ANNOUNCES AMBITIOUS GLOBAL EXPANSION FOR ITS LUXURY PORTFOLIO
MELIÁ HOTELS INTERNATIONAL
Meliá Hotels International, Spain’s leading hotel group and the third largest in Europe, has announced the ambitious global expansion of its luxury brands, with one in three of its pipeline openings within its luxury portfolio. From Europe and Africa to Central America, Meliá brings its signature Spanish hospitality to some of the world’s most captivating locations, with each development offering luxury experiences responsibly. In 2023, Meliá added to its portfolio of hotels in Tanzania with the opening of Ngorongoro Lodge Meliá Collection - a design-led lodge in one of the most biodiverse places on the planet – and celebrated the Paradisus by Meliá brand landing in Europe with openings in Lanzarote and Gran Canaria. Continuing the commitment to global expansion and growth of its luxury portfolio, Meliá is preparing to open the doors to some of its most ambitious and luxurious hotels yet: Palazzo Cordusio Gran Meliá in Milan, ME by Meliá properties in Lisbon and Malta, and ZEL, a new lifestyle brand and joint venture with tennis legend, Rafael Nadal.
For more information, please visit meliahotelsinternational.com
GRAN MELIÁ GROWS INTERNATIONALLY The global growth of Gran Meliá Hotels & Resorts is key in reinforcing Meliá’s positioning in the luxury sector. Dedicated to creating cultural enrichment, Gran Meliá will continue its expansion into Europe and Southeast Asia with hotels in Albania, Spain, Italy, and Vietnam. The highly anticipated Palazzo Cordusio Gran Meliá will open its doors in December 2023, in the historic heart of Milan. A landmark opening for the brand as its first Milanese hotel, Palazzo Cordusio will occupy the lovingly restored 19th-Century Palazzo Venezia, one of the city’s most iconic Renaissance buildings and formerly the headquarters of Assicurazioni Generali, close to the Piazza del Duomo and Castello Sforzesco. A haven for gourmands, the hotel will house a chic patisserie, bistro, cocktail bar, and a stylish rooftop bar and terrace with spectacular Duomo views. Blending Italian flair with Meliá’s signature Spanish hospitality, Palazzo Cordusio offers a gateway to Milan’s great cultural heritage, telling the city’s illustrious story and ensuring guests experience the vibrant destination beyond what meets the eye through a selection of curated experiences: shop in the famous Vittorio Emanuele galleries; enjoy opera at La Scala, or see da Vinci’s The Last Supper first-hand.
The luxury brand has also increased its presence in Spain with Torre Melina, A Gran Meliá Hotel. The exclusive urban resort in the heart of Barcelona leverages the heritage of the iconic Rey Juan Carlos Hotel, taking it to a new level with a full renovation. The brand also entered Southeast Asia with its first opening in Vietnam: Gran Meliá Nha Trang. Effortlessly blending Mediterranean hospitality and Vietnamese charm, the all-villa resort stands out as a new luxury landmark on an unspoilt beach amidst the tropical beauty of Fairy Mountain, with spectacular views of Turtle Island.
JOURNEY THROUGH TANZANIA In July, Meliá Hotels International expanded its portfolio of hotels in Africa with the opening of Ngorongoro Lodge Meliá Collection. The design-led lodge adds a fourth to Meliá’s collection of properties in Tanzania, offering a unique journey through distinct cultural pockets of the beautiful, biodiverse country, from Arusha to Serengeti and Zanzibar. Further positioning Meliá as a responsible hotel group with sustainable values, Ngorongoro Lodge was crafted with the utmost respect for the environment and designed in honour of its location. Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for housing the world’s largest volcanic crater, the 56-room lodge aims to protect and preserve the natural ecosystem and culture of the local Massai tribe. 95% of all products used across the property are acquired in neighbouring villages, and the hotel produces its own water through a bottling plant. The experiences are what makes this lodge so special: discover Ngorongoro Crater with a full-day Game Drive, rubbing shoulders with the resident wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles, visit a traditional Massai house, or boma, and learn about local culture first-hand, or take to the skies with an unforgettable Balloon Safari over the famed Ndutu Region.
ME BY MELIÁ MEETS MEXICO, MALTA, AND LISBON Dynamic, stylish, and rooted in culture, art, fashion, and gastronomy, ME by Meliá brings destination, design, and service together to deliver personal, enriching experiences. Located in global, cultural epicentres, 2024 will see new ME properties launch in Mexico, Malta, and Lisbon. Opening in the heart of the historic Portuguese capital in 2024, ME Lisbon will showcase the brand’s signature avant-garde design and high-quality services, as well as top-notch gastronomic concepts, a Radio Rooftop Bar with panoramic views, and over 600m2 of meeting and event space. Also opening in 2024, ME Malta will become the city’s new social and cultural epicentre, in the coastal town of St Julians (east coast). Designed by worldrenowned architect Zaha Hadid, the hotel will feature 14o rooms and suites, innovative culinary offerings, and Radio Rooftop Bar. ME Sayulita will bring ME’s signature style and innovative cultural programming to the famous Playa de Carricitos, featuring 125 rooms and villas and, true to the brand philosophy, an avant-garde luxury experience, with three restaurants, swimming pool, spa, and a rooftop bar with pool and beach club. This will be the third luxury lifestyle brand hotel in Mexico, joining ME Cabo and the future ME Guadalajara, and bolsters Meliá Hotels International’s wider expansion into Mexico, where it is expected to double its presence in the next two years.
DESTINATION INCLUSIVE LANDS IN EUROPE The Paradisus by Meliá brand brings its unique Destination Inclusive concept to Europe, with new openings in Lanzarote and Gran Canaria. Taking the all-inclusive concept to a whole new level, at Paradisus by Meliá, the destination is at the heart of the experience, and each hotel immerses guests in its captivating locale. Paradisus Gran Canaria, which opened its doors in 2023, is located in a lush, natural environment on San Agustín Beach, and combines luxury with local culture and nature, with immersive experiences included as part of the innovative Destination Inclusive concept: explore the Cueva Pintada Archaeological Park, taste Spain’s most famous rums with private tastings, or head out on guided hikes. The recently opened Paradisus Salinas Lanzarote is a true architectural treasure, designed by the renowned Spanish architect, Fernando Higueras. Surrounded by the breathtaking beaches of Costa Teguise and charming villages steeped in local culture, Paradisus Salinas Lanzarote offers unparalleled exploration of the island, a biosphere reserve, with its lunar landscapes, volcanoes, unspoiled beaches, picturesque villages, and areas of
natural beauty, all included as part of the Destination Inclusive offering. Noteworthy openings for Meliá also include those from ZEL, a new lifestyle brand created in collaboration with Rafael Nadal. Inspired by the welcoming homes, outdoor culture, and lifestyle of the Mediterranean, ZEL made its debut in Mallorca in summer 2023 and will continue an ambitious growth plan, starting with ZEL Sayulita in Mexico, projected to open in 2025.
EXPANSION WITH A CONSCIENCE Sustainability is at the heart of Meliá’s ethos, and corporate responsibility and responsible tourism play a key part in the development of the group’s luxury portfolio, with each new opening committed to caring for its local community. Setting a benchmark for sustainable hospitality, the opening of Villa Le Blanc Gran Meliá in 2022 saw the group unveil its first prototype in terms of efficiency and environmental responsibility. Menorca’s first grand luxe hotel has earned multiple awards since, and contributes to Meliá’s accolade as the most sustainable hotel company in Spain and Europe by S&P. The company has also begun implementing its new sustainable event initiative: Road to Net Zero Events. This project is the result of technology developed in collaboration with Creast, a company that specialises in measuring, reducing and offsetting the environmental impact of events, which has been tested for the past year in Europe at Meliá Barcelona Sarriá and Meliá Berlin. Road to Net Zero Events, as the name suggests, was developed to find improvement opportunities that would help the company towards the goal of achieving carbon neutrality in events, responding to increasing demand from professionals in the sector.
A POSITIVE OUTLOOK Meliá Hotels International’s commitment to innovation and brand positioning continued to garner recognition in important industry awards. The group was awarded Best Hotelier of the Year in the Beyond Luxury Awards 2023, with Gran Meliá properties, Palacio de Isora (Tenerife), Hotel de Mar (Mallorca) and Villa Le Blanc (Menorca), honoured in various other categories, with Villa Le Blanc listed among the 10 best luxury hotels in Spain. Villa Le Blanc was also named Best New Hotel of the Year in the renowned Condé Nast Traveller Awards. André Gerondeau, Chief Operating Officer of Meliá Hotels International said, ‘It’s an exciting time for Meliá as we embark on an ambitious expansion of our prestigious portfolio of luxury hotels, solidifying our global presence. The grand opening of Palazzo Cordusio, our first Gran Meliá property in Milan and restoration of one of the city’s most beautiful and historic buildings, as well as the opening of Ngorongoro Lodge, A Meliá Collection in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, reinforce our preeminent position within the luxury sector. With great anticipation, we set our sights on the year ahead, as we extend our signature Spanish hospitality to discerning travellers around the world.’ Overall, Meliá maintains an incredibly positive outlook for 2024, despite the backdrop of uncertainty and intensified geopolitical tensions. Tourism has only continued to gain momentum post-pandemic and continues to grow steadily, as Meliá reports an incredibly strong third quarter of 2023 with no signs of slowdown as we move into 2024.

