WELCOME

TO THIS

EDITION OF THE LONDON

It’s my pleasure to welcome you to this year’s special edition of The London.

This version is special for a few reasons. Firstly, as you may already know, the club celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2024. It’s been three decades since our courses – designed by Jack Nicklaus and Ron Kirby, under the banner of Nicklaus design – were officially opened on a warm summer’s day in Kent. Three decades since former owner Mr. Masao Nagahara’s vision to build a world-class golf venue just outside of London was first realised. Three decades since Nicklaus, Seve Ballesteros and Tony Jacklin became the first three golfing icons to play at this special club. Suffice to say that much has changed since…

Commemorating this milestone has been a welcome chance for all of us to reflect on the last 30 years of growth – both the achievements and the challenges. It has also been an opportunity to look ahead to a very bright future (more on that later!).

As our members will attest, 2024 has been yet another busy year at the club. From hosting a truly inspirational EDGA event for golfers with disabilities to our unforgettable Anniversary Members’ Day, the year has been filled with so many high points that I am sure will live long in the memory. Special mention must also go to our partner charity for the year, Demelza (see pages 8-9), a Kent-based children’s hospice who do so much crucial work. Collaborating with their team throughout the year has been a humbling and inspiring experience. Among the stories you can look forward to in this issue are round-ups of the last 12 months of professional golf, a look at the incredible story of our new member Issa Nlareb and – as ever – a small tribute to the exceptional work done by our whole team to help deliver another great year to all of our members and guests.

This edition of The London is also special for another reason. Although the copy you hold in your hands now is by and large a celebration of the last year, we also hope it gives you a taste of what is still to come. We’re certainly not standing still; we all have aspirations of attracting golf’s biggest stars and events, and planning is already well underway for what I have no doubt will be an exciting future. You won’t want to miss what we have planned!

As ever, many thanks for reading, and for all of your support in making London Golf Club the place it is today. We hope to see you all in 2025 and wish you a fantastic year.

With best wishes,

A PEARL OF A YEAR

Members will already know that London Golf Club reached its 30th anniversary in 2024 – here’s how we celebrated this milestone anniversary in style…

What London Golf Club has achieved over the last 30 years has been truly remarkable.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been three decades since London Golf Club, the passion project of Mr. Masao Nagahara, opened its doors here in the ‘Garden of England’. The occasion was marked by a charity skins match on the Heritage Course between three all-time greats of golf: Tony Jacklin, Seve Ballesteros and, of course, course designer Jack Nicklaus. Seve was victorious on the day and – crucially – set the tone for thirty years (and counting) of exceptional golfers coming to ply their trade on our courses.

While the two championship courses that opened here all those years ago are still as good as ever, the club itself has come so far in those decades and we felt it was only right to celebrate in style at the dawn of this exciting new era for the club.

Celebrations took place throughout July as we played archival footage of Nicklaus

and Ballesteros from the launch event, and had some key memorabilia from the past 30 years on show. We hope newer members enjoyed the chance to look at those artifacts of the club’s history – and that they brought back some good memories for the older members!

September also saw the very special 30th Anniversary Members Day take place, celebrating the club’s evolution into one of the UK’s premier golf destinations. After taking to the course, we were delighted to see so many members enjoying the evening, with food and drink served by our incredible hospitality team followed by a dazzling fireworks display and live music to round off the day.

“What London Golf Club has achieved over the last 30 years has been truly remarkable,” said our chief executive officer Stephen Follett.

“From creating a strong membership community, to regularly welcoming the world’s best players for fantastic events, there is little we haven’t achieved. We would like to thank every member and guest as well as everyone who has contributed to the club’s journey over the last three decades.”

However, as Follett was eager to point out, everyone here at London Golf Club has big plans for the future – so there’s no time to rest on our laurels!

“While our first 30 years have witnessed a remarkable journey of growth and success, there is no doubt that the next 30 years are set to be incredibly special, thanks to continued investment and a drive to host golf’s biggest events once again. The future is looking extremely exciting for everyone here at the club.”

Thanks for 30 unforgettable years – here’s to 30 more!

LONDON GOLF CLUB SUPPORTS CHILDREN’S HOSPICE CHARITY DEMELZA

London Golf Club has played a leading role in helping to raise money for children with serious or lifelimiting conditions across south-east England after selecting Demelza as its official charity of the year.

It wasn’t until we visited [Demelza] that we soon learnt the wide range of support that was on offer. Overnight respite and Care at Home have enabled us to enjoy some of the pleasures that we simply cannot have with a disabled child. The care goes above and beyond the children, they look after us too.

Liz (pictured above) has been supported by Demelza since son Henry was born in 2021

Formore than 25 years, Demelza has been delivering extraordinary care to children with serious or life-limiting conditions, and their families across Kent, south-east London and East Sussex.

Demelza is here from first diagnosis and for as long as they’re needed, supporting children and young people up to the age of 25. Services are as unique as every family, from creative therapies, short breaks and accessible facilities, including a hydro pool, to support for families and siblings, counselling, care towards the end of life, memory making and bereavement support. The specialist nursing and care teams are here every day and every night, all year round, supporting families wherever is best for them – in Demelza’s hospices or in their homes, online, at school and in local communities.

There are many ways you can get involved with supporting Demelza – from organising your own fundraising event to taking part in one of Demelza’s, to volunteering with Demelza or visiting one of their shops – each and every person who fundraises, shops, donates or volunteers makes a difference to the children and families who use the services.

Liz and Matt have been supported by Demelza since their son Henry, who was born on Christmas Day 2021, was

around four months old. He has a very rare genetic condition called CASK gene mutation and his parents were told his life expectancy was very short.

Liz said: “At the time hospice care to us meant that our son needed end of life care. It wasn’t until we visited that we soon learnt the wide range of support that was on offer.

