Summer in LIV… IT’S ALL ABOUT THE KIDS!!

Robert G. Hamilton Memorial Library

Friday, June 14th was LIV’s first Movie Night for the kids. The summer D & E had a screen set up outside the maintenance area & showed “The Goonies”. A second Movie Night was held Friday, June 28th, and featured “The Sandlot”. The screen was permanently moved to the maintenance wall next to the Pro Shop for the remainder of the summer. The D & E sold popcorn, pickles, and a variety of goodies. What a success!!! Golf carts & folding chairs……it kind of reminded us of our family outings to the drive-in movies when we were kids!

by: Judy Voss, Chairman E-mail: voss828@att.net

June 22nd was Super Soaker Saturday! Better known as the much loved “Pool Olympics”….and believe me….the pool was packed! Kids of all ages were competing with sling shots & water balls, Simon Say’s and of course the water balloon toss. A big “thank you” goes out to all the volunteers who put themselves in the line of fire…Annita White, Flora & Gundy Gunderson, Rick & Vivian Contos, Ally Champion & Ed McBride.

The fun didn’t end there…….that Saturday evening…….after a short dinner break (hamburgers & hotdogs at the “Poolside Grill”) Leroy Barrera & Deana Dolphin set up the Karaoke machine. Once again the young & the “young at heart” mixed it up singing everything from hip – hop and Country Western to beloved Mexican ballads. LIV rolled out its version of Patriotism on July 4th when 60 + decorated Golf Carts lined up in the Event Center parking lot. Actually there were 59 + Golf Carts and 1 hearty jogger with a baby stroller! I cannot begin to tell you what a proud moment it was! Roy Alvarez & his family won the “People’s Choice Award” for best decorated cart & our Jogger…..Ms. Robles won for her stamina & perseverance while jogging with baby & stroller. Our Patriotic Weekend ended on a happy note…..with the fabulous “Red, White & Blue Solo Cup Dance” Saturday night. All I can say is WOW! The Event Center was lit up with patriotic décor and approximately 300 residents ranging in age from 2 months (no exaggeration) to 85 (honestly!!). All were out on the floor dancing. 2 month old baby girl (Mia) was waltzed around the floor by proud papa, Dan Rodriquez, “Cool” Raul & son Kai while the table of LIV “Widow Ladies” had fun with some line dancing. Our resident DJ, “Cool” Raul Moreno did a tribute to our veterans, and we were honored to have Fire Fighter Mitch Moran present. Mitch is recuperating and visiting friends here in LIV after receiving severe burns in a massive fire in College Station, TX. All-in-all the dance was a giant success and the Summer D & E raised over $1,000 in donations to purchase a new Karaoke Machine for poolside Karaoke.