PLENTY OF OPERATORS PUT UP DECORATIONS AS SOON AS HALLOWEEN WAS OVER, STARTING TO INVOKE THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT. LET’S LOOK AT WHAT THIS CHRISTMAS IS GOING TO BE ALL ABOUT, AND WHAT YOU CAN DO TO STAND OUT FROM THE COMPETITION. ‘Cocktail-making is a theatrical art.’
We’re finally there, one of the most loved times of the year: Christmas. With people all over the world looking for premium experiences, hospitality establishments play a pivotal role during the holidays. In the post-covid world, ‘premium’ has acquired a new meaning; with so many DIY alternatives for the perfect cocktail night in the comfort of your very own living room, bar operators everywhere have really upped their game to wow their guests - and, of course, make sure they come back. Cue an array of entertainment-led venues revolutionising their offering to stand out from the competition: where does that leave you? In the very same spot as the next operator. So what can you do that will really make the difference? Easier said than done, it is time to think out of the box and come up with something extraordinary, something that will have your patrons still remember that special moment months later. There are a few things to take into consideration, such as the atmosphere of your venue, the menu offering, and any entertainment you want to provide. This
OURWHISKY FOUNDATION
doesn’t necessarily mean a cabaret, singing or dancing act; it all comes down to the people behind the bar, serving your guests and making sure they’re satisfied at all times. Cocktail-making is a theatrical art, not to mention when flair comes in - a whole different story. Keeping your customers engaged and letting them take control of the bartending experience can often prove a clever way to make them curious about your venue. Perhaps, you could ask about their flavour favourites, their go-to spirits, and something they’d like to try; or you could get more creative with it, having them reminisce about a childhood memory or answer a few questions about their personalities. This two-way kind of service keeps guests engaged throughout the evening, making them look forward to their next drink and what it might - literally - bring to the table. If you feel brave, you could even interact with the crowd by picking a random drinker to come help you in making your creation; add in a bit of flare and some sparkle, and you’ll soon need more staff to keep up with the orders! Of course, the quality of your offering whether it is food or drink - cannot fall in second place; no matter the creative way you might present your dishes and tipples, if the substance is not there, guests will certainly not be happy. So, how can you ensure that your quality is just as good as the fun you provide? Hiring skilled staff is not enough: you’ve got to stock the best spirits, beers and wines on the market; make sure that your establishment especially the bar and kitchen - are squeaky clean to prevent cross-contamination, and that your ingredients are from reliable sources, and always fresh. Not to mention ensuring your staff is communicative and prepared for anything that might be thrown their way! A hiccup or two can be easily fixed with attention to
detail, perfect presentation and excellent service, showing your customers you are committed to making their visit a success. Boosting your marketing is another way to get things going, and you might want to spice your menu up for the Christmas period by designing a bespoke selection of themed delights. Running limited promotions and seasonal specialties is a great way to entice customers in coming to your venue and trying the latest combinations, taking their overall experience the extra mile by marking the special occasion. Alongside this, décor is a must; everything about Christmas decorations screams special occasion, and you definitely want your guests to feel just as special. Through social media content and regular updates on your main platforms, you can appeal to existing and potential customers with the promise - and, of course, later execution - of a one-of-a-kind event. Creating digital advertisements about what a magical night at your establishment is all about will spark your followers’ curiosity and boost bookings; this can be paired with other limited offers, such as online booking discounts and free tokens to spend at the bar during their visit. If you are a pioneer of entertainment in the more literal sense of the word, then you should think about putting on a bespoke Christmas show for your patrons. Step out of the ordinary and bring on stage an act your customers have never seen, or a big return of the artists they loved the most - all topped off with a warm, welcoming and extra-festive atmosphere. Indulgence will be at the heart of hospitality this Christmas; let it inspire you in planning an unforgettable experience for your guests, making them feel like they are worth one billion dollars, like nothing is too extravagant and everything is possible.

