Connects Business to Youth Sports

From a Roswell High School graduate to the business world and back to Roswell, Tai Anderson has developed his brand on a national platform. But he never once considered cutting his ties to Roswell. His brand, TaiSpeak, originated from his involvement with the four-time Grammy winning band, Third Day. Known as “the business guy” among his bandmates, Tai found his passions for all things business and went on to pursue a career in the world of marketing. From this avenue, he engaged in blogging and realized he enjoyed not only public speaking, but also writing. Now, his involvement in Roswell incorporates all of the above, and he’s aiming to reach the great city of Roswell through TaiSpeak. After recognizing his passion for blogging, Tai tested out his skills following the high school football state championships, in which both the Roswell Hornets and the Blessed Trinity Titans competed for their respective divisions. Seeing the Roswell community in a sea of green at the Georgia Dome cheering on their students created such a sense of unity that he blogged about how to keep that same spirit alive in the city. From this post onward, Tai earned recognition for his blog and continued to stay deeply involved with his writing and Roswell. As his blog took off, Tai engaged in broadcasting podcasts as a way to reach the community, along with his other involvements. His podcasts have since grown into two divisions, CeoSpeak and TaiSpeak. Each series caters to its own audience and continues to attract listeners of all backgrounds. Beginning with TaiSpeak, he met with interesting people in the community and invited them onto his podcast. Discussions with figures such as the Police Chief of Roswell after the fatal shootings in Dallas truly engaged the public who yearned for more. He targets local issues in local cities becauses he does not Roswell to be the next big news story. “Our community is not divided. I don’t feel that division here like the news discusses, and I want to make sure we keep it that way,” Tai said. As a blogger, a businessman, a podcast advocate, and a football dad, Tai began to recognize a tie between all of his passions. While watching his three sons compete on their age-specific youth football

teams in Roswell Park, he recognized that, perhaps, football could be one avenue that truly brings the community together on every level. He chose to become involved in other ways than spectating by becoming a member of the Board for Roswell Park. Tai centers so much of his life around the park and football that he now announces Saturday games for youth football and is also on the Youth Football and Cheer Board working on player safety. As the announcer, Tai does more than just bluntly describe the play-by-plays. He makes it enjoyable and engaging for the crowd, so much so that he even introduces a healthy dose of sarcasm. With remarks about creating a fun environment for the kids, letting the coaches coach, and not focusing so much on the score but about the atmosphere, Tai has created a new sense of perspective to football in the park. He believes we’re all neighbors in a beautiful city enjoying sports with our kids, and he wants that to be outwardly portrayed. “I don’t want the division that’s so talked about today to come to Roswell, and I believe youth sports could be that catalyst,” Tai said. As he keeps up with his blogging, announcing and involvement, Tai is also the president of the Atlanta Chapter of the Recording Academy for the Grammys, working to give back to music and growing the industry in the state by hopefully bringing a musical expansion to the city of Roswell. He’s also now working more on his CeoSpeak podcast, as he realizes his neighbors are making a world impact straight out of Roswell. He discusses how CEO’s want to tell their stories in other ways than just through numbers on a spreadsheet, so he’s giving them just the way to do so. “We have so much potential in Roswell, including the schools, the parks, and the people, and we need to grow them smartly,” Tai said. “I believe we can be one of the best places to live in the country.”

Singing groups of all sizes, ages and abilities are needed to participate—from civic groups and schools, to religious organizations and local businesses. Heroes & Helpers

The Roswell Police Department has partnered for four years with Target for Heroes and Helpers. Heroes and Helpers takes place this year on December 3rd. This is an event Roswell Police put on which provides Christmas gifts for local children. Each child will receive a $150 Target gift card that allows them to purchase Christmas gifts. Roswell Police Officers accompany the children throughout the store to help them with their shopping. This year marks the second year that the Roswell Police Department will raise money through our internal fundraiser called Brave Beards and Fearless Fingers. If the employee donates, they get to do one of three things. The uniformed personnel get to grow beards or paint their fingernails and civilian employees get to wear jeans on Fridays. Thanks to the generosity of the Roswell Police Department and Roswell City employees, we are able to assist 40 local underprivileged elementary school children with having a great Christmas holiday. Not sure who will have more fun, the kids or the officers!