“Overnight respite and Care at Home have enabled us to enjoy some of the pleasures that we simply cannot have with a disabled child. The care goes above and beyond the children, they look after us too.

“The hydrotherapy pool is just amazing. We have spent many an afternoon watching Henry floating in the warm waters of the pool and we also love the beautiful tranquil gardens.

“The Care at Home team is equally amazing as we currently have no other support or care for Henry. This means that when we have Care at Home we can do little things which bring us joy, like go for a coffee together.”

Regional fundraising manager Katie Hook said: “We are very grateful to London Golf Club for choosing Demelza as their Charity of the Year.

“The golf days they held to raise money for us were great occasions and we’d like to say a big thank you to them and everyone who came along and donated so generously.

“They’ve been so supportive, and we’ve really enjoyed working with them.”

London Golf Club has staged an array of events – including two golf days – to raise funds and awareness for the charity since the 12-month period began in March 2024.

In addition to hosting the events, including a charity golf day, club staff will wear Demelza pin badges as part of their uniform throughout the year, donation tins will be present around the club, while orders of special charity dishes on the clubhouse menu will see money donated to the charity through every purchase.

Stephen Follett, London Golf Club’s chief executive, said: “Demelza delivers extraordinary care to extraordinary children who are facing serious or lifelimiting conditions, and as a club, it is an honour to support and raise awareness of the charity. I would encourage all our members and visitors to support in any way they can.”

To date, over £60,000 has been raised for Demelza by London Golf Club.

If you are able, we welcome further donations throughout 2025 via the QR code below.

MICHAEL SARGENT: MY 30-YEAR JOURNEY

Shortly before celebrating 30 years of service at London Golf Club on December 12, we sat down with head chef Michael 'Sarge' Sargent to reflect on his time at the club...

How did you get started at London Golf Club. What was your initial role here?

I joined London Golf Club as a sous chef a little over 30 years ago. I was in that role for around four years before I became head chef – a position I have held ever since.

What are some of the most memorable moments you have had while working at London Golf Club?

I’ve met a lot of famous people and done a lot of golf days where celebrities have been present. Lewis Hamilton, Alice Copper, Samuel L. Jackson –cooking for those guys was very exciting. I met Clint Eastwood here also which was a real pinch yourself moment!

In the earlier days we used to look after a lot of the foreign embassies as they held their golf days here, including the Japanese embassy. When they were here, I went to London and worked with their chefs and learnt some bits in the embassy kitchen. I found that really interactive and a brilliant time. Looking back on your career at London Golf Club, what are some of the achievements you are most proud of?

When I took over the head chef job, the Japanese ownership was still in charge. Since the ownership has changed, the

club has evolved to be a location where we’ve held big international golf championship events. From a food and drink perspective, that has its own challenges. Being able to play a key role in helping London Golf Club adapt to this has been very rewarding.

During the tournaments, we did a lot of the food for the players – here I had to learn very quickly about sports science.

It has also been fantastic to work and train so many younger chefs, helping them to develop and grow. So many have gone onto great things, be it at London Golf Club or elsewhere. I have always been proud of that.

I was also very proud of the team during the coronavirus pandemic and how they adapted.

How has the food and drink offering developed over the time you’ve been at the club?

When I first joined, the club was Japanese owned, and it was certainly a different style of club – and the food was different to now as well! I have to say, I really enjoyed learning the Japanesefood and Teppanyaki cooking.

As the club has grown, our team has had to adapt also. When I first started, the golf industry was a little bit stuffy so to speak. We tried to stand out a little, do things a bit differently and make

our food offering more modern. It is safe to say the food here has certainly evolved since 1994!

Over the years the business has grown into a big flagship business, and there are exciting plans for the future. I have gone through a lot of change here. We now do weddings, events, car launches, funerals, product launches and so much more –everything has been different, and I feel I’ve had my input on all of that and how we look at these events.

When we did the European Open in 2008 and 2009, the build-up to the events and being here for the pro-am was incredibly exciting. Being involved in organising the food and drink for those events was when I realised London Golf Club was playing in a bigger league than before.

How have your relationships with members and staff evolved over your 30 years at the club? You must have made some great friendships?

Absolutely, especially with the members. I can’t highlight anyone individually from that side as that wouldn’t be fair, but on the staff side there have been a couple of people here around a similar length of time as myself that I have so many great memories with.

I’m sure you’ve worked with quite a few people over the last 30 years. Are there any colleagues that stand out that have really helped you along the way?

I came from a hotel and Michelin star restaurant background, so very early on I learnt a lot from the golf team. Chris May was one of those – now CEO of Dubai Golf.

Of course, Paul Stuart (head PGA professional) has been an ever-present and a great liaison for me throughout the last 30 years!

Could you have envisaged you’d still be here 30 years after starting?

To be honest, no! I had never really thought I’d work in golf, and a few people jokingly said to me that I wouldn’t last when I first started! I always joke with a lot of those people to this day that I’m still here.

It has been a great career for me. I’ve grown with the business and have thoroughly enjoyed it.

How will you celebrate 30 years?

It hadn’t really crossed by mind until we sat down to talk about it! I have no idea where the last 30 years have gone, I haven’t really thought about it!

There is also a great food and drink team in place currently at London Golf Club. You must be excited for what the team are doing now and what the future holds?

For sure. We are rebuilding the team at the moment, something I have done a few times in 30 years, but the future certainly looks bright. We’ve got some great menus in place and a great food and beverage team.

London Golf Club is known for its long drive to the clubhouse. We did the figures to work out how much time Sarge has spent on the drive…

in minutes: 79,680 in hours: 1,328 in days: 55!

QUICKFIRE QUESTIONS

Favourite dish to cook at London Golf Club It’s a classic that we have been doing here for a very long time and is extremely popular - sticky toffee pudding!

Favourite dish to eat from the Spike Bar menu Cod cheeks and skinny fries – served with anchovy tartare sauce and garden pea puree.