‘Engage with your customers and leave a mark on their memory.’
NIKONLAMP However, it can be tricky to achieve that without falling into repetitive clichés, which is certainly not the right way to go if you want to set yourself apart from the competition. To minimise this risk, we put together a few ideas you can draw inspiration from and adapt to your business mode to make the most out of the upcoming holidays.
INTERACTIVE SOLUTIONS No, we’re not referring to high-tech, AI-driven pieces - though that would be a great idea. We are thinking a bit more analogic-themed backdrops and props for your guests to take a snippet of all the fun they’re having! A personalised token, such as a polaroid taken in the spur of the moment, can prove a great way to engage with your customers and leave a mark on their memory.
It’s our favourite time of year and everywhere we look, there are blankets and blankets of decorations getting us into the Christmas spirit. The streets are bustling with busy buyers, getting ready for the festivities and making sure they’ve got the best offers in town; they might stop at our venue for a little break, or join your guests for the evening alongside friends and family. How are you going to make sure that you transmit that feeling of warmth and joy, and give them a wonderful night? You might have already guessed it obviously, you need to step up your game and transform your venue into a Christmas oasis, a winter wonderland, a magical place where everything is possible.
They will remember what they experienced during their visit, which will create an emotional connection and therefore influence them to come back time and time again.
DIY COCKTAIL STATIONS Leveraging the heightened interest in mixology and cocktail-making, DIY cocktail stations positioned around the venue could be an interesting way to merge guest engagement and décor. Putting your spin on classic themes, you can build mini pop-up bars where patrons can mix up their favourite tipple alongside having a variety of specially-crafted Christmas garnishes to choose from. Alternatively, why not draw up a bespoke cocktail menu, and really bring the presentation to the next level? This way, your customers will not only see
the beautiful decorations around the venue, but have their very own piece right in their hand! Between colourful spirits and edible snowflakes, let creativity lead the way and embellish your front-of-house with more than just fairy lights.
TASTE IS MORE No matter if you’re a minimalistic aficionado or a maximalism fanatic - as long as there’s taste, you can make it work! Step beyond your comfort zone and look for those statement pieces that are not likely to be seen in another establishment; something that has an edge, that you’ll be remembered for regardless of the number of bars and restaurants trying to do just the same. What do you want your guests to feel? As always, customer experience is at the heart of everything we do; focusing on that will always be a wise choice, and can guide you in selecting a style that suits your brand as much as your audience. As you embark on the enchanting journey of transforming your venue into magical realms for the holiday season, the key lies in the delicate balance between tradition and innovation. Steering away from clichés, go beyond simply decorating your space and focus on crafting experiences that linger in the hearts of your guests.

