MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
A
s entrepreneur and business leader I’m always looking for ways to improve my success at work or business. I’ve learned early in my career that setting goals is essential for success. When you order at a restaurant, you’re not going to give the waitress a vague idea of the food you’re ordering. You’re going to provide her with precise information. “I want the hamburger with tomato sauce.” It’s the same with successful goal setting. Tell yourself what you want, and get specific. The key is setting clear goals for yourself and then implementing a plan to achieve them. That requires planning, thinking and action. I’ll share with you some key elements of successful goal setting that I’ve learnt over the years. Brian Tracy, American author and life coach has been one of my biggest success inspirations says: “It doesn’t matter where you are coming from. All that matters is where you are going.” - Brian Tracy
What should you do if you miss a timeline for achieving a task or a goal? First of all, you can celebrate the fact that you have been setting personal goals and that you have a goal plan that has required you to establish written timelines. If you miss a deadline, make sure you take time to understand why it was missed. Was it realistic in the first place? Was the designated timeline too overreaching? Could it be that you allowed too many smaller rocks, or grains of sand, to get in the way of you focusing your attention on the big rocks? Life is complex, and sometimes life just happens. Life tends to “happen” more often when you have a spouse and children that also require your time. This is an unavoidable fact of life, but it doesn’t have to bring us down. Rather, we can work to put things into their proper perspective to ensure that when life does happen and we miss a time target, we simply acknowledge it, assess how we might avoid it in the future, and then quickly press forward.

Andro Engelbrecht
This is your life, and these are your goals. Yes, the goals you have set are important and your ability to make continuous progress on your goals is paramount. However, one missed time target won’t make the sky fall and the sun will once again rise in the morning. “If you’re bored with life -- you don’t get up every morning with a burning desire to do things -- you don’t have enough goals.”- Lou Holtz. The vast majority of successful people are also very goal-oriented and effective personal goal setting first and foremost depends on one’s belief that he or she can learn and grow to become his or her best self. Successful goal setting also depends on one’s ambition to pursue a dream or goal to the very end; one’s persistence and determination to squarely focus on what it is that is truly important to them. At the most basic level goal setting provides a means for determining what you want out of life; how you want to spend the next 30 days, 1 year or even an entire lifetime. People who invest the time necessary to create solid goal plans are more fulfilled in life and possess more confidence in their ability to meet the challenges in front of them AND suffer less from stress and anxiety because they know deep inside that they are prepared. Personal goal setting effectively lessens stress and allows us to pursue our dreams with the confidence of a warrior. Courses about goal setting stipulates that it is important that your goals are smart, or S.M.A.R.T., meaning Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely. Our personal motivation to achieve anything is greatly dependent upon our sincere interest in the subject matter, and our true desire to engage and commit ourselves to the process. As a result, it should not surprise anyone when they fail in a job or a business venture that they really
never liked or aspired to in the first place. In addition to Passion, one additional item that is absolutely necessary for setting a quality goal is that you MUST write it down and place it in a spot that you will see daily. By keeping our goals literally within our sight, we dramatically increase the chance of achieving our dreams. Remember, whatever it is that you focus on, will tend to expand. So keep your goals close by so that you will naturally gravitate toward your end result. More than just a goal setting theory, to be successful you should identify the various categories of your life and determine which ones to set goals in. “In life, as in football, you won’t go far unless you know where the goalposts are.” - Arnold H. Glasgow As you continue the goal setting process, it’s imperative that you identify each of the most important areas of your life. Working on goals in only one key area will only work to lessen the overall balance you feel in your life. Any area of your life that you ignore will become the source of your greatest regrets. If you ignore your finances, then financial disaster will eventually visit you. If you ignore your personal health, you leave yourself open to disease, malnutrition and loss of muscle and bone density. Too often we put everything we have into our profession at the expense of the quality time we could be spending with our family and friends. Like we said, this goal setting process is more than just goal setting theory. In order to avoid an unbalanced life experience, we need to consider establishing life goals in every major category of our life. While every person must ultimately decide their own life categories, I’ve discovered seven key life categories that you should consider: 1. Physical Body Goals 2. Spiritual Goals 3. Emotional Goals 4. Family Goals 5. Friends Goals 6. Financial Goals 7. Professional Goals Under each of the above life categories, ask yourself if you are fully satisfied and currently experiencing the level of fulfillment that you desire right now. If not, then begin to assess the category for what needs to change and for what you can do immediately to begin the process of improving this area of your life. “Set your goals high, and don’t stop until you get there.” - Bo Jackson If left at rest, the purest of water will eventually become stagnant. Along the same vein, the most talented and able individual f not continually pushing
to learn and grow, will undoubtedly begin to diminish in strength and vitality. We must start out each day with determination to improve upon the day before. Commit us to leave our office, our home or our other places of interest just a little better off than they were the day before. “Goals are dreams with deadlines.” - Diana Scharf Hunt Time, what is time? Most people see time as nothing more than a short hand and a long hand on the face of a clock. They simply give it no more thought, since it’s obviously something they can’t change. Or can they? Change it, that is. What we can change is how we see time. Have you ever heard the phrase, “Time flies when you’re having fun?” or “It’s about time he showed up!” Okay, now read each phrase above again and ask yourself which emotion it invokes in you. When you talk about time going by quickly because you are having a good time, it makes you feel good. However, when you hear that someone’s late and causing you to wait for them, it invokes feelings of anger or resentment. In either case, time didn’t change, it still moved forward at the same rate, one second at a time. However, based on the emotion we attached to Time, our body language, our facial expressions and even our heart rate changed to correlate with the emotion. When you look at time in this sense, you realize that you can choose how you perceive time in your life. As a result, you can also better determine how you choose to spend your own time. This idea is about more than just goal setting, it’s about living a quality life. By using a quality goal setting program you can ensure that you spend maximum time doing the things that make you happy and than invoke position feelings versus feelings of regret or dread. “My philosophy of life is that if we make up our mind what we are going to make of our lives, then work hard toward that goal, we never lose - somehow we win out.”- Ronald Reagan If we could only make our highest moment’s permanent, what amazing things we could achieve in life, and what magnificent beings we could become. Unfortunately, we to often allow our persistence to cool and as a result our visions for the future fade until eventually they are gone forever. Men and women who postpone their visions, who delay the execution of their ideas, who bottle up their thoughts, to be used at a more convenient time, always lose out in the game of life. The forceful, vigorous, effective men and women are those who execute their ideas while they are full of enthusiasm and inspiration.