Roswell Charity Helps Break Cycle of Exploitation and Violence against Defenseless, Voiceless Young Women

While the world stands horrified at the kidnapping of more than 200 young girls in Nigeria by the terrorist group, Boko Haram, and rapes and deaths of women in India and Pakistan, “Forgotten Girls: Stories of Hope and Courage” provides critical insight and context for understanding the issues related to the oppression of women and girls in the developing world. Women and girls comprise more than 60 percent of the world’s illiterate, 80 percent of the world’s trafficked and 98 percent of all sex slaves. Millions of females suffer a lifetime of violence and injustice. Moved to compassion by these realities, Michele Rickett, co-author of “Forgotten Girls” with Kay Marshall Strom, and founder of She Is Safe (www.sheissafe.org), traveled to some of the most high-risk places to tell the individual stories of women and girls mired in the seemingly unbreakable chain of exploitation. Along the way, she also discovered women and girls rising above their circumstances and paving new roads to hope and freedom. “The book tells stories of abused and enslaved girls who have overcome injustices and provides important action steps to address the conditions that leave girls vulnerable to being sold.”

Michele Rickett, Roswell resident and Founder and President of Roswell-based She Is Safe has led international outreach for over 20 years. Her life mission was born out of experiences living and working in Africa as a young missionary, where she learned that girls were often kept home to work, marry or be sold. In the mid-90s, as a young wife and mother, Michele began sharing with people about the abuse and slavery of girls in the developing world. This drew together a group of caring individuals; and they formed the initial board of directors with the mission to prevent, rescue and restore girls from these abuses in high risk, least reached places (red light districts, refugee camps, slums, garbage dump communities…) The focus of their efforts is in the busiest human trafficking corridor in the world. Yet, they also work to raise awareness and advocacy here in the US, as well. She Is Safe partnered recently with Scooter’s Coffee in Roswell to invite girls to a Tea Party for International Day of the Girl, raise awareness and funds to give girls and boys around the world safety training and a hotline number for help. Their Pantaloons and Protections project provides underthings for little girls who have none. Girls received a Paper Doll book to learn about girls around the globe and how SIS can help them stay safe and know they are loved. They have 21 people on staff: country directors, sector specialists, administrative personnel to help us benefit at least 15,000 individual women and girls each year. sheissafe.org

Fighting Breast Cancer Your age, lifestyle and family play role in prevention By Dr. Amelia B. Zelnak

THERE IS NO MAJIC FORMULA that predicts who will be diagnosed with breast cancer and no one is absolutely not at risk for breast cancer. Breast cancer is typically most treatable when it is detected at earlier stages, so breast screening is a very important part of a woman’s health care plan. Most people don’t know that about 80 percent of people diagnosed with breast cancer do not have a relative who had the disease. That’s why it’s so important to get yearly check-ups and mammograms for anyone over the age of 40. Two easy ways to reduce your risk for breast cancer •Eat healthy •Stay fit

The most well-known examples are the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes; however additional breast cancer genes have been discovered as well. A harmful genetic mutation can be inherited from a mother or father. Each child of a parent who carries a mutation in one of these genes has a 50 percent chance (or 1 in 2) of also inheriting the mutation. Therefore, genetic testing is not just information for one person, but a whole family. Anyone considering testing should first speak with their doctor who can refer them to a genetic counselor, so all of the implications of testing can be discussed. Age is an important risk factor The time for average risk women to begin having yearly mammograms is age 40, but some doctors recommend beginning earlier depending on certain factors, like family history.

Because breast cancer has been associated with obesity, watching your diet and exercising are great lifestyle changes anyone can make (and they have benefits for other aspects of women’s health as well!)

Although mammograms don’t prevent breast cancer, statistics show that by screening for breast cancers and detecting them at the earliest possible point, they can lower the risk of a woman dying of breast cancer by 35 percent in women over the age of 50.

Family History If a woman does have a family history of breast cancer, her risk may be increased so she has several options to learn more.