Guilty pleasure food I quite like a curry!

Favourite golf hole at London Golf Club

It has to be the 10th on the Heritage because it is straight out the window from the kitchen!

London Golf Club’s chef de partie Jordan Fallis shares his favourite story following close to two decades working alongside Sarge.

Sarge is the best boss you could ever ask for. From starting work with him at 17 for three years before moving on to a job in London with his encouragement, staying friends all the time I was away from London Golf Club, and then coming back eight years later, he has always been wonderfully kind, caring, supportive and a great mentor. We have had many funny times over the years, but my favourite by far has to be the pheasant incident. Sarge does not like flappy birds. Leaving work one hot summer day driving up the driveway, I accidentally clipped a pheasant that had ran out in front of me. I saw it roll along my car and go behind me. Little did I know this pheasant had somehow been sucked in through the window of Sarge’s car. I looked behind me to see if the pheasant was ok, and all I could see through my rear-view mirror was pure horror on Sarge’s face. The pheasant had gone through his window, between the gap in the front seats and ended up on his parcel shelf!

He tried to evacuate his car as quickly as possible but had forgot to undo his seat belt. Once undone he was out of the car like a shot! He had a look of pure horror on his face. Knowing him all these years, I know he hated every second of that incident which made it all the funnier. No pheasants were harmed, and he opened the boot, and the bird flapped away fine. We all have continued to tease him about this ever since, to the point where he now has a beautiful pheasant ornament in his tree at home.

Sarge, thank you for being you. What a massive achievement this is for you, congratulations. Love you always to the best boss ever.

THE LONDON PROJECT:

WHAT’S NEXT FOR LONDON GOLF CLUB?

There are big plans on the horizon, and we couldn’t be more excited to share them with you. Here’s a sneak preview of what the future holds for London Golf Club...

After years of work behind the scenes, in August 2024, we launched a public consultation about our plan to turn the club into a world-class leisure destination – the first of its kind in Kent.

The overarching aim is to create a venue capable of hosting events on a global scale. Golf is continuing to grow, and the possibilities are endless – the sky is the limit with the plans that we have.

At the forefront of ‘The London Project’ will be a new hotel and spa with 240 rooms. The hotel will be built overlooking the first fairway of the Heritage, with panoramic views across the course and surrounding countryside.

As well as a wide range of rooms and suites, the building will house a sparkling new spa, restaurant and bar – not to mention ample function and conference spaces that we are

sure will see plenty of use all year round.

But that’s not the only accommodation option coming – 80 luxurious lodges (built in two, three or four-bedroom varieties) will also open under the new plans, offering total privacy and connection with nature.

We’re also excited to unveil the new centrepiece of our sport and leisure offering: ‘The Pavilion’, an ultra-modern hub with its own restaurant, retail outlet, gym and creche. Facilities including tennis and padel courts, equestrian facilities and a wild swimming lake will all be within walking distance.

Above all, we want these brilliant new facilities to be accessible to all. Our members will remain the most treasured figures at the club, but we believe that the new additions will just be too good to keep locked behind closed doors. The Kent community,

including local schools, can expect to benefit from greater public access to the site with the introduction of a travel plan including a shuttle bus.

Proposals include a significant rise in community outreach and engagement with local stakeholders, and will also boost our capacity for charitable commitments and inclusion programmes.

As well as leisure, The London Project will offer educational benefits to the local community via the proposed ‘Sports Turf Academy’, comprising of training facilities, a workshop and classroom.

We also wanted to make sure that sustainability and biodiversity benefits would come from the developments, so land development will open up opportunities to grow food on-site (though alongside this, our much-loved local suppliers will still be heavily involved!).

Another key string to this bow is securing the long-term future of South Ash Manor by restoring and converting the building into a world-class wedding venue. This expansion will include four lodges, a wedding suite and accommodation within listed cottages, and we’re looking forward to giving the currently unused manor a role in the community for years to come. Both golf courses remain very much a key part of what we do, and that’s not going to change. We’ll build a new driving range a short walk from both layouts – forming part of a state-of-theart Golf Academy that will be open to members and guests alike - as well as making a few enhancements to the existing clubhouse.

These are the plans at the heart of The London Project, but there’s so much more that we can’t wait to share with you over the coming months and years. Watch this space for more news down the line – we hope you’re as excited as we are to build a venue like no other in Kent.

UNBEATABLE USA: 2024 MEN’S GOLF ROUNDUP

It was a flawless year for the United States’ male golfers, who bounced back from their humbling 2023 Ryder Cup defeat to claim all four Majors, seal a tenth consecutive President’s Cup and win Olympic Gold...

Alleyes were on Augusta National in April for the 88th Masters Tournament, where Scottie Scheffler – who had made a statement of intent the month before with wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship – was on dominant form to claim his second green jacket in three years. The tournament was as good as won by the time he turned out of Amen Corner, and this imperious performance would prove to be a sign of things to come across the rest of the year.

The American’s closest challenger was none other than Ludvig Åberg, playing his first ever Major, while Max Homa and Colin Morikawa also fell short on Sunday. Tommy Fleetwood was the best-performing Englishman – and it wouldn’t be the last time Fleetwood lost out to Scheffler in 2024. Elsewhere, Tiger Woods set the record for most consecutive cuts made at the Masters with a staggering 24.

Scheffler’s next Major was marred by controversy at The PGA Championship when, on Friday morning, he was arrested outside of Valhalla Golf Club. Despite spending much of the morning in custody, he made the cut – a feat that big names including Woods, Åberg, Phil Mickelson and Jon Rahm failed to match – but the damage done by his poor second round put an end to his hopes of silverware. American dominance continued regardless

thanks to a certain Xander Schauffele.