LEADERSHIP:
PERSONAL LEADERSHIP PRECEDES ORGANISATIONAL LEADERSHIP SOME INSIGHTS THAT WILL PROVOKE THOUGHT.
YOU ARE BORN TO LEAD
Every leader is born, but not everyone born becomes a leader. Right now, right this minute, you have the potential to be a great leader. You have been positioned for this very responsibility. It flows in your veins, waiting to be unleashed, tapped into and expressed. You are so well prepared for this role that it is easy for you to recognize both good and bad leadership styles or behaviour in others. You frequently feel that you could do things better if you were just given the opportunity to lead. Here is the key; Personal Leadership precedes Organisational Leadership. Great leadership begins with your ability to lead yourself. Its all about what you do daily to overcome the temptation to give up on any and all things you set yourself to do that qualifies you to lead others. Its about being able to finish what you start. Be like a postage stamp, stay stuck until the job is done. In what areas do you need to develop your personal leadership?
YOU ARE LOVE
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind and love all mankind as you would yourself... This song, which I learnt while attending a Baptist Youth Group during my university years

in Durban, South Africa, was very participative and a lot of fun to sing. Despite remembering the words and sometimes singing it while walking to lectures, I missed a key message. I missed the point that I needed to love myself in order to be able to love others. In fact, I needed to love God and accept that I was fearfully and wonderfully made in His image and likeness, and if I did, I would be equipped to love others, even my enemies. My greatest challenge is that the failures I am able to see in others are simply a reflection of my own faults. It is only when I learn to love the good in myself that I am able to see and love the good in others, however different they may be. What keeps you from loving others?
YOU ARE EXTRAORDINARY
You are Spirit, Mind and Body woven together in an extraordinary form, unique, a one-of-akind. I sense that most cultures and people groups around the planet agree with this three-in-one makeup of man. It is most commonly referred to in reverse order as Body, Mind and Spirit. This inverse order is a recipe for severe internal conflict, but if corrected, the secret to great leadership. Our ability to bring our mind and body into submission to our Spirit is the determining factor in our leadership effectiveness. When our internal order is