Throughout the last 38 years, the city of Roswell has seen updated housing, renovated roadways, additional dining options and so much more. In 1979, the Tolbert Yilmaz School of Dance created a unique dance experience and has since continued flourishing through 2016. Founded by Nancy Tolbert Yilmaz and Mary Lynn Taylor, the Tolbert Yilmaz School of Dance encompasses all avenues of dance from the heart of our precious, history-driven city. As a native of Roswell, Nancy Tolbert Yilmaz grew up among the dancing scene and has since thrived by incorporating her passion into a full-time career. “I have been dancing since I was three,” Nancy said. “I love what I do. It really is my dream job.” With such passion in place from the very beginning, the Tolbert Yilmaz School of Dance provides dancers of every age and skill level with a chance to excel at their desired rate. The school offers everything from summer camps for those testing the scene to a pathway to a professional dance career. From classes at their Roswell location to their pre-professional company: the Roswell Dance Theatre, 25 faculty members with proven results teach classes as some of the best in the business. Each class emphasizes that dance can be a rewarding and fulfilling experience and can contribute to physical development, posture, confidence and discipline. By audition only, the Theatre selects dancers who portray an all-around knowledge and comfort in ballet, pointe, jazz, lyrical and modern dance. The Theatre’s students utilize their skills in their classes and throughout the year at wide-scale performances for city-wide and national audiences. In its 28th year, this year’s Nutcracker performance by the Roswell Dance Theatre will showcase updated props, costumes, backdrops and the like for its annual two-week premier. As the largest and oldest Nutcracker performance in North Atlanta, over 350 cast members contribute to a total of 12 shows at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center from November 25 through December 3.

Girl Scouts anticipate their premier showing with backstage tours, and children enjoy activities like face painting and Santa greetings at their character breakfast and Sugar Plum Tea. Beginning from one annual show in 1988 to its current 12, The Nutcracker is a staple-piece among Roswell’s dance scene. Children from five years old through professional adult dancers contribute their time and passions towards the show’s production. The convenience of free parking and ease-of-entry at the Arts Center allow guests to return year after year for an impressive and astounding holiday performance. Other performances from the Roswell Dance Theatre include the upcoming Spring 2017 production of Sleeping Beauty, directed by Tracey Bayly, and eight public showings of the open school students’ End of the Year Recitals. Students also travel throughout the year, including during the first week of May when the Roswell Dance Theatre performs at the National Festival for Regional Dance America in Phoenix, AZ. The Roswell Dance Theatre has seen its time among many premier events, including the 1996 Olympics, the 2008 Super Bowl, and even some international dance endeavors to Spain, Australia and other incredible locations. Benefit concerts, like this year’s “Hugs from Young Choreographers,” which allowed 100% of the proceeds to fund Camp Grace, a charity for underprivileged children to attend summer camp. “Hugs” is directed and founded by Associate Director Mary Lynn Taylor and is the fall showcase that highlights the talents of the senior dancers at Roswell Dance Theatre by creating original choreography to perform with their selection of costumes, lighting and cast. With a full-time schedule, the Tolbert Yimaz School of Dance and the Roswell Dance Theatre absolutely utilizes the yearround curriculum to promote a professional atmosphere. Looking ahead, the Tolbert Yimaz School of Dance will be relocating to a new location in 2018 at the corner of Houze Road and Houze Way. The new space will double the size of the current site and host all that the current facility offers, plus more. With eight fully-equipped studios with custom- built sprung floors, high ceilings and state-of-the-art sound systems, along with a kitchen, dressing rooms, conference rooms, after-school rooms, costume room and internal viewing system for parents, the new building will offer all of these features and more. “We just ran out of space here,” Nancy Tolbert Yimaz said. “It’s a great problem to have!” Nancy credits the success of the school and the Roswell Dance Theatre to the Roswell community. Twisted Tinsel The City of Roswell’s Southern Trilogy—consisting of Barrington Hall, Bulloch Hall, and Smith Plantation—is hosting its 2nd Annual Twisted Tinsel Holiday Spectacular on Saturday, December 5 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The three Historic Homes will celebrate the holiday season with wacky winter activities at this free, family-friendly event. Visitors will have the opportunity to ride a trolley between the three antebellum mansions and participate in crazy games and enjoy holiday treats and twisted entertainment. Likewise, at the Chattahoochee Nature Center, the holidays are in full swing, with several community events to celebrate. On Dec. 3, the CNC will hold its annual “Back to Nature Holiday Market,” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event is free to the public to attend, as a holiday gift to the community. Included in the market, beyond the holiday cheer, are over 40 local vendors who will bring their hand-made, unique and eco-friendly gifts. This includes all kinds of art, jewelry, candles, children’s gifts, bath products, food and more. Guests should note there is no ATM on the CNC property, and

Selling a home over the holidays was once considered the height of folly. Everyone knows that spring is selling season… right? There may have been some truth to that in the past, but this year is different. And here’s why:

Demand exploded early this year and drove price increases unseen since 2006. Why? The economy is improving and buyers who have been waiting for the recovery decided to move. Claudia and Mayor Wood Host Christmas Party The “public-private” event is December 1st; and their co-hosts are Bob Hagan and Carol Abreu.

