For Campus and Community LeTourneau University's $180M Campaign for a Better Future

LeTourneau University has embarked on a comprehensive fundraising campaign that will invest millions in the Longview and East Texas economy, invest in the university’s unique mission, and expand the university’s contribution to education and workforce development in our region. The Build with Purpose Campaign was launched publicly at an event at LeTourneau’s Belcher Center on October 4, following a quiet phase of fundraising. At the kickoff event, LeTourneau University President and Longview Chamber Board Member Steven Mason announced a total campaign goal of $180M, more than five times larger than any campaign in the university’s history, with well over $100M already raised. “Just a few years ago, we could hardly have imagined a campaign that would make this kind of difference for LeTourneau and Longview, but it’s clear that God is working beyond our imaginations, including through the incredible generosity of members of our Longview community.”

The campaign is the culmination of several years of planning with university constituents and members of the Longview community, which the university says have created a slate of fourteen projects designed to maximize the university’s impact as a national leader in career-focused, top-quality Christian higher education. Together, Vice President for Development Terry Zietlow, Ph.D., says the

projects are designed to strengthen the university’s Christian identity, keep the university at the forefront of applied learning, attract and retain exceptional faculty, and ensure the university’s education is financially accessible to students.

In November, the university broke ground on the campaign's first project, a 120,000 sq.-ft. indoor athletic facility housing a championship-level indoor track as well as tennis and pickleball courts, golf simulation bays, and other athletic facilities. The Athletic and Human Performance Air Dome will host not only university events, but also youth, club, and prep competitions in track and field, basketball, and volleyball and community events and trade shows. As a draw for regional and national sports tourism, the $29M

facility will contribute on an ongoing basis to the local economy. The $29M project is slated for completion in the spring of 2026.

Other local-interest projects include expanding LeTourneau’s Aviation campus at East Texas Regional Airport. The expanded Abbott Aviation Center will include new lab spaces to accommodate growing enrollments and provide world-class education for training aircraft pilots, maintenance technicians, and others.

On the university’s main campus, it plans to build a new 90,000 sq.-ft. building for laboratories and classrooms in Engineering, Computer Science, and Business. The juxtaposition of Engineering and Business is part of an intentional strategy on the university’s part intended to prepare engineers for market- and management-facing roles and to prepare business students for increasingly technological industries. The facility will include event space for community use, high-tech labs in finance trading, cybersecurity, manufacturing processes, and biomedical engineering, and collaborative areas for the project-based learning at the core of LeTourneau’s education curriculum.

The university hopes to expand the impact of its Center for Counselling to south Longview, invest in other academic programs, and dramatically increase scholarships for students, ensuring the university’s continued accessibility to students from East Texas and beyond.

The university continues to raise funds for all projects and will initiate them as they are funded. For more information concerning the campaign, projects, or university, visit letu.edu/build or contact the Office of Development at development@letu.edu.