Schauffele led by three shots after kicking off his triumph with the joint-lowest round in Major history, but the rest of the week was by no means a breeze. The likes of Morikawa – who was tied for the lead on Saturday night - Sahith Theegala and Viktor Hovland all threatened to reel Schauffele in over the weekend, but the Californian rallied in his final round to secure a oneshot win over LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau. All charges against Scheffler were dropped two weeks later.

DeChambeau recovered from the disappointment of his nearmiss quickly. The famously long hitter would not have to wait much longer to win his second Major; he edged out Rory McIlroy to claim his second U.S. Open win on Pinehurst Course No. 2. McIlroy, though, will want to forget the final four holes; three bogeys – including two putts the Northern Irishman could normally make in his sleep – saw him lose a solo lead in the dying moments of the competition. By contrast, DeChambeau’s stunning upand-down on the final hole will go down in golfing folklore.

The 152nd Open Championship rounded off Major season at Royal Troon Golf Club, and the story of the first day was a shock lead by Major debutant Dan Brown. European Ryder Cup winners Shane Lowry, Justin Rose and Nicolai

Højgaard were also in the mix in the early stages of the tournament.

Lowry even moved into the lead by the end of a Friday that saw McIlroy, Woods, Åberg, Hovland, DeChambeau, Wyndham Clark and Henrik Stenson all make early exits from the tournament… but ‘moving day’ gave the table a very different look. Schauffele and Billy Horschel (who would win the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth two months later) took advantage as Lowry struggled. Thanks to a remarkable bogey-free final round of 65, it was Schauffele who lifted the Claret Jug and

Scottie Scheffler Image courtesy of Getty Images

became the first male golfer since 2018 to win two Majors in the same calendar year.

Of course, the Olympic Games offered a welcome bonus weekend of thrilling golf this year. Despite lightning delays, Hideki Matsuyama led a surprisingly low-scoring opening round with Schauffele, Scheffler and Team GB’s Fleetwood hot on his heels. Rahm, meanwhile, produced one of the best tournaments of his season and was joint-top of the leaderboard after the third day.

It wasn’t to be for Fleetwood, who still walked away with an impressive Olympic Silver after finishing an agonising one shot short of the lead. Matsuyama took home Bronze after fending off the host nation’s Victor Perez. And who earned Gold after shooting a joint-tournament-best 62 on the final day? Scheffler, of course. Who else?

Scheffler was also part of the US team that won a tenth Presidents Cup in a row in September. Their relentless 5-0 performance on Thursday was followed by a record-breaking fightback by the same scoreline from the International Team on Friday. In the end, though, the US’ quality shone through, and victory was confirmed with several singles matches still to conclude. They’ll aim to replicate that form next year when the Ryder Cup is held at Bethpage Black – but Team Europe, led by Luke Donald, will certainly have other ideas.

KO AND KORDA SHINE: 2024 WOMEN’S GOLF ROUNDUP

It’s certainly been a year to remember in the world of women’s golf, with five Major championships being joined by a Solheim Cup and Olympic Games in a packed calendar – where all-time greats and rising stars alike made history…

Lydia Ko Image courtesy of Getty Images

There was an overwhelming favourite going into the first Major of the year, and it wasn’t hard to see why: Nelly Korda came into the Chevron Championship in Texas on a hot streak of four consecutive LPGA wins. After defending champion Lilia Vu withdrew with a back injury, Korda – who started the final round one stroke behind then-leader Haeran Ryu - lived up to her billing to make it a record-equalling five in a row. She became only the third woman ever to achieve the feat and the first in nearly two decades.

A run of three consecutive Major titles claimed by Asian golfers began a month later, with the U.S. Women’s Open at the Lancaster Country Club, Pennsylvania. Here, Korda made headlines for the wrong reasons with a septuple-bogey on the par-3 12th. That shock score not only ended her chances of a win, but also set the tone for a brutal challenge that saw just two players finish under par across four rounds. One was champion Yuka Saso, no stranger to success in the U.S. Open having won her first in 2021. Only Saso’s compatriot Hinako Shibuno joined her in breaking par.

In Washington, Sahalee Country Club played host to the KPMG Women's PGA Championship in June. Korda was back in the mix alongside the likes of Lexi Thompson, Charley Hull and Celine Boutier after the opening round. However, a solid Friday from South Korea’s Amy Yang saw her move into a share of the lead at six-under alongside Sarah Schmelzel, two strokes ahead of Shibuno, Thompson and Jin Young Ko. In the end, Yang’s consistency was decisive – her scores of 70, 68, 71 and 72 on the par-72 layout were

enough to ease to a two-stroke victory.

July meant the 30th edition of the Evian Championship in France, where low scores proved bountiful across a thrilling showcase of golf. Nine players – including Lydia Ko, Lauren Coughlin and Ayaka Furue – recorded a score of six-under or better in the first round alone. Furue repeated the same feat the next day to go 12 strokes below par ahead of the weekend, but big names Saso and Hull failed to make the cut.

Despite Stephanie Kyriacou’s spirited charge over the weekend, Furue was resurgent on Sunday with yet another round of six-under-par… and just like at the Women’s PGA Championship, the title was lifted by a first-time Major winner.

The fifth and final Major championship of the season took the world’s best players to one of the most iconic venues in sporting history: the Old Course at St Andrews for the AIG Women’s Open. A field packed with quality did not disappoint.

It was a relentless battle between some of the biggest names in golf: Hull, Korda, Vu, Yin Ruoning, Jiyai Shin… all five past and present World No. 1 players looked at one point or another like they were in with a shout of a famous victory. But it was New Zealand’s Lydia Ko who broke an eight-year Major duck – despite being five shots off the pace come Saturday morning.

Open success, though, wasn’t even Ko’s first big victory of the summer. Just weeks earlier she had become the first golfer in the modern era to win all three medals at three different Olympic Games. Boutier, representing the host nation,

stole the show on the first day with a three-shot lead; Ko surged back into contention with an excellent second round, but still faced stiff competition from Ruoning and Morgane Métraux.