Roswell’s Mayor Jere Wood and First Lady Claudia Wood open their home to the City of Roswell during the holidays to celebrate not only the season, but also the community of Roswell. For the fourth year in a row, their co-hosts are their Roswell neighbors, Bob Hagan and Carol Abreu. Together, they will host a Christmas party on December 1, 2016 from 6-10 pm that is both a private event and open to the public via reservation. “We love to have as much community involvement as we can,” Claudia said. With enjoyable cuisine and cocktails available, all in attendance are sure to relish the evening and kickstart their holidays in an upscale and welcoming fashion with their neighbors. Each year’s event is themed with decor and dining. Roswell High School’s string orchestra always performs for guests for an evening that’s as memorable as your family’s holiday traditions. All funds accumulated through Bowties, BBQ and Brew will assist three local charities, two of which are the Roswell Handicap Field and the Child Development Association (CDA.) CDA is an organization close to the hearts of Claudia and Bob, both of whom serve on the board. In yet another unique event, the Woods hosted an art show, “An evening in Paris,” featuring the European style landscapes and portraits of Paris artist Anthony Palliser. The event raised over $7,500 in funds to the Roswell Handicap Field. Also slated for spring 2017 will be a “birthday bash” to honor Malone Dodson, former Minister of Roswell United Methodist Church, one of Georgia’s largest United Methodist congregations. Known throughout Roswell for his incredible passion and earnestness, Dodson’s 80th birthday will kick-off the 2017 seasonal soirees and will benefit the local charity of CDA. Mayor Wood and Claudia both anticipate and envision a fast-paced and memorable year, as they intend to showcase Roswell and bring the city together in support of the community and local charities.

Dogs with Thunder Phobia or

“STORM DOGS”

Many dog owners wonder why their pet becomes so nervous and sometimes even frantic during a thunderstorm. “STORM DOGS” have varying degrees of nervousness during storms. Some dogs may just feel the need to be closer to their owners. Others may pace and pant. Some pets literally PANIC and freak out during a storm. Many clients have told stories of their dog tearing up furniture, digging through sheetrock, shredding carpeting and some pets have even broken through windows as the panic escalates in a storm. This type of behavior usually happens when owners are away during a thunderstorm. Thunder Phobia is not uncommon and most pets don’t grow out of it. Many times pets will actually develop this issue as they get older. Certain breeds that display higher levels of separation anxiety, or pets with more nervous tendencies seem to be more affected. No one really knows all of the causes or triggers that cause this panic in a storm but many pets may start to be uneasy before there is any sign of a thunderstorm. Many speculate that it is a change in barometric pressure that the dog may sense which starts the nervousness. Then the thunder begins in the distance and the pet becomes more nervous. Then the high winds loud

claps of thunder and lightening begin and this is usually when the pet hits panic mode. Some experts say that a pets coat may actually pick up the static from the electrical storm and create shocking sensations. Many pets that are scared in a storm are also afraid of backfiring cars, gun shots and fireworks, which lead many to think it is just more of a fear of loud noises. It is very difficult to find a remedy when you have a pet that panics during a storm. First of all, a well trained pet that listens to your command is a benefit. Babying the pet during this kind of behavior may only encourage the same behavior next time a storm rolls around. Having a special place for your dog, such as a crate that you can cover with a blanket may be helpful in making your pet feel more secure. Many clients have to resort to medications that will sedate the pet or use Benadryl in a higher dosage to create a drowsy affect so the dog is not so panicky. Always consult your veterinarian for proper dosing of any medication. Several years ago a product known as the thunder coat came out for pets. Many clients use them and like the affect they get when there pet is in panic mode during a storm. The best way to possibly remedy this problem is slow methodical conditioning. Starting at a very young age and remaining consistent. Using a hair dryer starting on low and working your way up so your dog gets used to the sound. Walking your dog near an area where there is car noise. Getting your pet as used to as many sounds and loud noises as possible may help condition your pet away from this behavior. There is no perfect explanation or solution but Thunder phobia is not pleasant for the pets or their owner.