‘The People’s Whiskey’
MISUNDERSTOOD WHISKEY FEATURING A LIMITED EDITION PERFECT FOR THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS, MISUNDERSTOOD WHISKEY REDEFINES THE CATEGORY BY BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN EXPERTS AND NOVICES.
Misunderstood Whiskey was born in a kitchen in Montclair, New Jersey, where best friends and Founders JD and Chris had been experimenting with a liquid that could be enjoyed by everyone, everywhere! In fact, they define their product as ‘The People’s Whiskey’, emphasising its versatility - and, since launching, popularity. With accessibility on their mind, JD and Chris created a brand that redefines the whiskey category, re-introducing the spirit as a nonpretentious drink for connoisseurs and new fans alike. Looking for their unique signature, the two came across ginger; which they chose as the perfect mellowing agent by infusion for their whiskey. Infusing the ginger is the very last step of the process; Misunderstood Whiskey is distilled and aged in oak barrels just like all others. What makes it unique is the finishing and blending process: the bourbon is blended with American whiskey featuring various types of oak finishes to create different flavour profiles - the ginger infusion comes in at the very end. Shortly after the launch of their first batch, Misunderstood Whiskey sold out and started on their road to success. The company exceeded expectations and grew an incredible audience, doubling in sales year by year. Well-known in the scene, Misunderstood whiskey was used as top-shelf liquid in a variety of restaurants and bars, enticing new customers to enjoy this revolutionary creation. Founders explained that ‘misunderstood’ pointed to advocating for those belonging to the gap between whiskey aficionados and those who just joined the category.

To the ‘expert’ whiskey drinker, infused whiskey is a no-go, almost taunting the flavour of the spirit itself. However, we experimented with ginger and found a way to induce the whiskey to mellow its punchiness, rather than instill flavour. This reinforces our concept that Misunderstood Whiskey - and whiskey in general - can be for every kind of drinker.
without the dairy! Ready to serve - just chill and enjoy. Made from honest ingredients & sustainably sourced gluten-free oats, Misunderstood Oat Nog Liqueur is blended to perfection with Misunderstood Ginger Spiced Whiskey and dairy-free Oat milk. Proudly vegan-friendly!
Chris and JD hacked the target market because they identify with it; they recognise that ‘millennials are extremely experimental’, wanting to try ‘out-of-the-box things’. The pair also focused on the versatility of their product, allowing indeed to experiment with different flavour combinations for the perfect beverage.
NOSE: Crème brûlée, vanilla, and nutmeg
A brand directly targeting its customers, Misunderstood Whiskey is a great option for both professional bartenders and amateurs to play with; with a variety of recipes available on the website, customers can be inspired and put their own twist on Misunderstood Whiskey cocktails.

SPACE JAM? ‘FIND THE RIGHT BALANCE THAT WORKS FOR YOUR BUSINESS.’

As a venue operator, the first step to making a good impression is to capture the attention of your guests from the very first step they take into your establishment. If the first look delivers, then their curiosity will be sparked even further when it comes to food and drinks, expecting the same outcome.

