University Events Are you thinking about going to university? Maybe you’ve already applied. Well then, we have some good news. Our Progress Coach team have put together a couple of events to help you think about where you want to go, what you want to study, and practical help with choosing accommodation.

University Advance Workshop “What do I need to think about when accepting university offers?” This Advance Workshop is aimed at students who are thinking of applying, and also students who have already applied to university. The workshops are running this week Monday to Friday. See poster for dates and times when you can come along.

Oxbridge & Sutton Trust Event “Do you want to find out more about applying to Oxbridge and Sutton Trust University Summer School?” As you may know, getting a place at either Cambridge or Oxford university is extremely challenging and competitive. If you are considering applying, this event is perfect for you. You can also learn about Sutton Trust University Summer School, a programme that gives you the opportunity to experience what university life is really like.

Apprenticeship Evening Our hardworking careers team have organised the Apprenticeship Evening, which will take place on Wednesday 7th February from 5-8pm. This event has become so popular that it is now ticketed, and you will need a ticket in order to attend. The event will include a wide range of employers, as well as talks about apprenticeships from guests speakers from Form The Future. There will also be food vans, so if you wanted to get your hands on some Sri Lankan food and some donuts while you’re here you are more than welcome! Tickets are free, and you can book your place here.

International Women’s Day Last year, we held an event in the Student Centre for International Women’s Day. The event included an interactive art display, a digital treasure hunt, an authors board and book display, colouring in, movie rooms, and more. And lots of you wore purple, which was amazing to see. This year we are hoping to do the same again, and we would really appreciate your help. The event will be taking place on Friday 8th March. Email studentservices@longroad.ac.uk and let us know if you would like to volunteer to help with planning International Women’s Day 2024.

Coming To College One last thing, this month includes some changes to the usual timetable. On the 15th and 16th February we have Admissions Days for year 11 students. This means that, unless you have a criminology assessments, you will not need to come to college. Likewise, you will not have to come in during half term, which is 19th to 23rd of February (unless you have been told otherwise!). And finally, there are mock exams taking place during your first week back. Please keep an eye on your emails to see if you lessons are taking place as usual.
