WRIST BAND POLICY UPDATE
Long Island Village Owner’s Association, Inc. Policies Policy 3.9 WRIST BAND USE: Wrist Bands are required, year round, in the indoor and the outdoor pool, plus the Tennis Courts. Each owner will have four (4) bands distributed free each year and have an option to purchase four (4) additional for $ 5.00 each.

Manager’s Report
– GM Horner & FM Zamora GM Horner & FM Zamora presented their monthly reports and updates. Work Orders o There were 89 work order requests for the month. There are 20 work orders still open. GM Horner stated that one of the open work orders is for the new treadmill and it is on its way from Utah. GM Horner stated that one exercise bike has been repaired. The cost of the repair was a trade of the treadmill that burnt out. Another exercise bike is in need of repair so the technician will be called back to repair it. GM Horner stated that several sprinkler work orders are still open due to repairs needed at Lift Station 1. Secretary Vasquez asked GM Horner about the blue dye pills from the water district. GM Horner stated that when he dropped off two letters at the water district, he was advised that the blue dye pills were ordered and will be notified when they arrive but GM Horner has not received notification. GM Horner will check with the water district to see if the dye pills have been received. AT Guerra stated that you could also use food dye instead of the dye pills. Secretary Vasquez asked if there was going to be a procedure on how the dye pills will be passed out. Treasurer Steffensen stated that a notice about the dye pills has been placed in the May issue of the newsletter. FM Zamora stated the representative from the water district stated that it is not a problem to water sections on different days than stated on the water district statement. FM Zamora stated that the sections are being watered only twice a week. AT Guerra asked if there is a list to check to make sure timers are in compliance. FM Zamora stated that a majority of the timers are in the sea cottage area. Those timers are in compliance. FM Zamora also stated that the units in the rental pool are also in compliance. Building Permit o FM Zamora stated that five dwellings are being built and there will be an additional two that will be in the process. o AT Guerra asked FM Zamora if he was able to look into the issue of a propane tank on a unit. FM Zamora stated that the propane tank is under the steps and not on the deck or near the sea wall and it is ventilated. o 9 issued; 1 concrete, 2 removal of park model, 1 dock, 2 deck, 2 reconstructions & 1 storage building. Projects o Two hot tub filters has been replaced o Sewer line on 765 has been repaired and all that is needed is to repave the road o There are 24 new plastic card tables thanks to the D & E committee o 13 drain grills are being built. They are being built by Alex from Maintenance and the cost is approximately $250 with labor. If they are purchased the cost would be $1,000 each. FM Zamora presented pictures of the drain grills. o The lift station pump has been replaced. The pump had been there for 15 years. The cost of the new pump is approximately $3,200. We left off with having established a new Library area with Judy Voss as Head Librarian, several “Bookends” (our volunteers), some donated books and a little money still left over from the endowment given by the Hamilton family. Judy Voss and Margaret Hunnicutt used these funds to purchase tables, chairs, and sofas to suitably furnish the ‘Front’ room. The Decoration Committee graciously volunteered to turn over their storage room to the Library for additional closet space. By the end of the year the Library desperately needed more space. Judy was now serving on the Board of Directors and approached her fellow Board Members with the idea of using one of the attached rooms that had been a dining area for the grill. The Board Agreed. They not only moved the Ceramic Club storage to a new area, they also very generously gave the Library the now abandoned ‘kitchen’ room. This completed the four room complex we have today. Now the team for the fledgling Library wanted to come up with a continuous cash flow for purchasing new books. The Voss’s came up with a unique plan. Recycling aluminum cans. They donated their open trailer to the Library to haul the cans. Not only did it provide much needed income for the Library it eliminated at least 300 lbs. of garbage in the dumpsters every month. A win-win solution! Today there are several volunteers that pick up the cans at each trash area and collect them after all the events, meetings and cocktail parties. Once again this Community proved that it could work together for a good cause. Thank you Gentlemen! Early on, the Head Librarian also came up with the idea and formula for creating a much needed Village Phone Directory. Today those sales are a big source of Library funding. The Library’s collection of materials never stagnates. New ideas and trends have added to its usefulness. For instance, many years ago, when VCR tapes became popular they were given a section. Of course, now they are all but obsolete. Today’s current choice for movie enthusiasts is the DVD. We now have over 1200 DVD’s in the collection and add new titles every month! Just in case books and movies aren’t your ‘thing’. Here are a few more of the resources available to all our residents; • Sit comfortably and work on your computer using the Village’s Wi-Fi, or, peruse the latest Port Isabel newspapers, popular magazines, Board meeting minutes and LIV Newsletter editions. • Choose from the large collection of Audio books for those of you who like to listen to wonderful actors and storytellers reading your favorite tales. • Come in and work on the current jigsaw puzzle, or take some home, there are dozens of puzzles to choose from • Owners and renters have also made the Library a depository for unused medical equipment and household objects. These important and often needed items are loaned out, free of charge to owners. Ask a ‘Bookend Volunteer’ about the inventory. Funding for the Library is an on-going project. However, reading material donations, Trash & Treasure profits, sales of duplicate and discarded books, cash donations, late fees, Phone Directory income and recycling can dollars have made the Library completely self-sustaining! Today there are 20-25 ‘Bookends’ that staff the Library. They are happy to help you find what you like to read and view. Please continue to save those cans and donate your old reading material but most of all…..give all the Volunteers a Thank You and smile for all they do for your community.
OBITUARY Gerald (Jerry) Kelly 82, 112 E. Scallop passed away May 15, 2013. He and his wife Beverly had been in Long Island Village for the past 20 years. He is survived by his wife Beverly , two sons and 1 daughter. Jerry was busy in his early years in Long Island Village with windsurfing and sailing. Golfing and carving were also among his hobbies. He will be missed by his family and many friends.