DESIGNING EXCELLENCE
021
In our first ‘Designing Excellence’ feature, we explore a few ways to ensure open communication between venue operators and interior designers. Designing a bar, club or restaurant’s interiors is a machiavellian task; you have to think about a dozen of different factors at the same time, considering aesthetic versus functionality, ambiance versus convenience, and finding the right balance that works for your business. The creative world and the hospitality industry have been intertwined for a long time, joining forces to deliver the perfect experience for patrons. This involves a series of elements that function only with and depend on each other, leaving the finest talents to create a bespoke space for your brand. Interior design has evolved into a comprehensive service that underlines the importance of having a harmonious space that makes your customers feel special, but also allows you to serve them quickly and effectively, meeting and exceeding their expectations. To ensure the assigned to your project fully understands your vision, it is vital that you prepare ahead and meticulously plan every step of the process. To help you maintain clear communications, we have a few small tips that will take you a long way.
SKETCH IT OUT Calling in the experts is definitely the right thing to do, but this doesn’t mean you can’t try out a couple of ideas and put them on paper for them to review. The sketches will not only inspire their work, but also allow you to have a more precise vision of your space.
This might spark late additions and modifications to the plan, which could ultimately transform in the very features that make your venue stand out from the competition.
DON’T BE SHY While the professionals lead the way, you must remember the kind of hospitality venture you want to lead; while being guided through the process, don’t be shy to reiterate your preferences and make suggestions that would better suit your brand. Working on an interior design project requires an open and honest dialogue, so take the time to talk about what adjustments need to be made to achieve what you have in mind.
MAKE MISTAKES As the old saying goes, nothing is ever set in stone. You might have taken a certain direction at the beginning of the project that doesn’t reflect your goals anymore; if in doubt, talk about a new strategy with your team and find an effective solution that won’t delay your plans. Arranging a variety of different solutions ahead of time might help you prevent this, giving you the opportunity to test features out before installing them permanently. Crafting the perfect venue ambiance involves a delicate balance between aesthetics and functionality, where interior design plays a pivotal role. In the dynamic realm of interior design, embracing change and maintaining a collaborative spirit lead to spaces that not only capture attention, but stand out in our competitive sector.

TRAINING, MANAGEMENT & WELLBEING Christmas is known as one of the busiest times of the year across industries, and even more so when it comes to hospitality. Consumers worldwide pack their bags for beachy destinations, ski trips, city tours and so much more - choosing a new venture to satisfy their hunger and thirst every single day. Whether you are a hotel manager, a restaurant owner or a talented bartender at a cocktail-specialised venue, you’ll have so much to take care of that the last thing you need to worry about is the focus levels of your teammates. Luckily, there are many ways to make bullet-proof plans and ensure every member of staff is widely prepared for the upcoming weeks.
the rest of the staff. These rendez-vous can take many shapes; from breakfast clubs to office lunches, informal snack & chat sessions or the ultimate take-away night, team check-ins don’t need to be anything too serious or anxiety-inducing. Rather, aim for a comfortable and inviting environment, where members can share worries and ideas, and feel welcome to ask for help if needed. Such a dynamic will give you the opportunity to gauge average energy levels, mental capacity and the general wellbeing state of your team - stimulating further connection through team-building activities.
Drawing from the ever-growing interest in mental health and wellbeing, Banc Magazine shares useful advice to help you hold full control over the holidays, alongside managerial tips and the latest updates in hospitality training.
PHASE 1: REASSESS How’s your staff really doing? This is the time to go around the room and check on your employees, making sure they are in a good headspace, confident in their skills, and ready to welcome your customers with impeccable service. Communication is key to keeping a business running, and holding regular team meetings is the right way to start building a trustworthy connection between you and

also alleviating the sense of guilt or shame that may surface if they struggle with asking for help.
Now that you’ve had the pleasure to spend some time with your team, you’ll have established a bond that allows you to individually approach employees to offer support and resources.
You may also offer subsequent check-ins to monitor their wellbeing, alongside online courses and mentoring sessions.
If their mental state is affected by the workload a little more than usual, giving them the chance to take some time off can prove both valuable and effective. What’s more, your employees will notice your empathic abilities and appreciate you being proactive rather than reactive,
Ensuring your team in a good headspace is vital to their performance, and henceforth essential to your business’ success. Remember, happy staff, happy customers!

PHASE 3: REGROUP AIM FOR A COMFORTABLE AND INVITING ENVIRONMENT.
Once you’ve allowed time to regain balance and focus, it is time to regroup and run through individual and collective schedules to ensure the workload has been successfully reallocated, adjustments have been made, and the team is ready to go. This includes ensuring that any changes have been taken into account by all and that instructions are clear and straightforward. Running a practice scenario to verify communication skills are on point will guarantee synergy amongst staff members, and allow you to make detaildriven alterations to the revised structure.