Although true, we do specialize in treating many back relating issues, but it's not solely the back itself that we are concerned with. Under the skin and muscles of the back are your back bones (spinal column) which house and protect your life line-the SPINAL CORD. Pickled Pink Foods Jim Lawlor is the man behind the curtain of local gourmet food company, Pickled Pink Foods. Jim and

his partner, Charlie Stephenson, were inspired to start the business in 2013 with the discovery of some old Southern pickling recipes passed down from Charlie’s family in Alabama. When a friend at the Southern Living test kitchen said, “They’re old fashioned, southern and there are not a lot like them on the market,” the pair decided to ramp up. They were off and rolling after receiving orders from 93 clients in 19 states for their flagship Sweet Gourmet Pickles at their first trade show in Atlanta.

You can find Pickled Pink products for your upcoming holiday relish tray at your favorite locavore outlets like Cheeses and Mary, Wilbur and Rudy’s, and Roswell Hardware. The brand is also available nationally in The Fresh Market, the southeastern region of the Sprouts chain, and over 2,500 other retail distribution points in the US, Canada, and the UK. Pickled Pink sounds like a big operation. But, surprisingly, it has only two full time employees…Lawlor as the daily do-it-all operator, and Stephenson providing financial accounting and marketing support. The company uses a local co-packer to assist in jarring the product, as well as to scale up Gramma’s original recipes. But it is Lawlor himself that orchestrates operations and pushes growth of the Pickled Pink empire out of a small office right here in Roswell. Pickled Pink is also “Pickled for a Purpose.” A portion of all profits goes to Hunter’s Hotline (www.huntershotline. org). Stephenson’s family established the non-profit charity in honor of his son, who passed away in 2004.

Foundation Social Eatery’s Chef and Owner Mel Toledo also kind to share his wonderful recipe for Roasted brussels sprouts and sherry bacon vinaigrette.

CRANBERRY KUMQUAT 6 ounces kumquats quartered lengthwise and seeds removed 20 ounces fresh cranberries 1.5 cups sugar 1 cup honey 2 cups water

ROASTED BRUSSELS SPROUTS 1 Cup small diced bacon 1 Cup small diced shallot 1 TBSP rosemary and thyme, finely chopped ¼ Cup sherry vinegar ¼ Cup maple syrup 2 TBSP EVOO 5 Cups brussels sprouts, roasted 2 TBSP toasted bread crumbs

Bring sugar, honey and water up to a boil in a sauce pot. Add kumquats and cook them till the skin is translucent. Using a slotted spoon remove kumquats from the sugar water. Add cranberries and turn heat down to a simmer. Cook until the cranberries become soft. About 11 minutes. Add kumquats and chill till ready to use. Slowly cook bacon until crispy, render out bacon fat. Remove and reserve bacon. Sautee shallots, rosemary, & thyme in the rendered bacon fat, cook until tender. Add crispy bacon back to the pan. Add sherry vinegar and maple syrup. Bring to a boil. Add EVOO, toss with roasted brussels sprouts. Top with toasted bread crumbs. I love the winter holidays. But like many, enjoying parties or hosting holiday dinners sometimes get lost in the crush of too much to do and not enough time to do it. However, it’s important to take time to establish and continue traditions, especially for families with children. In the same way that children enjoy watching the same movies over and over again because they are confident in the outcome, traditions provide a sense of security to us all. Cooking holiday dinners is a perfect way to continue traditions while expressing love for friends, family, co-workers and customers. On Christmas Eve, many customers prepare a traditional Italian dinner called The Feast of Seven Fishes. And, it’s just that – an incredible dinner featuring seven different kinds of fish. Each year, my daughter Sara and I help customers plan their menu around the eclectic selection of fresh seafood available at Kathleen’s Catch Fresh Fish Markets. While it may sound intimidating, we can get that seafood count up to seven in just a few dishes. Seafood spreads, shrimp trays and raw oysters for appetizers are ready-made from Kathleen’s Catch. A seafood stew can take a few different species (white fish and oysters), and a Paella or Cioppino dish gets that number up to seven in a hurry! The tradition of eating seafood on Christmas Eve began back in ancient Rome as a Catholic fast prohibiting eating red meat before Christmas Day. Today, the Feast of Seven Fishes is part of our modern culture spanning many faiths for several reasons; two important ones being that fish is a high-protein, low carb food, and fish is quick and easy to prepare! Local Business Helps End Hunger

