Culture Day

Culture Day is back! After a very successful debut, Culture Day is back for the second year running and promises to be bigger and better than ever! The event will take place on Wednesday 1st May 10:30 - 16:00

For those that don’t know, this is a student-led event and it is organised almost entirely by the Multicultural Society. At Long Road, we are extremely proud to host this event. If you would like to volunteer to assist with the planning and organising, they are on the lookout for volunteers!

If you don’t wish to volunteer, you can still take part. Students are encouraged to dress up to represent your country.

Voices of Long Road Podcast

Did you know that Long Road has it’s own podcast? Your hosts Hadi and Riley will be discussing a variety of topics related to student life, including world events, upcoming events, and things that matter to you as a student The podcast is run entirely by students, and you can your input into what is discussed and give feedback.

Brothers Through Boxing

Brothers Through Boxing is a non-contact boxercise and fitness programme designed to help 16 - 25 year old males live happier, longer lives This programme tackles male isolation and loneliness by increasing social connection. The project is funded by Movember, a charity formed in 2003 with the aim to raise awareness of men ’ s health issues. To find out more about Movember, click here.

The Long Lens is a film magazine that has been developed and run by students and staff from Long Road since 2020. The latest edition’s theme is animation, and features fascinating articles on topics such as The History of Animation, The Male Gaze, Film Posters, Why Representation Matters, and more!

The Long Lens is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in a career in journalism, writing, or publishing, and they are currently recruiting for the following roles:

Long Road have been running Open Mic sessions for a number of years now, and the next one will take place on May 22nd. Want to get involved? You can email Liz Rowlands for further info, at erowlands@longroad.ac.uk.

Work Experience

If you ’ re a year 12 or 13 and have an interest in accountancy, then look no further than this amazing opportunity! The NHS are looking for students to do work experience placements in Cambridge from 1st - 5th July.

For those of you who are part of the Aim Higher group, you will already know that we are going to visit the University of Warwick on Thursday 16th May. This is an exciting opportunity to visit a highly competitive campus-based university. To confirm coach size we need to know if you are planning to come. We will confirm later, but price will be around £23. Please indicate on the form if you are in receipt of financial support. Sign up here. Please note, this form does not confirm your place. It is simply an indicator of interest. We will let you know how to pay and confirm next week. Keep an eye on your emails so you don’t miss out.

Centre 33 Drop-in Extras University of Warwick Trip

On Tuesday 30th April, there will be a Centre 33 drop-in session in the Student Centre from 12:00 - 14:00. This is targeted at Young Adult Carers, but the wonderful people at Centre 33 are always happy to talk to students about how they can access other types of support.

Pride Club

Pride Club is on Tuesdays from 12:25 - 13:05 in E3 This term, the activities include jewellery making, drag make-up session, and Pride Corner Project. The Pride Corner Project aims to increase pride visibility in the college by making certain areas more vibrant.

Earth Day first took place in 1970 and since then has evolved into the largest civic event on earth, encouraging billions of people to safeguard our planet. This year ’ s theme is Planet vs Plastics, and on 22nd April 2024 Earth Day will be advocating for the widespread awareness on the health risk of plastics and attempting to rapidly phase out all single use plastics. Do your part and sign the Global Plastics Treaty here.

Our wonderful Youth Social Action Apprentice, Charlotte, will have an information stand in the Quad from 10:30 - 13:00 on Wednesday 24th April with more chances to get involved.
