When did you know you wanted to work in the music industry?

is one of the UK’s leading music producers. Oriana White discovers why... all over the world. His discography includes a rich blend of deep, jackin’ house tracks with tough bass lines and subliminal vocal messages. What are your most proudest of having accomplished as VC? This one is really, really easy. The greatest achievement is what we’ve done for the outcome of students. Teaching satisfaction is up 8%; students getting jobs when they leave is up by 10%, and the best thing of all, students getting graduate and highly skilled jobs, is up by 26%. That’s wonderful. That’s what I came to do - to improve the outcomes for students. My job, when I’m here, is to stack the odds in favour of our students and give them things that they need to

How should fashion embrace diversity? Embracing diversity in fashion. That was the hot topic of the debate for experts in the industry, as London Metropolitan University brought “Colour-in Fashion” back to the table on Tuesday.

Guardian journalist Carlene Thomas-

Bailey, blogger/stylist Maria Pearl, fashion judge and stylist Jay Kamiraz - aka “Mr Fabulous” - and Buzzfeed columnist Tolani Shoneye answered questions from BA Journalism students and gave opinions on topics ranging from the lack of black models on the covers of mainstream magazines to plus-size models.

“Every 20 years or so, we have a moment

and then we just disappear… I don’t know how we stop becoming a fad and become the mainstream,” Thomas-Bailey told students. Diversity in fashion tends to spread from TV to front page, but then suddenly all goes a bit quiet, she said.

International publications are showing

signs of embracing diversity in fashion. But is that all they’re showing - signs? British Vogue’s appointment of Edward Enninful in April 2017 proves a major stepping stone in the right direction. But celebrating diversity continues to move slowly.

So what’s the definition of a “perfectly

diverse” fashion industry? Pearl believes brands are trying their best to have all models of different colours; the runway diversity report for 2017 shows more models of colour showcasing the Fall, 2017 collection than ever before.

If you combine castings from New York,

London, Milan and Paris, 27.9% were people of colour; that’s a 2.5 point increase from Spring. “When we talk about a perfectly diverse industry,

DON’T LOOK BEHIND, LOOK FORWARD TO THE FUTURE! The Museum of London is holding a free exhibition that will leave you bewildered. The exhibition will be held daily from 10am to 6pm from 2nd February to 14th April 2018 at the Museum of London, 150 London Wall, EC2Y 5HN. What’s better than thinking about the future now that you’re shaping it?

AND AFTER ALL THOSE CHRISTMAS MARKETS... Spend the Easter weekend at Balham Bowls Club for the SoLo Craft Fair’s first market of the year. Some of the best local creators will be exhibiting all kinds of items, from homeware to fashion to art. You’ll also be able to join creative workshops and listen to live music while drinking at the bar. Saturday 31st March, 12-5pm, Balham Bowls Club, 7-9 Ramsden Rd, London SW12 8QX.

Method Break the chocolate into a large heatproof bowl. Bring a pan of water to a simmer, then sit the bowl on top. The water must not touch the bottom of the bowl. Let the chocolate slowly melt, stirring now and again with a spatula. Meanwhile, lightly grease then line a 23 x 33cm roasting tin or baking tray with parchment. Put three-quarters of the mini eggs into a food bag and bash them with a rolling pin until broken up a little. When the chocolate is smooth, pour it into the tin. Tip the tin from side to side to let the chocolate find the corners and level out. Scatter with the smashed and whole mini eggs, followed by the frozen raspberry pieces. Leave to set, then remove from the parchment and snap into shards, ready to pack in boxes or bags.

Some raisins and chocolate will try to escape, but keep kneading them.

2 tsp fast-action yeast

Grease then line a large baking sheet with baking parchment. Divide the

50g golden caster sugar

dough into 12 equal pieces. Shape into buns by pinching each ball of dough into a purse shape, concentrating on making the underneath of the ball (which will be the top) smooth. Put the buns, smooth-side up, onto the baking sheet, leaving room for rising. Cover loosely with oiled cling film and prove in a warm place for 30-45 mins or until the dough has risen and doesn’t spring back quickly when prodded gently. Heat oven to 190C/170C fan/gas 5. To make the paste for the crosses, stir 6-7 tbsp water into the plain flour to make a smooth, thick paste, then put in food bag and snip off the end to about 5mm. Pipe the crosses, then bake 20-25 minutes until the buns are risen and dark golden brown. Mix the rest of the orange juice with the remaining sugar and let it dissolve. Brush the syrup over the buns while they are hot, then cool.

control... but I just can’t. From Broken Diary

From the Wannabe Jetsetter Dear Broken Diary, Dear Wannabe Jetsetter, I understand that you are in a very difficult position but sometimes you do have to be selfish. It is clear that this is something you want to do therefore you should go for it. Leaving your parent behind will be so difficult but this will be a learning curve for your mum too, she will grow and blossom just like you will! Have an open and frank conversation with her about how you feel and I’m sure she will support your decision. You need to think carefully about your destination, choose something which is not too far way so you can make trips home and she can make trips out. European flights aren’t that long, or too expensive off-season. If you decide you really can’t go for an entire year, find other abroad experiences for shorter periods of time such as Camp America. Spread your wings darling – the opportunity to travel is a blessing. Love, Aunty Hind

35

My first piece of advice is to actually buy a diary and make looking at it every morning and night a religious task. Also, make sure you write everything into it, so as soon as you get your rota, write all your shifts down. This goes for all your commitments. By putting everything down on paper you will be able to see your free time and schedule in some ‘me time’ – this will help you feel more relaxed. If you are not finding enough time to fit everything in you need to prioritise and cut down on certain things - such as finding a more flexible job. If a diary doesn’t work then research some apps you could use or use reminders on your phone. Lastly try and merge things you need to do together. For example, if you need to see your friends, set up a library date so you can all study. Breakfast dates also work well because they get you out of bed early and make sure you see who you need to see while keeping your day free. You’ve got this – just don’t panic! Love, Aunty Hind

Murrati Vase: A Fierce Channel Island Tradition The FA Cup, UEFA Champions League and FIFA World Cup are just a few of world football’s biggest competitions. But in the Channel Islands there is a fierce tournament that takes place every summer, which defines tradition for three islands: The Murrati Vase The Beginning In 1905, the first Murrati Vase took place, a n d t h re e i s l a n d s b e g a n c o m p e t i n g :