at Crabapple Middle

A local business is doing its part to help hungry families at one Roswell area school. VENZA, a company that delivers security solutions to the hospitality industry collected food for an organization at Crabapple Middle School called Huskies Helping Huskies (HHH). “Quarterly, the VENZA team fires up the grill and plays hooky on a Friday afternoon to celebrate our relationships and the great work we do together,” explained Daniel Johnson, VENZA Chief Operations Officer. “Our company works to never lose sight of how fortunate we are. It’s for that reason each of our gatherings incorporates an element of community stewardship.” “To simply receive the abundant donation VENZA bestowed on our students is heartwarming at a minimum and a reminder of why our community is so special,” said Becky Nelson, Executive Director of Huskies Helping Huskies. Nelson says the non-profit’s biggest focus is on families who do not have sustainable food for the weekends and holidays. “It is hard to attend and be attentive when you are hungry,” said Nelson. For this month’s BBQ, VENZA employees collected non-perishable food items such as snacks, pasta, canned goods, peanut butter and more. “We hope our contributions to Huskies Helping Huskies will bring relief to those in need,” added Johnson.

INTERNATIONAL ROSWELL CELEBRATING THE SEASON

In Roswell, we celebrate so many diverse religious and cultural traditions and faiths. Faith is a big part of who we are at Roswell Magazine. This time of year, we take the time to honor all of our neighbors’ special holiday celebrations! ROSWELL JEWS celebrate Hanukkah later than usual this year! Hanukkah 2016 begins December 24 and ends in the evening of Sunday, January 1st. The first candle of the menorah is lit at nightfall of December 24th. Hanukkah is an eight-day festival of light that begins on the eve of the Jewish month of Kislev and celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, of purity over adulteration, of spirituality over materiality. More than twenty-one centuries ago, the Holy Land was ruled by Syrian-Greeks. A small band of Jews defeated them and reclaimed their Temple. When they sought to light the Temple’s menorah (seven branched candelabrum) they found only a single cruse of olive oil. Miraculously, the one-day supply burned for eight days, until new oil could be prepared under conditions of ritual purity. Local Jews and their families celebrate for eight days, giving gifts each day. Children get excited and Jews celebrate many activities around town. Roswell Jews attend service at Temple Beth Tikvah on Coleman Road and Congregation Beth Hallel on Pine Grove Rd.

THE ISLAMIC NEW YEAR- also known as Hijri New Year, is the day that marks the beginning of a new Islamic calendar year and is the day on which the year count is incremented. The first day of the year is observed on the first day of Muharram, the first month of the calendar. The first Islamic year begins in 622 AD, with the emigration of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina, known as the Hijra. All religious duties such as prayer, fasting in the month of Ramadan, and pilgrimage---and the dates of significant events such as celebration of holy nights and festivals--are calculated according to the lunar calendar. A day in the Islamic calendar begins at sunset. This year, the Islamic New Year began October 3rd. Happy

HINDUS CELEBRATE a religious holiday in December called

Pancha Ganapati, which is a five-day holiday that honors Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed lord of culture and new beginnings. The celebration begins Dec. 21 and includes outings, picnics, feasts and gift giving. Pancha Ganapati includes traditions that are similar to Christmas traditions. Families put up a statue of Ganesha and decorate their homes with pine boughs, or durva grass, tinsel, blinking lights and ornaments. Children dress the statue in different-colored clothes for each day of the celebration. Each color, including yellow, blue, red, green and orange, represents a different aspect of the holiday. Many Hindu families in Alpharetta also join in Christmas festivities, including parties and gift-giving so that children do not feel left out of the most-celebrated national holiday in the US. And, in India, which has the largest population of Hindus in the world, Christmas is actually a national holiday, celebrated as a festival by many Hindus around the world. In Roswell, many of our Hindu neighbors worship at Hanuman Mandir, located at 390 Cumming Street.

CHRISTIANS celebrate Christmas for one day, on December

25th, which is the birth of Christ. Jesus Christ was born in a manger in Bethlehem to the virgin Mary and her betrothed Joseph, as prophesied by the archangel Gabriel. Jesus is the savior of all of humanity, not just Christians. His life and miraculous works are documented in the Bible and through Church tradition passed down over 2000 years. American culture celebrates Christmas in a big way----it’s the biggest holiday of the year in the US. Much of Christmas has been commercialized but many devout Christians maintain the holiness of the birth of Christ by simplifying the gift-giving, attending Mass and worship services, and by passing down family traditions and the story of the life of Christ to their children. Roswell Christians worship at numerous Catholic, Methodist, Protestant, Baptist and other churches throughout the area. See page 46 for a full list of local churches.
