Tuesday 12th April 2016 Olympia, London

Jacks Thomas, Director, The London Book Fair A very warm welcome to you all, and welcome to the third London Book Fair Excellence Awards, organised in partnership with The Publishers Association UK, and this year sponsored by Hytex. To my mind, we can never celebrate our industry enough; the innovation, creativity, commitment, passion and sheer talent that unite the global book world are demonstrated again and again in our shortlists, across 14 categories, tonight. We hope that these awards are a one-stop showcase of how determined all those involved in books are, to get stories and knowledge into the hands of consumers, in a variety of both classical and creative ways. From charities supporting literacy initiatives, to celebrations of Shakespeare’s work, to creators of the most sophisticated app, tonight we get a chance to see the full spectrum of the flexibility and endurance of the written word. Now a firm fixture in The London Book Fair schedule, I hope you have had a chance to look at last year’s winners, who appear on the awards maps around the fair – and tonight these maps will be magically transformed into the 2016 winners! Congratulations to everybody on the shortlists and of course, the judges, who gave their time so generously and had the most difficult task in selecting winners from such a strong line-up. A huge well done and thank you from all of us involved in The London Book Fair Excellence Awards 2016.