VP Pelletier made a motion to accept the variance for Sea Cottage 109 to install an elevator on the outside of the sea cottage as per the drawings received on April 10, 2013. SUMMER FAMILY FUN Summer fun officially kicked off in LIV Saturday evening, May 25th, with a Memorial Day “Meet & Greet” family dance. “Cool” Raul Moreno, our resident D.J., knew exactly what tunes to spin to get the young and the “young at heart” up & dancing. Families were encouraged to bring their own libations & snacks but the Summer D & E team had popcorn, nachos, pickles, cold water, candy & margaritas available for donations. Saturday, June 8th was the 3rd annual LIV Fishing Tournament. Attendance was up this year with 16 teams vying for the top prizes. Melinda Dunk from Texas Parks and Wildlife officiated, weighing in trout & redfish from each team. No one caught flounder. The temperature was soaring so the Summer D & E had hot dogs, chips, beer & ice cold water available to each team as they raced to beat the 3:30 weigh in deadline. Many of the teams consisted of well know LIV families. “CONGRATULATIONS” to Team Villarreal (guided by Grandpa AC Deanda) who caught the largest Redfish measuring 27.5 inches long and tipping the scales at 5.82 lbs. and Team Wernecke bringing in a 24 & 3/8” Trout weighing 4.4 lbs. The event raised $800 to be put towards the employee Chistmas bonuses.

Hear the joyous music of Christmas at a variety of inspiring concerts. Bring Sweden home for Christmas.
DAY 1: Friday, December 6
Departure from U.S.A. ((D on flight) Depart on your overnight transatlantic flight for Stockholm, Sweden.
DAY 2: Saturday, December 7
Stockholm (B on flight, D) Arrive at Stockholm, Arlanda Airport. You will be met by your tour guide / escort who will be with you for the entire tour. Enjoy a guided tour of Wonderous Stockholm which will include The City Hall, The Wasa Ship Museum, and a view from Fjellgatan Street, the hightst point in Stockholm, where you can look out over the archipelago to get a true view of this island city. Visit The Christmas Markets in Historic Gamla Stan (Old Town), The Oldest Part of Stockholm. Dinner at the hotel tonight.
DAY 3: Sunday, December 8
Stockholm (B,D) Today visit the famous open-air museum of Skansen as you attend the Skansen Christmas Fair. Enjoy traditional handcrafts, homemade breads, cakes, sausages, candles, music and dancing. Church services and advent music will be held at the Seglora Church. You will be free to enjoy the day at your leisure. In the late afternoon attend the Luia Christmas Concert to hear the beautiful music so special at this time of year. This evening enjoy a huge Christmas Smorgasbord with five enormous cources of delicious Swedish cuisine.
DAY 4: Monday, December 9
Stockholm - Ruttvik (B,D) Free time this morning to explore Stolkholm. Of interest on your own: The Royal Crown Jewels can be viewed in the basement vault of the Royal Palace, museums and shopping. Transfer to your motor coach for a ride through the beautiful Swedish countryside to Rattvik in the tradition rich province of Dalarna. Check-in at the Dala Wardshus Hotel, your home for the next four nights. Your hosts Billy and Lena Hoglund and their staff are here to help you experience the traditions of a Swedish Christmas in this small community of cozy log cabins, quaint shops and beautiful scenery. December 10, 11 & 12 Rattvik - Lake Siljan area (B,D) Spend the next three days exploring the beautiful Lake Sikjan area. At Nusnas, visit the workshop of Nils Olsson. Watch as expert craftsmen carve and paint genuine Mora Dala Horses right before your eyes. Enjoy plenty of time to look around or relax. Shop in the extensive gift shop or enjoy a cup of coffee or some sweets at the coffee shop. Stroll across the street to Grannas Olsson’s for more shopping. Day trips also include a visit to Tomteland (the Swedish version of Santa’s North Pole) where you will see live reindeer and meet the Christmas Witch. Enjoy a tour of the home and studio of beloved artist Carl Larsson, and in the town of Mora tour the amazing home or renowned artist Anders Zonn. Near Mora, visit the island of Sotteron on Lake Siljan to shop at Johnson’s Hemslojd. At your hotel enjoy the outdoors by building a snowman or take a sleigh ride through the beautiful winter forest. In the evenings, inside the coze warmth of the main lodge, learn the dtiquette of drinking the Swedish Christmas drink of Glogg. Make your own Swedish style Christmas decorations and learn to carve your own Dala Horse and paint in the traditional “kurbits” style. Enjoy fun filled Christmas dance games and delightful music.

On your own, perhaps return to The Christmas Markets for shopping or explore the city and discover enlightening museums, like The Wasa Ship Museum and The Skansen open-air museum.
