Pete Charlwood, Head Coach
Academy Head Coach is Pete Charlwood, EBBA Level 2 Coach, who is also a full-time teacher at the college and course team leader for A Level Physical Education.
Pete has coached at all levels of the game and brings a wide range of experience as coach for the National League basketball club and Academy partner, Cambridge Cats, as well as coaching for the Cambridgeshire County U17s, East Region U17s (Head Coach) and England U17s.
STUDY AND TRAIN An integrated programme.
NUTRITION FOR BASKETBALL You will receive advice on nutrition for basketball including what is best to eat during the week, prior to training and on game days.
TRAINING & TUITION You will get 8 hours of high-quality player-centred training per week from our in-house professional coach.
STRENGTH & CONDITIONING Part of your training sessions will be spent on strength and conditioning training including full access to the college fitness suite.
WEEKLY COMPETITION Access to a range of high-level national competition through both the college and our partner club, Cambridge Cats. Competitions include: ABL and National Schools Competitions, U18 NBL Conference, and Mens NBL Div 4.
VIDEO ANALYSIS You will be individually videoed using the latest in advanced video analysis software. You will receive individual analysis on your shooting technique and other aspects of the game.
We will provide you with a fully-integrated timetable, combining your studies, a complete programme of basketball training, and competition
The basketball programme is timetabled to work alongside your acadamic studies at Long Road Sixth Form College, whether you're studying A Levels, Level 3 Applied Diplomas or Access to Level 3 studies.

TEAMS, LEAGUES & COMPETITIONS Long Road Basketball Academy provides you with the opportunity to play basketball at a range of levels from local schools and colleges to full regional and national league competitions. This enables all players to compete at a level appropriate to their individual skill and ability, enabling them to maximise their development and growth potential.
The Academy competes in the ABL (Academies Basketball League), the second highest tier in English Basketball for schools and colleges at U19 level, along with Basketball England National Schools Competition at U19 Conference level.
Through our partnership with NBL Club Cambridge Cats you will also have access to NBL Competitions both at U18 level and Men's Division 4.
THE PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE We aim to achieve the goal of giving you the experience of being a professional athlete.
All academy players receive a Player Performance Manual. This enables players to log and track their development ad progress over the 2 - 3 years that they are on the academy.
We video all home hames and use them for game analysis