Not even a stunning final round of 66 from Esther Henseleit was enough to knock Ko off her perch in the end, as she added Gold to go with her Silver from Rio 2016, and Bronze from Tokyo 2020.

One of the busiest years in the history of women’s golf got busier still with the Solheim Cup in September. Covid-enforced delays meant it had only been a year since the last edition of the biennial tournament, and Team Europe had fond memories of retaining the cup in 2023. This year, though, Team USA made home advantage pay.

At Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, the Americans produced comfortable 3-1 victories in the first two sessions to give their guests an early mountain to climb; it was all the Europeans could do to minimise the damage on Saturday with four wins apiece. Korda was among those in fine form, winning every match she played until a Sunday singles defeat at the hands of Hull.

A final-day fightback briefly threatened to produce one of the all-time great golfing comebacks, but it wasn’t to be. Megan Khang, Allisen Corpuz and Rose Zhang’s wins were enough to ensure that the trophy went to Team US… at least until 2026, when Bernardus Golf – and a chance at redemption – awaits.

GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR GAME WITH TITLEIST’S GT DRIVER

In summer 2024, Titleist, the most played driver on the PGA TOUR for five years and counting, introduced their most advanced and best-performing drivers to every bear the Titleist script.

GT drivers are engineered to deliver total driver performance without sacrifice, making it faster, longer, straighter and more forgiving across the face than any Titleist driver to precede it.

The new GT driver launched with three models. GT2 is designed for speed and forgiveness across the face

with a higher-MOI setup. GT3 is designed for fine-tuned speed and control, maximising distance and optimising flight. GT4 is a low-spin, 430cc driver designed to eliminate excessive spin and deliver a fast, penetrating trajectory.

Improved aerodynamics allows the entire GT range to move faster through the air to increase

clubhead speed, whilst the very precise CG placements ensure optimal launch and spin without sacrificing forgiveness.

The rapid adoption on tour has seen some of the biggest names in golf, such as Max Homa, Tom Kim, Cameron Young and Matteo Manassero all converting to the new driver in 2024.

There have also been wins for Julien Guerrier (Estrella Damm N.A Andalucia Masters), J.T Poston (Shriners Children’s Open) and most notably, Billy Horschel winning the flagship event on the DP World Tour at the BMW PGA Championship, where he relied on the finetuned performance of his GT3.

“It feels more solid to me,” said Horschel.

“I know where the ball is better… Even the ones I missed, the dispersion is still tight. We haven’t lost anything. It’s faster, spin rate is more consistent.”

On the LPGA, the players making the move to GT include Solheim Cup stars, Albane Valenzuela and Emily K. Pedersen.

It is not just the metal category where Titleist is dominating on tour - during the 2023/24 PGA

I know where the ball is better…Even the ones I missed, the dispersion is still tight. We haven’t lost anything. It’s faster, spin rate is more consistent.

Billy Horschel

Tour season, Titleist was also the most played hybrid (42%), utility iron (52%), irons (32%) and wedge (54%), as more players gamed Titleist equipment over the course of the 2024 FedEx Cup season than any other brand.

Meanwhile in the golf ball category, Titleist was once again the overwhelming top choice of competitors on Tour, with players teeing up a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball 3,369 times (70%) over the 39 events, more than five times the nearest competitor (566) and more than two times the total of all competitors combined.

Carl Barton, Titleist area sales manager who works closely with London Golf Club’s team, said:

“With the new GT line, we are talking about Total Driver Performance and it’s important to explain to golfers what that

means with the unique benefits of the new technologies we have introduced.

“We’ve improved the aerodynamics, so the club is faster through the air to increase clubhead speed whilst maintaining the look, sound and feel that Titleist players demand.

“Having a range of specs on offer, we are more passionate than ever to ensure we have every option available for every golfer and we cannot stress enough the importance of members coming and getting fit for the new GT metals, even if you are a current TSR player.

“We look forward to continue to host many more of our successful Titleist club fitting days at London Golf Club, where we hope to get members dialled into Titleist products that will help them perform their best on the golf course in 2025.”

G4D COMES TO LONDON GOLF CLUB

This summer, we had the pleasure of welcoming the European Disabled Golf Association (EDGA) for an unforgettable three days of golf. Here’s a look back at how the inaugural London Golf Club G4D Shield unfolded...

FromAugust 6-8, some of golf’s leading players with a disability descended on the International Course to compete over 36 holes. Five nations – the UK, Italy, Germany, the US and Cameroon – were represented in the 30-strong field.

Issa Nlareb stole the show on day one, producing a superb four-under round 68 to cement his position as overnight leader. He wasn’t alone in excelling through 18 holes, though; strong performances from several

competitors meant it was all still to play for going into Thursday.

The second round brought with it a very different set of challenges, with tough weather conditions setting up plenty of higher scores. However, Nlareb’s round of 78 was enough to see the Cameroonian finish one shot ahead of runner-up Jack McCrindle – and four strokes clear of the rest of the chasing pack.

Speaking after his victory, Nlareb said: “It was my honour

to play in England and this lovely golf course. I like playing this type of course and I thank the London Golf Club team because it is not easy to keep it in this condition. I also want to thank EDGA, the sponsors and my wife Francesca.”

This was the first EDGA event held at the club since the EDGA Cazoo Classic in 2021, when Chris Biggins’ narrow victory was finally confirmed after a tense wait in the clubhouse.

“It was an honour to host the inaugural London Golf Club G4D shield on our International Course,” said our director of golf, Ben Stimson.

“The event was a humbling experience for the entire team, and we witnessed some magnificent golf from extremely talented individuals. It was incredible to watch how people with disabilities were able to navigate their way through a round of golf with such commitment and determination.”