misaligned we find ourselves doing things we know we shouldn’t and not doing things we know we should be doing. Our body and mind seem to have demands and interests bent on destruction. If we rise up and put our spirit in leadership then it will ensure our body eats healthily and exercises regularly, and it will make certain that we look at and listen to things that provide positive input. So who is in charge in your life and why?
YOU ARE ABLE
Whatever the mind of a man can conceive and believe it is forced to achieve. Don Harvey A good friend and silent mentor, Don Harvey, passed away in 2011 after boldly facing cancer. Our journey started in 1992 when we attended a 40-day course together starting at 6am each morning. Don had moved to South Africa from Zimbabwe in the beginning of the 1980’s with his wife, six children and his Volkswagen Kombi. With literally nothing to lose, he started his life over. 30 years later he left behind a company that stretches across the country and in which each of his children plays an active role. He came with nothing, but left something behind. More importantly he spent his last years inspiring many young entrepreneurs to do what they could with what they have. His belief that everyone, regardless of their status, has a seed to sow, produced many success stories. You too have a seed. Plant it.
What do you have right now that you could and should be using?
YOU ARE DARING
From the day you were born, you were daring, continually stretching for things beyond your grasp. Keep stretching! Leadership requires that you look at the mountain; that you wonder what lies beyond the horizon; that you imagine things that never existed as if they were real. It expects of you to challenge yourself to become more of who you were born to be. The comfort zone is where people who exist, live; beyond the comfort zone is where people who really live, exist. You were born to live beyond the comfort zone. The very environments you are avoiding because of an inner feeling of inadequacy, a fear of embarrassment or the feeling of rejection could be, and probably is, the precise places in which you will experience extreme fulfillment. Push your boundaries, go where others fear to tread, break through your limitations into a world of never ending opportunity. Imagination is your door into the reality of your future. Dare to dream and be transported into a world that will exist because you did. What is keeping you from stepping out your comfort zone?
YOU ARE EQUIPPED
Nothing is ever created without the ability to fully and completely fulfill its purpose.

Gift and Talent are words used to define special abilities people have to do something well with seemingly no thought and little effort. It’s the things that come naturally to us. Others recognize these obvious abilities easily, but the bearer of the gift is often blind to it. They seem to become obsessed with or even compelled to obtain additional skills that might better qualify them for their life journey. They are lead to feel there is no place for them to express their uniqueness and go out their way to conform to the norms and standards that manifest in a life of misery where pleasure and passion are replaced with guilt, pain and the mundane.
hold you down without your permission. You will be knocked down from time to time. Your resilience will and must be tested. When the test comes, be ready to land on your back, because if you can look up, you can seethe way to get back up. And, by the way, while you are down there, make sure you learn something. Every bounce should add a little more spring. In the good times you put it in your pocket, in the tough times you put it in your heart. Use every life experience to move you closer to your dream and propel you to your destiny.

Ford Everest 2.2 XLT Test Drive

MOTORING 2018 Ford Everest 2.2 XLT affes Ford was founded in the 1920s and was kind enough to provide us with our test vehicle. The market in SA for SUVs with 4x4 capability is competitive to say the least. You are spoiled for choice, but what if you want a family orientated vehicle that is comfortable on long journeys, has some of the latest technology and also has some 4x4 capability when the road gets rough? Can the Ford Everest 2.2 XLT provide this kind of value? Read on and decide for yourself.
J
The Ford Everest 2.2 XLT variant produces 118KW and 385NM of torque. These figures might seem modest, but we found that the engine impressed with linear and smooth acceleration. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly all the way to top gear and will downshift when you put your foot down when overtaking. Fuel consumption figures of under 8 litres per 100km was achieved on our test route. For those looking for a little more overtaking power, the Everest is also available in a 3.2 XLT trim that produces 147KW and 470NM of torque.

The biggest surprise of the whole driving experience was the very comfortable ride. We noticed that the Everest handled poor quality tarred roads surprisingly well, so much so that we decided to test it out on some serious gravel roads. It is here where this Ford felt most at home. The rocky gravel road felt like a newly paved tarred road. The suspension absorbed most bumps, has excellent body control and settled itself very cleanly after going over bigger bumps. I bet you’re thinking, but what about really rough terrain? This is where Ford’s Terrain Management System™ comes in handy. Sim-

ply switch the dial to rock crawl mode and the vehicle will not leave first gear even if you reach the red line. This allows you to put down the toque much more effectively and slowly climb over the obstacle in your way. There is enough boot space to bring along most of your household content on a long trip. The opening is big and wide and has a capacity of 1050 litres, which can be increased to 2010 litres should you fold down the rear seats. Folding down the rear seats is a super easy process and takes less than a minute. The Ford Sync 3™ system impressed with a fast and accurate navigation system. The
GPS enable navigation system did not only pick up all the normal traffic routes around Worcester, but also smaller gravel roads that lead to various farms. The reverse camera is one of the best I’ve ever used, and the image is displayed clearly on the big 8-inch display screen. The XLT specification also comes with an upgraded 10-speaker audio system that everyone will enjoy on a long road trip. The Ford Sync 3™ delivers big improvements compared to the normal system you’ll find in the standard XLS specification. We believe it is worth the upgrade to one of the XLT models, even if it is just to get the Sync 3™ system.
New cars has never been cheap, but it feels as if they are just getting more and more expensive. I believe that the focus in the South African market needs to be on value and after sales service. Does Ford and the new Everest provide good value in this highly competitive SUV segment? I think it does, but go test drive one yourself and find out. A special thank you to Andries du Toit from Jaffe’s Ford for providing the test vehicle. Jaffe’s Ford, 45 High Street, Worcester central, Western Cape PH: 023 347 2601 E-mail: sales@jaffes.co.za

