Get those golf clubs shined up because I think we may have just what you’re looking for! Friday, February 14th, 2014 will be our first LIV Cancer Golf Rally. We are still working out the details but we wanted to make sure you put it on your calendar NOW. If you have any questions or want to volunteer to help out, talk to Ruth Galow. ATTENTION SOFTBALL PLAYERS We’re starting a Senior Softball League (55+) this winter in Port Isabel. Monday and Wednesday morning games each week from January through March. If interested or for more info contact Dan Schauer 956-943-4568 or Dick Stabler 956-943-1208.
Friends, fun, food and football! 120+ LIVer kicked off the holiday season at the annual Thanksgiving Day Community Pot Luck dinner in the holiday decorated club house with background music and the happy sounds of friends gathering to celebrate. Amid the twinkling lights and tinkling of wine glasses many agreed this was the best ever and it was an amazing site to see 48 feet of buffet table filled to capacity with homemade treats of a traditional Thanksgiving Feast and an additional 18 feet of buffet for desserts! There was plenty for seconds and take home dishes for many. We were touched by the words of a new owner who spoke of being alone on the holiday and how grateful he was to have the opportunity to share the day with others and make new friends. That’s what it is all about, we are neighbors, friends and family here and love being together on these special holidays. Hopefully you will make plans to join the community for Christmas and Easter Pot Luck meals. I will be gone for the last two this time but have already had a volunteer for Christmas Day and still hoping someone will step up for Easter. I am happy to share the plans I have ironed out over the years to make it easy for anyone wanting to have the opportunity of organizing these events, your heart will be filled with joy and warmth from the gratitude expressed by those who attend. Thanks Villagers for supporting me over the years, memories of these pot lucks will long be with me.

Manager’s Report – FM Zamora/GM Horner
FM Zamora presented his monthly reports and updates. o Maintenance Work Completed- Please see figure A-1 o FM Zamora announced that the Golf Committee would be contributing $2,500 to the retaining wall project on green #9 as the bid came in at $5,400 and only $3,000 was available. o Work Orders- Please see figure A-2 o FM Zamora reported that there were only 42 work orders as it was a slow month. o Building Permit Report- Please see figure A-3 o FM Zamora reported that they are running out of places to store dirt from new construction. AT Guerra asked FM Zamora if the contractors are dumping clean dirt or if the dirt is still being dumped with concrete, PVC pipe and rebar. FM Zamora stated that the dirt is clean but he voiced his concerns over the constant need to level the dirt. AT Guerra stated that a fee increase to compensate for the extra time and labor required in maintaining the excess dirt may be needed. o FM Zamora reported that the survey requested by the Board for lot 384 has been obtained. Past Due Condo Fee Report- Please see figure A-4 GM Horner advised the audience that two condo fee reports are being compiled in order to accurately report on the total condo fees that are outstanding. He reminded the audience that condo fees are due on the 10th. Condo fees are outstanding after the 10th but owners are extended a grace period of 15 days before a late charge is assessed. o (166) 1-15 days late ($100,138.00) o (01) 16-30 days late ($277.00) o (06) 31-59 days late ($4,808.00) o (01) 60 days late ($839.00) o (11) 90 days late ($24,089.50) Past due condo fees last month (not including those in grace period 1-15 days) totaled $34,460.00. 7 REGULAR BOARD MEETING
October 23, 2013
Approval of August 14, 2013 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes
AS Gunderson asked for clarification on a statement made by VP Pelletier. After a brief discussion, VP Pelletier and AS Gunderson agreed to modify Item D., on Page 5, by adding “will become”. AS Gunderson made a motion to accept the minutes as corrected. Director McBride seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion Passed. Director Ramirez made a motion to move forward with the Pink Water Irrigation System and to get the license agreement reviewed and signed immediately. Assistant Treasurer Guerra seconded the motion. A small discussion took place. Pres. Chapa stated that he had a motion and a second and asked for further discussion. Director McBride suggested that the motion be amended. Director Ramirez made a motion (amended) to accept the Pink Water Irrigation Proposal for the Long Island Village Golf Course. Assistant Treasurer Guerra seconded the motion. Floor opened for discussion. AS Gunderson stated that a separate meter for the pools will need to be installed to avoid sewer charges. Secretary Vasquez asked FM Zamora for the cost of the meter. FM Zamora stated that he did not have that information but would research the cost. Discussion closed. Pres. Chapa asked for a vote on the amended motion. All in favor. Motion Passed. Director