Ahead of the event, the club worked with EDGA – an organisation which works with 50 national golf federations to deliver opportunities across the sport – to promote inclusivity and accessibility for golfers with a disability across the wider Kent region.

The EDGA team provided coaching to our PGA professional Paul Stuart to ensure that the club is fully equipped to provide lessons to golfers with disabilities, and free golf lessons were made available to local children and adults with a disability.

We also worked closely with EDGA across the golf course and wider facility to help identify all opportunities for improving visitor experience and for reaching new customers across the disability spectrum, and we look forward to seeing the benefits this will bring over the years to come.

Dr Tony Bennett, president of EDGA, said: “When London Golf Club agreed to host an EDGA Tour event it immediately felt like a good match. The whole team has been so easy to work

with throughout the planning process, all the way to delivering the London Golf Club G4D Shield.

“We were aiming for 30 players at this first event and we know that many of these golfers who clearly enjoyed their experience will now spread the word on the quality of the course and the warmth of their reception. I anticipate that getting a place in the 2025 event will be much desired by many G4D players.”

Everyone at London Golf Club would like to thank EDGA and every player who took part, and we look forward to welcoming the EDGA Tour back in May 2025!

WELCOME ISSA! - ISSA NLAREB BECOMES LONDON GOLF CLUB MEMBER

In September, we welcomed Issa Nlareb back to the club just weeks after his unforgettable triumph at the inaugural London Golf Club G4D Shield...

Nlareb’s rounds of 68 and 78 on the International course had sealed victory in August, and we were delighted to offer him membership so that he can visit the club at his leisure.

Hailing from Cameroon, Nlareb’s first introduction to the world of golf came at the age of 11 when, following the death of his mother, he started work as a ball boy at a local club to earn money. After a few years, he progressed to caddying and eventually started playing the game himself.

Nlareb’s talent was obvious right away, and at one point he was the top-rated player in Africa. A tournament in Egypt in 2018 changed the trajectory of his life forever. During tournament week, he contracted bacterial meningitis, losing both legs and all but two of the fingers on his right hand.

But after a couple of years, it became clear that he missed golf too much to give it up – and to his delight, Nlareb

realised that he could still hit a golf ball better than most. Thus began the slow climb up the World Ranking for Golfers with Disability (WR4GD). He stepped into motivational speaking and took on responsibilities as an ambassador for the disabled golf community. Very quickly, Nlareb became someone that others looked up to.

Less than a month before his win on the International Course, the Cameroonian was making

his debut in the U.S. at the U.S. Adaptive Open in Kansas – the pinnacle of a lifelong goal to play golf in America.

The club is proud to be supporting Nlareb on his inspirational journey, continuing a long tradition of welcoming the world’s best to our fairways – a tradition that began over 30 years ago when Jack Nicklaus, Seve Ballesteros and Tony Jacklin played in our opening match.

Q&A WITH ISSA NLAREB

What do you enjoy most about the set up at London Golf Club?

Well, this is my second time coming here. I enjoyed everything about it, the academy, the clubhouse. It is a big modern venue. I love to play golf here. The practice facilities are in such great condition. The courses are very challenging and I look forward to playing more here.

Do you feel like having membership at London Golf Club will be a good opportunity for you?

Yes, it is nice that I can be welcomed here and use London Golf Club as my venue. I am happy to be a member here. Two different courses and beautiful panoramic views on the courses. England to me looks flat but it is not, no lie is the same. Sometimes up above my feet other times low and difficult, it reminds me of Cameroon!

In Cameroon, where I started, the lies were more flat and this is more challenging but I enjoy it. I started to play in Cameroon and I lived on the course for two years. I felt safest on the course. When I did this I would find balls from the course and sell them to people at the course to make money. After I did this I then started to caddie.

At London Golf Club, the facilities are better. Kent gets the rain and sunshine, sometimes, so the course can be so much better. Here I see the greenkeepers work like a family. For me everyone I have met at the London Golf Club is so welcoming.

What are your ambitions for the future?

I think that I will travel around the world to play and learn. This year I won the Adaptive Open in the US. This was great for me and it was an honour to play and win. When I played at the London Golf Club Shield I won also.

I want to get others to enjoy my story. This way I can share my resilience and why I play the game, because for me it is my life.

How do you think, you and your story can inspire people and help grow golf for those with a disability?

When my career stopped in 2021 it was tough. When this happened, I went to school to learn how to share my sport.

When I visit England, and come to London Golf Club, I would be happy to share and teach – let

people watch me hit balls and inspire. In France, I have a certificate to teach. So, I am ready to show this to anyone and to play and teach people in England and in the academy here.

How excited are you to be returning in 2025 for the London Golf Club G4D Shield. Are you going to defend your title?

Of course! This is my home course now and I will be here to make sure. The golf club have given me this great gift so I will be here. Any time and any invite to this event it would be my honour to play.

I will give my everything to defend my trophy!

A BEACON OF HOPE: FIVE YEARS OF THE COMMUNITY CUPBOARD

In September, we welcomed our friends from The Community Cupboard to celebrate five years since the Kent-based charity started operating.

2024, LGC actively supported Community Cupboard as an additional charity along with Demelza

Collection point for staff all year round. Quarterly food drive and big Xmas drive every year

The Community Cupboard was founded half a decade ago with a simple aim: to provide food and grocery support to those who need it in Kent. London Golf Club has been a proud supporter since 2021, so it was a pleasure to play a small part in the team’s well-deserved anniversary celebrations.

Over the last three years, we have donated over 110 kilograms of food to help people within a ten-mile radius of West Kingsdown, trusting The Community Cupboard’s hard work and expertise to ensure that every single donation goes where it is needed most.

In today’s world it is more vital than ever that we give back to the local community whenever we can – but giving back on this scale would never be possible without the support of all of our members and staff.

