Historic Barn Book Sales Our Friends volunteers recently partnered with the Young Men’s Service League to rearrange the books in the barn for the new year. There are now three distinct sections following the architecture of the barn: Non-Fiction, Fiction, and the new Children’s room. Hardcover and paperback fiction are now together by author and children and teens now have a whole room of books available to browse. We hope that you will be able to locate your favorite titles more easily. Romance paperbacks will now be located in the self-serve lobby shop. Our donations are dated the month we receive them. If a book has been in our barn for over six months it moves to the self-service lobby shop for a month. After our 2nd Saturday sale, those books are packed and offered to other AFPLS Friends groups or sent to one of our partner online sales organizations. This allows us to circulate new book donations through the barn so that it’s always a new experience every month.

Holiday Tour of Homes Raises $20,000 The money raised from the tour benefits the Friends of the Milton Library, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the financial support and program enhancement of the Milton Library.
The inaugural Milton Holiday Tour of Homes was a huge success on December 10, 2016, with more than 300 people touring the homes with the assistance of over 70 volunteers and 37 sponsors and community partners helping to raise $20,000 before expenses to benefit Friends of the Milton Library. The Tour featured five “classically Milton” homes stunningly decorated for the holidays. Each home was carefully selected and kept secret before the Tour. The homes were revealed to ticketholders during the Tour -- providing an element of anticipation and surprise. The tickets for the tour sold out in less than 10 minutes. Robert Meyers, chair of the Milton Holiday Tour of Homes committee and board member of the Friends of the Milton Library, said: “We were overjoyed at the response of the community for this tour,” said Meyers. “With such interest and success, we hope to expand our tour next year.” Many local sponsors supported the inaugural event, including: The Craft Dolan Team at Keller Williams Realty Consultants, Scottsdale Farms, Urban Farmhouse, Edward Jones – Marsha Spear, Georgia Associated Realty, Milton Montessori, Smith & Kennedy Builders, State Farm – Daniel Lauger, The Cueny Team at Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International Realty, Windward Law Group, Andrea Costa Studio, Bryan Home Planning, Indigo Restaurant, Jamison Private Wealth Management, Lori Rohs Designs, Milton Business Alliance, Morrow Family Medicine, Olde Blind Dog Irish Pub, SuperSlow Zone, William B. Orkin Foundation, Alpharetta & Old Milton County Historical Society, Brickmont
Assisted Living, Casa Nuova Restaurant, Huntington Learning Center Alpharetta, Isabelle Gautier's Art, Milton Chiropractic, Private Bank of Buckhead, Providence Bank, Hennessy Transportation and Whitetail Bicycles & Coffee Shop. We also had seven Community Partners, people who provided goods in kind: Appen Media Group, Birmingham United Methodist Church, Cheeses & Mary, Donna Savas Digital Creations, Halyard Health, Latitude34 Public Relations and Nothing Bundt Cakes. The money raised from the tour benefits the Friends of the Milton Library, a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to the financial support and program enhancement of the Milton Library. Some of the library programs supported by the Friends of the Milton Library include: STEM and STEAM programs, Lego Club, Astronomy Club program supplies, chess boards and timers, Teen Advisory Board meetings, Youth Book Club, Wildlife Program, Children’s Music Performance, Atlanta Audubon Youth programs, Summer Reading, and others. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to our Holiday Tour of Homes committee members: Bob Meyers, Lara Dolan, Tracey Craft, Kim Hirsch, Judy Burds, Marsha Spear, Amanda Quintana, Cindy Eade, Bill Lusk, Jack Lindon, Betsy Lowery, Francia Lindon, Pat Miller, Donna Savas, Pat Check, Karen Thurman, and Kim Gauger for their time and dedication in making this event such a phenomenal success. Volunteering with the FOML The Friends of the Milton Library (FOML) is an organization built on volunteering. FOML is pleased to welcome new volunteers at any time. Our volunteers have been and continue to be the life blood of our organization. They man the book store, sort incoming books each Monday, organize the shelves in the Historic Barn and provide much needed assistance on sales days. If you are interested in volunteering with the FOML, please contact Leslie Fanuzzi at fomlvolunteers@gmail.com. You may also request a volunteer application from the library desk. Please specify that you would like to volunteer with the Friends. The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System requires all FOML volunteers complete the Volunteer Application found on their web site at www.afpls.org/volunteer. If you
have not yet submitted this paperwork, please do so at your earliest convenience. BARN BOOK SALES (Monthly, 2nd Saturdays) Volunteers are available to assist customers in finding books and shelving donations during the sales. You may be asked to sit in the library book store during the barn sales so that both locations are staffed. BOOK SORTING (Mondays from 10am-12pm) Volunteers may be required to do light lifting to move books around from the donation bin to the shelves. These volunteers also identify books that may be “Found Treasures” to be researched. Although there is heat and air available in the barn, Monday mornings can be brisk. INTERNET BOOK SALES The FOML is looking for a volunteer to spearhead efforts to sell donated books online. Please contact fomlvolunteers@gmail. com if you are interested.