Ramirez made a motion to have the nominees for the vacant seat on the Board come to the November Coffee with the Directors and introduce themselves to the members and answer questions. Floor opened for discussion. Director McBride asked that the motion be amended to include “and voted on at the December Board Meeting”. AT Guerra said” no” to the amendment request. Further discussion took place. Pres. Chapa asked if the original motion was still standing. The motion was confirmed. Secretary Vasquez seconded the motion. Vote-5 to 1. Motion Carried. For-Pelletier, Vasquez, Guerra, McBride, Ramirez. Against- Gunderson. VP Pelletier made a motion to accept the bid From R. Pizana Paving to seal coat the balance of the Welcome Center parking lot. Director McBride asked to amend the motion to include funds to change the lettering on the sign. AT Guerra informed Director McBride that any amendment to the motion would need to come from Secretary Vasquez. Secretary Vasquez agreed to amend his motion. Secretary Vasquez made a motion (amended) to add the Voss name to the library with the original name having top billing and to appropriate funds, not to exceed $500, to change the lettering on the library sign. VP Pelletier seconded the amended motion. All in favor. Motion Passed. Director Vasquez made a motion to approve the format and design for the RV & Utility Trailer Pass presented by GM Horner. AT Guerra seconded the motion. Floor opened for discussion. GM Horner stated that appropriate verbiage would be added to the pass. AT Guerra asked GM Horner to confirm that the pass would be per vehicle and not per lot. GM Horner affirmed that it was per vehicle “or per owner”. No further discussion. All in favor. Motion Passed. Secretary Vasquez made a motion to amend Policy 3.4 by adding the 3 clauses requested by GM Horner. VP Pelletier seconded the motion. Floor opened for discussion. Pres. Chapa advised the audience that the BOD’s goal was primarily to retrieve owner stickers that are no longer valid and they were aware that the policy may not be perfect. GM Horner added that his primary goal is to prevent unauthorized use of the amenities. Pres. Chapa asked if there was further discussion. AT Guerra asked that the motion be restated. GM Horner stated that the motion was to amend Policy 3.4 which relates to owner’s stickers by adding (1)the surrender of owner’s stickers at closing if the person no longer owns property and (2) the return of owner’s sticker upon sale or transfer of a vehicle or (3) the return of owner’s sticker upon changing of a windshield. AT Guerra asked FM Zamora to share with the Board his response on how the association could require the title companies to cooperate. FM Zamora replied that the request could be added to the Resale Certificate filled out by management. Secretary Vasquez announced that he wanted it noted that although GM Horner had restated the motion, the motion before the board was Secretary Vasquez’s motion. Pres. Chapa stated that he had a motion and a second. All in favor. Motion Passed. AS Gunderson made a motion to open the Village Grill on Dec. 1st. Director McBride seconded the motion. Pres. Chapa opened the floor for discussion. VP Pelletier stated that it would be more feasible to open the grill on the day after Christmas as that is when the park starts getting busy. Secretary Vasquez concurred with VP Pelletier. A discussion took place over the impact of opening or delaying the reopening of the grill. Director McBride suggested that opening it on Dec. 1st would give a newly hired Village Grill Manager and a new staff a chance to work out all the kinks before it gets busy. He added that having them start off in the middle of the season is setting them up to fail. Pres. Chapa suggested changing the date to a Monday, December 2, 2013 rather than a Sunday. AS Gunderson stated that she had no problem amending her motion to state Dec. 2nd. AT Guerra asked GM Horner for his recommendation. GM Horner stated that he would recommend December 15th as it would still allow the staff time to adjust. After another brief discussion, AS Gunderson made a motion (amended) to open the Village Grill on Dec. 15, 2013. Secretary Vasquez seconded the motion. No further discussion. All in favor. Motion passed. President Chapa called for recess at 10:50 AM for executive session to begin. Executive session The board meeting resumed at 12:05 PM after executive session. VP Pelletier made a motion to send a letter to the owners of lot 671 notifying them of violation of their property and asking them to appear before the board on November 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Director McBride seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion Passed. VP Pelletier made a motion to send a letter to the owners of lot 384 notifying them of violation on their property and asking them to appear before the board on November 13, 2013 at 11:15 AM. Director McBride seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion Passed. AS Gunderson made a motion to adjourn. Director McBride seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion passed. Adjournment at 12:15 PM.
