This is the last newsletter of the year and we would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has read, supported, and contributed to the newsletter!

Green Careers Fair

Back in November, our careers team put together their first careers fair specifically for students looking at green jobs. This included visits from:

Cambridge Regional College

Our Pride club has been running for a number of years now, but the first session this year involved painting pebbles and arts and crafts. The pictures don’t do it justice, but it was very popular!

Winter Concert

To help us get into the Christmas spirit, our wonderful music students and members of our music department put together a Winter Concert. The event was a massive success, being at full capacity and everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves!

Winter Fair & Jimmy’s Fundraiser

The Winter Fair was one of the first projects undertaken by our amazing Youth Social Action Apprentice, Charlotte Smith. It was a massive success, and included free hot chocolate, games, crafts, films, and a fundraiser for Jimmy’s Shelter.

Politics and History

Students visit Parliament

In January our Politics teacher and Parliamentary Ambassador, Gavin, led a trip of 58 students to London to see the UK Parliament at Westminster and the UK Supreme Court. Shout out to the cheeky student even managed to get a selfie with Jacob Rees-Mogg!

Wellbeing Fair

Our amazing Safeguarding team put together a Wellbeing Fair back in February. Our two regular therapy dogs, Jasper and Barnaby, both attended and were very good boys!

Endometriosis Bake Sale & Clothes Swap

We did a bake sale and clothes swap in aid of Endometriosis UK back in January. Students managed to raised £376.65 and recycled over 34kg of clothes!

Singapore

The Turing Scheme is a government funded initiative to give students the opportunity to study abroad. Long Road’s bid was successful thanks to our assistant principal Chris Childs, and in March students and staff spent 13 nights exploring the wonderful (and very hot) country of Singapore.

International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day at Long Road was commemorated for the second consecutive year. The event featured various activities such as arts and crafts, quizzes, a bake sale, interactive art exhibits, and more. Additionally, we successfully raised £185.86 for the Cambridge charity Women’s Aid.

Basketball Nationals

In April, our men ’ s and women ’ s basketball teams competed in the AoC Sport National Championships in Nottingham. Both teams played very well and so did the 2 badminton players who were also competing.

Culture Day

How could we forget Culture Day?! An amazing way to round off the year, this event was organised entirely by students of the Multicultural Society as well as volunteers. They should be very proud, as the event was a massive success and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. And yes, we couldn’t leave out that photo in the middle. Run, Row, or Cycle for Cancer Research �� Cancer Has No Colours

13-Mile Walk for Alzheimer’s Society

Owen Pile, Long Road’s sociology and economics guru, will be doing a 13-mile walk along the Cotswolds in aid of people affected by Alzheimer's disease. You can show your support here!

Men’s Health Week

Brothers Through Boxing ��

Non-contact fitness programme design to help young men aged 16 - 25. On Tuesdays 2:404:30 in the Student Centre you can come along and talk through whatever is on your mind whilst exercising and doing some padwork. Click the photo to sign up or just turn up and say hi to Joe!

C-Card Scheme

Long Road have run the C-Card Scheme for a number of years, meaning young people (not just men) can get access to free sexual health products in and out of college. To sign up, you can speak to one of our safeguarding team. Email wellbeing@longroad.ac.uk for more info.

Scavenger Hunt

Wellbeing Co-ordinator extraordinaire Lisa Verrier has organised a Long Road student scavenger hunt. Scan QR codes and complete the activities and you will be entered into a prize draw for a mystery prize! More info to come, keep an eye on your emails.

ARU’s Character Design Summer School

Explore the process of designing and developing a great character that connects with a teenage audience. This project from ARU is complete free and aimed at students in year 12. If you are interested in game design, illustration, animation, graphic novels, or brands, this might just be for you! Voices of Long Road Podcast Applications

Would you like to be the next host of the Voices of Long Road Podcast? If you are interested in media, editing, or just like to talk, this opportunity will help you develop your confidence, communication skills, and teamwork. You will be committed to one filming session a week with the aim of releasing weekly episodes. Deadline is 1st July and interviews will be conducted by the end of the year. Summer Sports Update

Pride Club - Pebble Painting

On Wednesday 19th June our Pride Club will be doing some pebble painting. Some of you may remember this was the first activity our Pride Club did at the start of the year, so it’s a nice way to come full circle Held in the Student Centre from 12:20 - 13:05, come along, relax, and show your creative flair!

Tiger Bus Pass

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority has just launched their Tiger Pass, offering bus travel for just £1 for under 25's! The bus pass is free of charge and designed to make public transport more affordable for young people. You can use your Tiger Pass with any of the following operators:
