9 REGULAR BOARD MEETING January 22, 2014

Edwin “Ed” Kriz Obituary

Approval of the December 18, 2013 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes Assistant Secretary Gunderson moved to accept the minutes as presented. Director McBride seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion Passed.

Edwin A. Kriz, 81,556 Sand Dollar Dr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 1st at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen, TX. Ed was born August 19, 1932 in Racine, WI. Ed graduated from Lutheran High School in 1950. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1952 during the Korean Conflict. After electronics training at Great Lakes Navel Station, Ed served aboard the USS Des Moines, the flagship of the 6th fleet in the Mediterranean Sea.

Pool Bids - TRE Steffensen TRES Steffensen discussed the need for multiple repairs at the outdoor pool which include broken plaster on the floor, steps, a light, as well as the need to install an additional drain that is needed for compliance. She listed various contributors to the deterioration of the plaster ranging from the use of chemicals in maintaining the pools to not having the correct size pipes for the return flow. She added that most companies only give a 1 year warranty on re-plastering repairs and it has been about 5 years since the last repairs.

Ed married his wife of 46 years, Darlene in 1968. They share four children and six grandchildren., Ed worked at AT&T for 31 years, working in Palmyra, WI as a microwave technician. His career took him to Chicago, IL, New York, NY, Kankakee, IL and Norway, IL. He served as Operations Manager prior to his retirement in 1987.

Treasurer Steffensen made a motion to accept the bid from Valley Plastering for $2,425 to repair the broken plaster, light, and install an additional drain. Director McBride seconded the motion. Floor opened for discussion. All in favor. Motion Passed.

Ed and Darlene lived in Sandwich IL for 27 years and wintered in Long Island Village more then 30 years taking up permanent residence in 2009. They are members of Fishers Of Men Lutheran Church in Port Isabel.

Director McBride made a motion to include an opinion poll in the election packet which would ask for the owners opinion on the proposal to line up mailboxes with lot numbers. Assistant Secretary Gunderson seconded the motion. Floor opened for discussion. After a lengthy discussion, it was agreed that the opinion poll would be included as presented. All in favor. Motion Passed.

Long Island Village Rally for Cancer Research

Director McBride restated his motion to read that presentations, on the 28’ on the longest side building rule, by the Building Committee, management, owners and private contractors, be allowed to come before the board at the next Coffee with the Directors scheduled for February 19,2014. Assistant Secretary Gunderson seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion Passed. Speed Humps - AS Gunderson & DIR McBrideTRE Steffensen reported that the bids ranged from $4,050, $3,075, to $4,200 and only one bid specified that the reflective paint was included. AS Gunderson asked what the bid amount was for the one that included the reflective paint. TRE Steffensen stated that it was the $3,075 bid. Assistant Secretary Gunderson made a motion to accept the $3,075 bid to install 3 speed humps and add reflective paint and signage in accordance with state regulations. Secretary Vasquez seconded the motion. Floor opened for discussion. Discussion closed. On Friday, February 14th, Long Island Village held its first Annual Cancer Research Golf Rally. 132 golfers and numerous volunteers made it a huge success. We want to Thank ALL of you who made this such a fun wonderful event (Would love to name names, but there just isn’t enough space in this newsletter!) Special THANKS TO RUTH GALOW – Without her great idea and wonderful organizational skills it would not have happened. The raffle prizes and many hole sponsorships donated by local merchants played a HUGE part in the success of this event. Thanks to the following businesses, we were able to donate over $8, 000 to the American Cancer Society for Cancer Research.
