Come on in, We think you will be pleased…

Bridge Notice As most of you know the Barge portion of the swing bridge is nearly 30 years old and is approaching the end of its expected lifespan. The Bridge Board is preparing contingency plans for its replacement or reconstruction. The Marine surveyor has examined the barge and with continued full time maintenance it may have a remaining life of 2 to 3 years. We are seeking ways to extend that life and one is to reduce the number of times the Bridge must open. The Coast Guard regulations require that we open on the hour for private vessels and on demand for Commercial. The present policy of opening on demand for private vessels on the weekends is creating long and frequent wait times for Bridge traffic. In order to reduce the wear and tear on the machinery the Bridge Board will decide at the next regular meeting if we should go back to the original requirement of opening on the hour for private vessels all days of the week. While this change may require some planning for boat traffic to work to the hourly schedule it will extend the life of the equipment and allow car traffic to schedule their crossing times with minimal delays. All of this with no cost impact. And you can get to Church on time!
