Welcome Logan Art Gallery showcases the best local and touring art, craft and design exhibitions. Be inspired by practical art workshops and exhibition talks, find beautiful, locally made artworks at the Gallery Store or the Creative Markets, and enjoy the activities in the Young Peoples Gallery. Logan Art Gallery is one of the most dynamic regional art galleries in SouthEast Queensland. We hope our new What’s On sparks your creativity and encourages you to visit. We look forward to seeing you at the gallery.

Venue hire and group bookings Logan Art Gallery, including its creative arts workshop, is available for private and community functions and events. Large groups are encouraged to call and inform us of their intended visit. Logan Art Gallery staff will provide free tours to interested groups booking at least a week in advance of their visit. Groups can also book practical activities to further enhance their visit.

Activities Meet the artists and participate in free events, activities and talks held in conjunction with the exhibition program. • All children will need to be signed in and out by a parent, adult guardian or carer. • Parents or carers are to remain with children aged seven and under.

27 January to 4 March - Exhibitions Daniel Wallwork: High gloss/low sheen: the long road to Yarrabilba Cairns-based artist Daniel Wallwork’s exhibition, based on his artist-in-residency at Yarrabilba in 2016, features a series of vibrant metallic sculptures that playfully explore and celebrate Australia’s iconic automotive culture.

Aunty Betty Flynn: Aboriginal dreaming and night skies

A selection of works where artists have featured the colour red, historically associated with danger, sacrifice, courage and passion.

Aunty Betty Flynn has drawn on her fascination of the night sky and stories of the dreamtime to create a series of brightly coloured paintings and ceramics.

Elizabeth Horrigan and Sandra Johnson: Forest floor Logan artists Elizabeth Horrigan and Sandra Johnson use natural materials and printing techniques to replicate the patterns and shapes found in nature.

Friday 3 February, 1pm to 3.30pm Make two layered feather stencils to create artworks using aerosol paints. Then make a collaborative artwork for display in the workshop foyer. 12 places. For adults and older teens. Note: Use of craft knives.

Show and shine: classic cars on show

Friday 3 February, 5pm onwards Enjoy a display of classic cars outside the gallery in conjunction with the exhibition High gloss/low sheen: the long road to Yarrabilba by Daniel Wallwork. All ages welcome (no bookings required).

Drop in session: Chasing the Moon with Pamela See

Saturday 11 February, Drop in anytime between 10am and 2pm Held in conjunction with the Chinese New Year, join artist Pamela See for this exciting lantern making event, Chasing the Moon. Public access to the printing press

Wednesday 22 February, 10am to 4pm Logan Art Gallery will provide free access to the workshop’s medium sized printing press. Experience in using a printing press is essential as this is a non-tutored session. 10 places. For adults. Bring your own print resources, special paper, Mylar board etc. and lunch.

Eco-dyeing on paper with artist Sandra Johnson

Thursday 23 February, 10am to 2.30pm Work with artist Sandra Johnson who will demonstrate eco-dyeing on paper. Learn how to produce your own prints at home using simple household tools and foraged plants. 10 places. For adults and older teens. Bring lunch. Music in the Gallery: Lock 'n Load

Saturday 25 February, 2pm to 3.30pm Join us at Logan Art Gallery for a performance by Lock ’n Load, an energetic Rockabilly, Swing and early Rock ’n Roll band who love to get people’s feet tapping and dancing to classic songs from the pioneers of these styles. 10 March to 22 April - Exhibitions Sara Irannejad: Ambiguous patterns

Jo Bone: In Depth

In Ambiguous patterns Sara Irannejad uses pyrography (wood burning) to create intricate patterns on found objects. This exhibition explores how cultural identity and one’s relationship with the environment evolve during travel and dislocation.

Jo Bone creates beautiful blown glassware inspired by found objects from the seashore, including seagrasses, sand dollars and other marine creatures.

Sha Sarwari: Silent conversation Drawing on his own experience as a refugee, Sha Sarwari has created a series of works which comment on the experience of asylum seekers and refugees in contemporary Australia.

Marine life: marbling on paper and fabric

Thursday 6 April, 2pm to 4pm Learn the ancient art of marbling on paper and fabric, and make artworks inspired by the ebb and flow of the ocean. 15 places. For ages 7 to 16 years.

Pattern making: Persian images in paint

Tuesday 11 April, 2pm to 4pm Learn about floral and geometrical designs in Persian art. Create works exploring repetition of motifs to form pattern on a variety of surfaces. 15 places. For ages 7 to 16 years.

World Environment Day posters World Environment Day posters bring together a collection of vibrant artworks designed by the City of Logan’s young artists.

Susanne Schroder: Kaleidoscope Kaleidoscope features a series of abstract textile artworks which explore the diverse microcosm of marine life that inhabits Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef.

Local Torres Strait Islander artist Sylvia Nakachi has curated this exhibition to show the influence of the Coming of the Light (London Missionary Society) on Torres Strait Islander culture and way of life. Art and Dementia Program Logan Art Gallery offers discussion-based tours of works of art for people with dementia and their carers. Facilitated by our trained volunteers, the participants are encouraged to contribute knowledge, engage in interpretation, express emotions and recall memories. Involvement in this nationwide program has been shown to increase well-being and the quality of life for participants. Contact the gallery to book a tour.

Logan Art Gallery Store The Logan Art Gallery Store has a range of unique gifts and collectables – perfect for a special occasion. Designs include textiles, ceramics, glassware, timber items, handmade jewellery, books and cards. The store is located inside the gallery and is open 10am to 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

Mother's Day Creative Markets + Music in the Gallery Enjoy Creative Markets outside the gallery where individual stall holders will present their wares including crafts, handmade clothes and sweets, plus food and drink. Pick up an individual and unique gift from the market or the Logan Art Gallery Store.

Applications for RADF grants are open! Logan City Council is accepting applications for Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grants. Arts professionals from all art forms including dance, music, design, museum and cultural heritage, new media, visual arts, writing and theatre are encouraged to apply. Applications close Tuesday 28 March. Late applications will not be considered.

Logan Artworkers Networking Events (LANE) Calling all artists, performers, writers and cultural workers Logan Artworkers Networking Events (LANE) was developed through feedback from arts practitioners wanting to establish links with each other, to help build a stronger arts community in the city and participate in vibrant local projects.

LANE is held at Logan Art Gallery and explores a variety of themes to develop and nurture creativity in the City of Logan so the community benefits socially and economically from the arts.

Jo Bone creates beautiful blown glassware inspired by objects from the seashore. This new body of work revisits her childhood love of pattern and repetition. Jo will talk about the inspiration behind her exhibition In Depth, the processes and techniques used to realise the glass sculptures, and the final pieces on display. Do you want to use your skills to enable people with disability to participate in the arts? This special program will be run by Access Arts facilitators and members who are involved in delivering either visual or performing arts workshops to people with disability. It will include practical tips on how to work with people with disability, expectations versus reality, structuring workshop sessions, monitoring and evaluating progress and managing potentially difficult situations.