Once all the elements have been refined, your team will be able to take control and go back to wowing customers even more than before!
WHAT ABOUT TRAINING… Beyond staff wellbeing, it is pivotal that you keep up to date with hospitality training; keeping your finger on the pulse of industry trends will take you a long way, but it won’t be enough without adequate training of both soft and technical skills. From customer service to bar regulations, cocktail making and food contamination, you must adhere to rules and norms for hospitality establishments, not to mention provide appropriate training to existing and new hires. There are many ways to ensure staying on track with training updates, one of which is scheduling monthly training days dedicated to all the areas of your business. Spanning from group updates to role-read sessions, you can combine fun and learning to keep the attention up and the good vibes going. Perhaps, arranging after-work drinks or other light activities to unwind post-session could be an enticing way to let your staff know you value their efforts and dedication to the job. Alternatively, you can go digital: providing long-term access to educational platforms will allow your team to learn new skills over time, at their own pace, and through bespoke content relevant to their career paths. Plus, providing regular training will help you stand out from the competition, showing professionalism, innovation, and initiative.
…AND MANAGEMENT? Don’t forget to include yourself in all of this! A great team needs great management, and you can only provide that if you follow the same principles.

Just like everybody else, give yourself time to reassess your mental wellbeing, find resources that work for you, and connect with other hospitality operators to exchange the latest tips in managerial training. Take the time to go through older blueprints for the management of your venue, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and thinking out of the box to make effective changes that support both you and your staff. Problemsolving is an essential skill in this line of work, and the more you challenge yourself with it, the better you’ll be able to handle anything that comes your way. Luckily, technology has evolved significantly in the last few years and management apps have gained incredible popularity in the industry; from monitoring assignments to increasing productivity, managing your team becomes simple through these platforms, facilitating scheduling and easing workload.
WHAT NEXT? You’ve done your checks and made appropriate adjustments; what now? Well, of course, it’s time to shine! Christmas is only a few weeks away, and cities worldwide will be bustling with patrons looking for a good time. Show them how it’s done, but let them guide you; combine your experience with their deepest desires, creating unforgettable moments that will drive them to come back time and time again. The last step is to make sure that your offering and ambiance is on par with your skills and abilities as servers, achieving the perfect combination for a successful venture. Good luck - though if you follow our advice and keep working hard, you won’t need it!

SHARING IS CARING In the dynamic and fast-paced realm of hospitality, where excellence and service are paramount, the wellbeing of your team is equally crucial. As leaders in this industry, it’s essential to prioritise the mental health of your staff. In this article, we’ll explore tips for checking in with your team and fostering a supportive environment to ensure everyone thrives. Creating open lines of communication is the first step toward establishing a supportive atmosphere. Encourage your team members to express their thoughts and feelings, providing regular check-ins, both formal and informal, as opportunities for staff to voice concerns, share successes, and discuss any challenges they may be facing. In the demanding schedules of the hospitality industry, it’s easy for staff to become overwhelmed. Encourage a healthy work-life balance by respecting
scheduled breaks, promoting reasonable working hours, and discouraging excessive overtime. This not only enhances productivity but also contributes to the overall mental wellbeing of your team. Equip your staff with tools to cope with the pressures of the industry, such as mindfulness exercises, breathing techniques, or workshops on mental health awareness. By investing in their mental health education, you empower your team to navigate challenges with resilience. Foster a culture of support and camaraderie within your hospitality establishment. Encourage team members to look out for one another and offer a helping hand when needed. Simple acts of kindness and support, both from management and colleagues, contribute to a positive and uplifting workplace.
WESTEND61
Implement wellbeing programs that provide confidential support services to help staff members navigate personal and professional challenges. These programs can include counselling services, mental health resources, and support networks. Knowing that help is readily available can alleviate stress and create a safety net for your team. Regularly acknowledge and appreciate the hard work and dedication of your team. Feeling valued boosts morale and contributes to a positive work environment. Consider implementing employee recognition programs, where outstanding contributions are celebrated, fostering a sense of pride and accomplishment. Recognize that everyone has unique needs. Offering flexible scheduling and accommodating reasonable requests for time off can go a long way in supporting your team’s mental health. This flexibility allows staff members to attend to personal matters, recharge, and return to work with renewed energy. In the fast-paced world of hospitality, taking the time to prioritise the mental health and wellbeing of your team is not just an investment in individuals but also the success of your establishment. GUIDING THE TEAM THROUGHOUT A SERVICE IS NOT AN EASY JOB; AS A MANAGER, YOU HAVE COUNTLESS RESPONSIBILITIES WEIGHING ON YOUR SHOULDERS AND EVERY ITEM ON THE LIST SEEMS TO BE JUST AS URGENT AS THE ONE ABOVE IT.
For this reason, having a clear strategy to face the holidays and reflect guests’ enthusiasm is pivotal to maintaining a calm, welcoming environment. First things first, you’ll want to do a general check of your venue to identify any element that might be missing or need adjustments. From checking all equipment is up and running, clean and properly maintained, to ensuring your shelves are stocked to the brim, you need your bar or dining space to be in tip-top shape to make sure you can handle whatever is thrown your way. A great manager knows how to delegate; staff is what makes a venue work, so assign each of them an area to go over and ask them to report to you for any issue; ‘teamwork is what makes the dream work’ after all!
ARTHUR EDELMANS
even easier, there are plenty of digital platforms that can help you with coordinating the team, which will allow you to keep an eye on the progress from a distance while you take care of other tasks. Another way to achieve impeccable service is to take note of your bookings and make special arrangements, whether dietary or related to accessibility, ahead of opening time. This will ensure no confusion in the kitchen or front-ofhouse, avoiding issues like cross-contamination and allowing you to deliver a great customer experience for all of your patrons. Last but not least, we encourage every manager to think about their relationship with the staff, reiterating that a safe and dynamic environment will allow your business to thrive.
Not only will this lead to a faster update across the establishment, but also ensure that all elements are curated to the tiniest details.
Accepting suggestions from the wider team is a must, and regularly holding meetings to review current operation strategies is a fantastic way to encourage reflection and strengthen your team’s sense of camaraderie.
This tactic can be used during shifts as well, going beyond assigning a specific table or section to a member of staff; you can continue monitoring everything is going as planned by implementing regular updates. Making your life
We wish you all the best of luck this Christmas, and we want to take this moment to express our gratitude to every single member of the hospitality industry, forever forging incredible experiences.