Hosted event for the five-year anniversary of the Community Cupboard

As well as a year-round collection point open to the whole London Golf Club team, our quarterly food drives (culminating in a hugely successful Christmas drive) have helped us make a difference.

November marked the opening of a second location, this time in Swanley, that we have no doubt will provide crucial support to even more individuals and families facing hardship – building on the near 7,000 that the organisation has helped already.

It remains an honour for everyone at the club to work with this fantastic cause. We look forward to continuing to support The Community Cupboard for many more years to come!

This year, we were proud to work with The Community Cupboard alongside our chosen 2024 partner charity, Demelza.

MEET THE NEW FACES AND MOVERS OF LONDON GOLF CLUB

In 2024, London Golf Club welcomed a host of talented new team members, all dedicated to taking the club to new heights. Several staff members also began new positions within the business. In early December, we caught up with them to hear their stories and aspirations for the future...

SIAN HALL

GOLF SALES AND EVENTS COORDINATOR

After working as a golf reservations agent and receptionist for ten months at London Golf Club, the opportunity arose to interview for the position of golf sales and events coordinator, and I was successful! I started the position straight in the deep end at the beginning of our busy season in April.

My role consists of being the main point of contact for the overall booking process of all golf day events at the club, ensuring no detail is missed from the initial enquiry to the event and thereafter. Communication is key to this role which is great as I like to talk (and listen!). I am looking forward to developing in my role, improving my on-course game and enjoying another busy year of golf events in 2025!

HARRY MEREDITH MEMBERSHIP EXECUTIVE

Before I joined London Golf Club, I had never picked up a golf club. Fast forward to today, and I’m not only learning the game but starting to truly enjoy it.

I started my London Golf Club career in the pro shop last year, which gave me the chance to meet many of our regulars and get to know the community here. This year I moved into a membership role where my focus is on looking after members, as well as promoting the club to potential new joiners. It’s also exciting to manage new opportunities and member benefits – two key aspects that continue to make London Golf Club a top golfing destination.

I’m proud to be part of such a dynamic team helping to create a fantastic experience for all our members and guests.

EMILY COLTMAN

ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT

I have been with London Golf Club since May 2024. I originally started at reception which was a great opportunity to meet the members and visitors we have at the club. Since then, I have taken on a new position of accounts assistant. This has been an exciting career change for me, and I am thankful for London Golf Club for giving me the opportunity to step up to the position. Working here is an absolute pleasure thanks to the staff and members, and I am excited to see where this new career can take me within the company.

Since joining London Golf Club, my role has seen me work on improving our hospitality offering, reviewing menus and elevating them to give the best possible dining experience to members and guests.

Alongside this we have been chipping away at our style of service, staff training and working on the all-important customer journey.

During the next 12 months, we will be steadily working on the next stage of service, and we will hold member forums to hear what changes members would like to see. This will be tied together to help us deliver the best hospitality experience possible.

CAELEN NELL HEAD GREENKEEPER

I joined London Golf Club back in 2013 shortly after moving to England from South Africa. I can honestly say that I didn’t know then that I’d still be here 11 years later but that is testament to the amazing colleagues and members that we have. Everyone involved at this club has been incredibly welcoming and friendly and made working here an absolute pleasure.

I started my career with the golf operations department. After a few years I looked for a new challenge and moved over to the greenkeeping department. I couldn’t have imagined seven years ago that I’d make the journey from trainee greenkeeper to head greenkeeper, but I am incredibly grateful for this.

In my current role I am responsible for managing the team that looks after the International Course. My ambition is to provide a course that is not only fun and enjoyable but also creates a memorable experience. With the amazing team I have I’m sure we’ll only get stronger and better in the future.

Thefirst piece to be unveiled in the new Fabergé x 007 Goldfinger capsule collection is the Fabergé x 007 Egg Safe Locket with Ruby Heart Surprise. Available to preorder from 16th October 2024, this 18k yellow gold locket is inspired by the Fort Knox gold depository safe, a central part of the film’s plot. It is in an egg shape, which opens to reveal a responsibly mined Gemfields Mozambican heart-shaped ruby encased within. This is the first time Fabergé has created an egg surprise locket which opens in this fashion. The ruby heart nestled inside is dripping in gold and represents Goldfinger’s passion for gold and is a reference to the title song lyrics, “He loves only gold.” The bail of the pendant is inspired by the

NEW CREATIONS ANNOUNCED

Fabergé and James Bond reveal new additions to the Fabergé x 007 collaboration, including a new egg surprise locket in celebration of the 60th anniversary of Goldfinger (1964) and a ring to join the Fabergé x 007 Octopussy capsule collection.

This is gold, Mr. Bond.

All my life I’ve been in love with its colour… its brilliance, its divine heaviness.

shape of the ‘G’, for Goldfinger, and in the same font, like the signet ring that the character wears in the film.

The Fabergé x 007 Octopussy Ring is crafted from 18k brushed yellow gold and is a showstopping octopus that wraps around the wearer’s finger. Forty-eight round brilliant-cut diamonds, which represent the octopus’ suckers, sparkle on the tentacles, one appearing to climb up the finger when worn, while two round brilliant cut diamonds characterise its eyes. In keeping with Fabergé’s penchant for surprise, a responsibly mined Gemfields Mozambican ruby is hidden on the inside of the ring band, a secret only the wearer will know. The octopus pays homage to the eponymous antagonist at

the centre of the Octopussy film.

These new creations are available to pre-order from today and join the Fabergé x 007 Octopussy Egg Surprise Locket and Limited-Edition Fabergé x 007 Octopussy Egg Objet, which were revealed in March 2024.

Designed by Fabergé head of design, Liisa Tallgren, and overseen by Fabergé creative director, Josina von dem Bussche-Kessell, the Fabergé x 007 creations are a symphony of past, present and future, with nods to two legendary James Bond films.

