers thanks to our tropical climate, countless beaches and picturesque riverbanks, and Byron’s own Wandering Folk provides the perfect premium picnic accessories. Inspired by her love of camping adventures shared with great friends and good food, textile designer Sharnee Thorpe created this whimsical range, starting with rugs. Featuring hand-drawn vintage floral designs, each stunning Wandering Folk rug is made from cotton canvas with a water-resistant base and comes with a handy ornate carry strap. The popularity of the rugs has led to a range of gorgeous products including a hand woven vintage-style picnic basket, cooler bags, cushion covers and woven throws which are made from pre-consumer recycled cotton.