In hospitality, ‘it’s not just what you know, but who you know’ is more than just a saying. Building and nurturing a robust network is not only vital for personal growth, but also for the success and sustainability of businesses in the sector.
AS THE HOSPITALITY LANDSCAPE EVOLVES, SO DO THE OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES, MAKING STRATEGIC CONNECTIONS MORE CRUCIAL THAN EVER. R FOR REVOLUTION ‘AI’s impact on social media continues to grow.’
WE UNCOVER THE LATEST UPDATES IN AI, THE BENEFITS OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN SOCIAL MEDIA, AND HOW TECHNOLOGY CAN HELP YOU BOOST YOUR BUSINESS.
The progress made in the realm of technology has been astonishing, marking a new era for various sectors, including hospitality. From automated check-in to magic-like, interactive info points, we are bound to see some marvels become reality in the next decade. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly being used in the hospitality industry to enhance customer experiences, improve operational efficiency, and streamline various aspects of hotel and travel services. The biggest focus has been on what AI means for guest experience, and how the numerous innovations in this field can be beneficial to one’s business. AI algorithms analyse guest preferences and behaviours to provide personalised recommendations for services, activities, and room upgrades. This helps hotels and resorts offer a more tailored and memorable experience for their guests. Many hotels and travel companies use AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants to provide 24/7 customer support. These bots can answer common questions, make reservations, and assist with check-ins and check-outs, improving customer service and reducing labour costs. Some establishments have started to implement voice-activated devices in hotel rooms, enabling guests with complete control over room settings and delivering the ultimate personalised experience. AI-driven translation tools can also overcome language barriers between you and your travelling customers, maximising communication and guaranteeing guest satisfaction. Not to mention the power of data analytics, through which AI-powered software can process large datasets and extract valuable information to help enhance the overall guest experience - from monitoring booking habits and check-in times, to dining preferences and favourite holiday activities. All of this can result in targeted, effective marketing for your brand and establishment, facilitating growth

become critical. This will also help you in keeping your guests satisfied no matter what, and always prepared to handle malfunctions. Easing your workload, AI-powered tools can be designed to assist with housekeeping and room service deliveries, improving efficiency and slashing times. In restaurants and bars, AI can also optimise inventory management, helping to minimise waste while maintaining adequate stock levels. The ultimate security aid, AI can even be used to enhance security and detect fraudulent activities, such as unauthorised access or suspicious transactions, credit card theft, and other potential risks for fraud within your venue. AI in the hospitality industry continues to evolve, with new applications and technologies emerging regularly. These innovations aim to enhance guest satisfaction, streamline operations, and adapt to changing customer preferences and expectations - but what can AI do when it comes to social media?
THE POWER OF AI IN SOCIAL MEDIA In the digital age, social media platforms have become an integral part of our lives. We use them to connect with friends, stay updated on the latest news, and discover new products and services. Behind the scenes, AI is playing a pivotal role in shaping our social media experiences, making them more personalised than ever before. AI is capable of analysing our online behaviours, preferences, and habits; this allows brands to deliver tailored content and recommendations that are specifically targeted to the interests of their audiences, boosting engagement and improving overall marketing goals. Content moderation is another area where AI shines. Social media platforms are home to billions of users, and with that come vast amounts of content. AI algorithms scan and filter this content, identifying and removing harmful or inappropriate posts, comments, and images.