“Another set of beautiful additions to our Fabergé x 007 James Bond partnership with EON, these collectible pieces

continue to commemorate iconic symbols and themes from the Bond universe and are brought to life in signature Fabergé styles.” Josina von dem Bussche-Kessell, Fabergé creative director.

“The glamour and appreciation of beauty and culture is where the worlds of Bond and Fabergé meet, a perfect place to create a collection of very special pieces that honour both Fabergé heritage and Bond storytelling.” Liisa Tallgren, Fabergé head of design.

The Fabergé x 007 collections are available to purchase at Fabergé’s boutiques in Dubai and Macau, The 007 in the Burlington Arcade and also online at Faberge.com and 007Store.com, as well as via select authorised retailers around the globe. AMERICAN AND AUSTRALIAN INTERNS EXPERIENCE LONDON GOLF CLUB

London Golf Club hosts interns from across the world during the 2024 season.

In 2024, here at London Golf Club we hosted two international students during our peak season to experience the golf club's operations. Throughout the summer, Danny McCall from Philadelphia, America, and James Pelly from Melbourne, Australia, were hosted on a four-month internship.

During their stay the pair lived in Kirby Cottage (our staff accommodation renovated in 2023), integrating with the team and working in golf services and hospitality. We recently caught up with the pair to reflect and look back on their time at the club:

My time at London Golf Club was incredible –from working with the golf services and greenkeeping teams, I learned so much and felt like part of the team straight away. The club’s welcoming environment and the opportunity to experience all aspects of its operations made this an unforgettable exchange experience.

I loved the British culture, pub nights with the golf team and going to see my English football team – Chelsea! Adapting to British culture was such an enjoyable challenge—whether it was getting used to the tea breaks, the humour, or just the dayto- day routines. The friendships I made, the laughs we shared, and the lessons I learned will stay with me forever.

Everyone at the club made me feel welcome, and the experience is one I’ll always treasure. I will be sure to visit London Golf Club whenever I am back in town.

I had a great time both living and working at London Golf Club. The warm and welcoming staff made settling in so easy, and I felt right at home from the start.

Whether it was working behind the bar with Jack and his interesting sense of humour, sharing laughs over staff lunches, or hearing Kubilay’s stories about life in Turkey, every day was full of memorable moments.

Playing golf with James, Callum, and Mike was a highlight (even if Mike’s game could use some serious work—sorry, mate!). Beyond the fun and laughs, I loved getting a real taste of life in the UK, from the culture to the banter, and even a bit of your unpredictable weather.

A huge thank you to everyone at London Golf Club for making my experience unforgettable. The friendships I made and the memories I take with me will stay with me forever.

Life at London Golf Club was never boring, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way!

SWIFT SUCCESS FOR PRO/SLX GOLF SHOE FROM FOOTJOY

Regarded as one of the most successful product franchises in golf, Pro|SL has set a high standard for performance golf shoes by delivering comfort, traction and performance for men, women and juniors at all levels of the game

Therecent evolution of Pro|SL – Pro/SLX and Pro/ SLX Carbon - incorporate the most advanced materials, performance technologies and construction processes to provide golfers with revolutionary traction, comfort and control.

Giving UK media the opportunity to experience Pro/SLX at the launch event in February, they were blown away by all the new technology that had gone into the model to make it one of FootJoy’s most high performing and comfortable shoe offerings to date.

Dan Parker, head of footwear at Golf Monthly, openly admitted that he was not much of a Pro|SL wearer in the past stating that the shoe “simply didn’t suit his feet”, but after testing and playing a few rounds in the Pro/SLX Carbon model, his opinion shifted.

“After a proper shoe fitting and couple of rounds in the Pro/SLX Carbon, I feel like something of a convert to the franchise,” said Parker. “The outsole is truly unique and superb in all conditions, making this a true all year-round shoe, while the improvements on comfort put the Pro/SLX Carbon right up there in the comfort category.”

Some key technological advancements that have gone into Pro/SLX includes a New PWR TRAX System featuring

a 3D X-Wing and Race Trak Outsole that introduces gamechanging traction in all climates, whilst FJ’s StratoFoam midsole and 3D Molded Collar offers golfers exceptional comfort and a reliable, consistent fit.

“How comfortable were these shoes? Well, if I said that I hardly noticed I had them on, would that sum it up?” said Will Shreeve-Peacock, Today’s Golfer. “Not only did they fit like a glove but the Ortholite FitBed is like stepping onto a memory foam mattress.”

Lewis Fraser, performance editor at Bunkered, added, “For someone who can definitely sway too much in his swing, these did a good job in mitigating that. Even on a wet day, Pro/SLX gave brilliant traction underfoot. FootJoy aimed to give traction, comfort and control with these shoes and I can safely say they’ve achieved that.”

Like its predecessors, Pro/SLX is already popular at every level of the game, including on the professional Tours. Both the carbon and core models have been worn in play by the likes of Sungjae Im, Corey Connors, Laurie Canter and also Daniel Brown, who converted to the franchise after struggling with his previous pair of golf shoes.

“I was really struggling when I was walking on the golf course

as my feet were getting really sore,” said Brown.

“Once I tested Pro/SLX, I was thrilled to find a golf shoe which still provided that performance element which my previous shoe offered but with the comfort I need, so I can play multiple rounds in a row without any pain whatsoever.”

This success has transcended at retail, with many in the trade including London Golf Club’s shop manager, Simon Hilliard, seeing huge demand for the shoe from London Golf Club members.

“When we saw the shoe for the first time, we absolutely loved the look,” said Hilliard.

“This is why on delivery we set out a display of the shoe on our FJ wall which immediately created a lot of interest amongst the membership.

“We have a lot of members and guests who play two, three or more times a week so they need a reliable shoe that performs like it’s supposed to whilst also providing that comfort factor and having a pair myself certainly helps if I need to convince anyone.”