There’s always space for dessert at Clifftop, and you’ll be sorry if you don’t save space for crème caramel chocolate mousse and a myriad of tasty treats on offer. After a long evening’s game drive and sundowners, you’ll be ushered to your private dining area, specially selected and decorated

All washed down with some of South Africa’s tastiest, award-winning wines. GOCHEGANAS NATURE RESERVE The History of GocheGanas GocheGanas has an interesting background going back to the beginning of the century.
T
he farm “GocheGanas” is first mentioned in the archives in 1903. In April 1913 the farm was sold for 210 000 mark, and included the sale of 175 ostriches. The deed of sale specifies that the new owners, Stoermer and Denk had the obligation to farm the land and not to resell it without approval of the “Kaiserliche Gouvernement”. Failure to comply with these conditions, would result in a fine of 10 000 mark. That same year, Mr. CG Mertens forwarded a letter to the “Gouvernement” stating his intention buy to GocheGanas to breed horses, which he could not do on his farm in the Okahandja district due to the risk of horse sickness. He bought GocheGanas for the amount of 277 000 mark. During 1928 to 1936 a cheese factory was established producing gouda cheese. Many years later, Mr. I Bonadei bought the farm from Mr

The other half of the farm was sold to Mr. Udo M Stritter, who together with his son Ingo, converted this land into a game reserve. WHITE SPRING
FASHION
White is rated as the “hottest colour” for spring-summer 2018 by the TBS Crew. Elegance, innocence and new beginnings are all words whispered by white flowers in blossom. Weather you are one of the people who consider white as a beautiful colour or don’t see it as a colour at all - it is definitely a shade that you can wear 12 months a year.
A
ccording to colour psychology, white as the lightest colour means purity, innocence and integrity. It also represents perfection and new beginnings, removing any trace of past actions. Like a clean canvas, ready for that new creative expression. Wearing white garments to work is a sign that one is impartial, independent and neutral towards everything and will increase the sense of sophistication and cleanness. If you are one of those individuals who believe in superstition then according to colour psychology wearing white will: 1. Indicate the end of an old cycle in your life and the beginning of a new clean future 2. Prompt a significant change like travelling to some place new; getting a new job; starting a new relationship or activity 3. Reflect a clean and sterile environment (especially if you work as a Locum Pharmacist or Doctor) 4. Show an excellent sense of order and organisation Here are 13 ways to wear a white dress this spring according to Vogue, Paris: 1. Opt for the classic lace-embellished white dress 2 .Choose a plain cotton, button up dress with a tight fitting dark brown leather belt (be sure to leave a couple of the bottom buttons undone to show off your legs) 3. Buy a very short white mini dress with long sleeves, (roll up the sleeves when it is too warm) and pair it with camel heels 4. Fairy styled, loose elegant draping, white dresses can be paired with black sandals and natural handcrafted jewellery 5 .Pair a strappy little white number with
white ankle boots and a small clutch bag 6. Wearing an oversized white shirt (as a short dress) is also back in fashion this spring and looks elegant with camel “hippy” heels with a matching belt and clutch bag 7. If you are a rocker on weekends then cut your long ankle length white sundress into a short mini dress (do not seam it again) wear it with a black leather jacket, Moulin Rouge belt and black ankle boots 8. A plain white dress is also beautiful with side pockets that is prominently seamed and a white soft cotton belt 9. White is elegant when paired with a Louis Vuitton bag and pink platforms (swap the jewellery for a pair of pink sunglasses matching the platforms) 10. Number 10 on Vogue’s list is Lily Aldridge, with a plain white pinafore cotton dress; small black embroidered handbag, black pointy pumps and oversized black sunglasses 11. Victoria Beckham styles a white loose shirt tucked into a long body fitted ankle skirt with prominent buttons; dark brown long boots with a matching handbag and oversized sunglasses 12. A white trendy dress can also be toned down with a navy blue jacket and matching converse 13. Wear an oversized shirt dress with feminine embroidered patterns, black heels and a matching oversized handbag
Play with different styles and find what works best for your own body. Tips to keep in mind when choosing a personal dressing style: 1. Understand your body shape and dress accordingly 2. Find your signature pieces 3. Invest in items that you know you will LOCUM LIFESTYLE