introduction of ‘sentiment analysis’, which helps in understanding the emotions behind the words. AI can gauge public sentiment on a topic or brand by analysing the tone and context of social media conversations. Businesses use this data to shape their strategies and improve customer relations. AI has transformed ad targeting, making advertising more relevant and effective. By crunching data on user preferences and behaviours, AI ensures that ads reach the right audience. Advertisers benefit from higher conversion rates, while users see ads that align with their interests. This also applies to trends, which AI software are capable of monitoring and subsequently pushing targeted content to further to further appeal to customers and help them keep up to date with news and innovations. AI’s impact on social media continues to grow. As these technologies become more sophisticated, they bring both opportunities and challenges. Striking the right balance between personalization and privacy is a key concern, and addressing issues like algorithm bias is an ongoing task. Nevertheless, AI is here to stay, making our social media experiences more personalised, secure, and relevant than ever before.

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT WE LOOK AT THE RIGHT LANGUAGE TO USE WHEN INSTRUCTING AI TO PRODUCE CONTENT FOR YOUR PLATFORMS.
AI is an invaluable asset in today’s world; from copywriting to editing, this incredible technology can take care of your tasks in seconds. But how can you make sure you get what you ask for? As artificial intelligence, AI software responds to your inputs and is able to create drafts of both text and image, which can be really handy when it comes to advertising in such a fast-paced environment. However, there are still limitations on what AI can do, such as information being subject to system updates and fact-checking. These kinds of limitations can be avoided by using the correct type of language when instructing AI with a specific task There are a few simple ways to ensure clarity when issuing a task, which - with practice - you’ll be able to master and get exactly what you need for your brand. Not to mention, using AI-powered technology will help ease your timetable and workload.
KEEP IT SIMPLE The first step in effectively utilising AI for content creation is to clearly state your aims and requirements. Try giving as much detail about the type of content you may need, your target audience, the platforms it will be shared on, and the style and tone you want to keep. Stay away from particularly complicated briefs and complex terms, and instead choose simple and concise sentences that clearly outline your needs.

REVIEW AND EDIT Crafting content using AI is a process that entices more than just asking a question. Not only referring to fact-checking, which AI cannot be reliable for, drafts may require some additional work to achieve what you had in mind. This doesn’t necessarily mean fully editing the content yourself, but instead providing feedback and asking for a redraft with specific amending instructions. By initiating this process, you will be able to get closer to your objectives and the final product will require minimal editing on your end.
CHANNEL YOUR VISION Keeping in line with the simplicity of language in your request, using keywords that best represent your vision is a smart way to communicate with AI. Storing an incredible amount of information, AI will use your keywords to navigate their database and recognise the most relevant responses to your questions. This is particularly useful in digital campaigns, where merging AI and social media has proven to be an incredible marketing asset for brands across sectors. Content creation through AI-driven software is a dynamic process that involves clarity, specificity, and feedback. By clearly outlining your needs and objectives, using simple and concise language, and selecting a number of relevant keywords to best interpret your vision, hospitality businesses can leverage the full potential of AI to enhance their marketing strategy and content across platforms. As technology continues to evolve, it is pivotal for operators to master alternative techniques and get ahead of the game.

BYTE-SIZED HOSPITALITY ‘A new era of excellence within our sector.’
Technological trends are reshaping the way the hospitality industry operates, paving the way for a new era of excellence within our sector. One stand-out innovation that has gained immense popularity is contactless payments. The seamless and convenient nature of this technology has made it a favourite among both businesses and patrons. Another transformative technology making waves in the industry is the cloud-based Property Management System (PMS). This software, equipped with various modules, serves as a comprehensive solution to automate every aspect of hotel operations. The cloud PMS is poised to become increasingly prevalent, streamlining processes and enhancing efficiency across the board. Moreover, the integration of restaurant management software with PMS adds another layer of sophistication. This integration provides valuable insights into diners’ preferences, offering a comprehensive view that can significantly impact decision-making. A cornerstone of any venue’s pricing strategy lies in its revenue management system. The technological advancements in this field enable fine-tuned pricing and optimization, no longer exclusive to large brands; even small businesses can benefit from the precision afforded by automated software. Speaking of which, chatbots have emerged as versatile tools within the hospitality sector. While their ability to drive direct bookings is noteworthy, their true potential extends beyond this single function; however, the extent to which they will revolutionise customer service remains a topic of scepticism. In the realm of sustainability, smart energy management systems continue to assert gain public favour. Smart thermostats and occupancy sensors, attuned to changes in occupancy, can efficiently regulate energy consumption. These systems go a step further by analysing historical thermodynamics, regional weather patterns, and peak demand loads in real time, ensuring optimal energy utilisation throughout the year. As the hospitality industry continues to embrace these technological trends, the future promises not only increased convenience but also a more sustainable and finely tuned approach to managing hospitality enterprises of all sizes.
