International Women’s Day

Friday 8th March is International Women’s Day, and just like last year, we will be organising an event in the Student Centre to celebrate. This year’s theme is #InspireInclusion, so we have done our best to make sure everyone is welcome and represented, no matter what you are interested in. Come join us from 9am onwards, see the poster below for more on what to expect.

What To Expect

Bake Sale

Would you like to do something good for charity? Do you also like cake? Well have we got some good news for you! During break and lunch time on Friday, we will be doing a bake sale to raise money for Women’s Aid. The suggested donation is only £1.

A massive thank you to the Food Centre for donating cupcakes to the bake sale.

Sports Events

The wonderful team in the Sports Centre have organised some sports challenges and events for the day. Fancy your arm in a basketball challenge? Maybe you ’ re a table tennis wizard? Even if you just wanted to come and watch, head to the Sports Centre between 12:304:00 All proceeds go to Women’s Aid, and there are prizes to be won too!

Below are some events linked with International Women’s Day that take place outside of college These events are not affiliated with Long Road, but we thought you might be interested in them.

Women in Science Festival

The Women in Science Festival is an annual event run by Robinson College Cambridge, designed to inspire and encourage young women and non-binary students in to pursue scientific study at university.

The festival will be held at Robinson College from Monday 8th April to Tuesday 9th April. Click the poster for more information.

Reclaim the Night

Reclaim the Night is an annual march that takes place in Cambridge and other places around the country. Organised by Cambridge Students’ Union, the march is a night for women and non-binary people to walk the streets in protest of harassment and sexual assault. The event starts at Parkers Piece at 6pm with a rally and speaches, and will march through the city on a pre-approved route guided by trained stewards. Click the poster for more information.

VR Employability Workshop

Would you like to practice your interview skills?

Our careers team have organised an event so that you can attend a virtual reality job interview simulation. They run 30-minute sessions, and you will be able to get feedback on your technique, ways in which you can improve, and learn how to give the best interview possible Click the photo for more information.

If you are going to university this year, you may be interested in the Advance workshops taking place this week. They focus on Student Finance and the next steps for university, and will arm you with the information you need to be confident and comfortable during your time studying. Sessions take place Monday - Friday at 11:35 in the LRC and are only 25 minutes long No need to book a place, just turn up!

Aimed at Year 1 students, this event takes place today (Wednesday 6th March) in the LRC from 2:40 - 3:15. Aim Higher is a series of events that will help guide you through to your UCAS application in approximately a years time. Covering topics such as Russell Group Universities, degree apprenticeships, workshops and guest speakers, Aim Higher is invaluable for those who want to apply to university and get the most out of it. Advance: Student Finance Aim Higher Launch Mock Interviews

On Tuesday 12th March, you will have the opportunity to have a mock interview with a recruitment professional. These friendly volunteers will help you test your interview skills and provide feedback to help you secure future jobs You can book your place by clicking here.
