Our World of Music Series also features two exciting and unique performances including tango and live theatrical literature.

Classical Series Our Classical Series presents some of today’s best artists performing masterworks for the piano and voice.

Holiday Series The sounds of the season resonate throughout our Gardens with our musically inspired holiday display. A Longwood Christmas features free and ticketed holiday-themed performances the whole family will delight in.

Jazz Series This series showcases Grammy Award-winning jazz icons guaranteed to thrill, including the return of Longwood favorite, Cécile McLorin Salvant.

Organ Series We continue to share our founder Pierre S. du Pont’s love of organ music by presenting concerts and holiday sing-alongs. This year, we’re welcoming back the 2016 Longwood Gardens International Organ Competition winner, Joshua Stafford, for his debut concert on The Longwood Organ.

Héctor Del Curto’s Eternal Tango Sunday, October 16 1 pm & 4 pm Praised by The New York Times as a “splendid player,” Argentinean bandoneonist Héctor Del Curto’s career, spanning for more than 25 years, has encompassed the traditional Tango, New Tango, Jazz, Classical and World music. Ken Cowan & Lisa Shihoten: Organ & Violin Concert Friday, November 18 8 pm Gracing stages together throughout Israel, Greece, Turkey, and the US, the critically acclaimed organist Ken Cowan who served as Head Judge for our 2016 International Organ Competition, and violinist Lisa Shihoten combine forces in an exciting program of works for violin and organ featuring composers such as Saint-Säens, Barber, and Korngold’s Garden Scene from “Much Ado About Nothing.”

Cathie Ryan’s Irish-American Christmas Wednesday, November 30 8 pm Irish singer Cathie Ryan and her awardwinning band celebrate a traditional Irish American Christmas with The Winter’s Heart®. From ethereal hymns to exuberant jigs and reels, The Winter’s Heart® revels in the wealth of Irish Christmas traditions including leaving a candle in the window to light loved ones home, hunting for the wren on St. Stephen’s Day, and more. The rituals of the Winter Solstice, for centuries considered a sacred time in Ireland, will also be honored in this beautiful program. Performance: The Ballroom $38/$32*

Etienne Charles A Creole Christmas Tuesday, November 29 8 pm Critically acclaimed for his exciting performances, thrilling compositions, and knack for connecting with audiences worldwide, Etienne Charles brings rhythms from the French, Spanish, English, and Dutch speaking Caribbean to the table. Featuring hits from his latest album, Creole Christmas, Etienne Charles celebrates the season with holiday favorites infused with a myriad of Afro-Caribbean rhythms. The Swingles Thursday, December 1 8 pm For more than half a century, The Swingles have pushed the boundaries of vocal music. The seven young singers that make up today’s London-based group are driven by the same innovative spirit that has defined the five-time Grammy award winners since they first made waves in the 1960s. With two new albums in 2015 (Deep End and Yule Songs Vol. II), The Swingles celebrate that legacy by starting a whole new chapter with a holiday-themed program sure to inspire. Farah Siraj Saturday, January 28 8 pm Named Jordan’s “Musical Ambassadress,” Jordanian virtuoso, Farah Siraj, balances a career that spans the United States, Europe and the Middle East. TimeOut New York’s “Norah Jones of the Middle East” has performed at some of the world’s most prestigious platforms, including the United Nations, The John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, Lincoln Center in New York, among others. Raved by Rolling Stone Magazine for her “vivacious Arabian flamenco jazz,” Farah Siraj tours with her latest release, Dunya, in continuation of spreading the message of peace through her music. The Travelin’ McCourys Saturday, February 4 8 pm Always different, always exciting, and always great music, The Travelin’ McCourys are a bluegrass band unlike any other. As the sons of bluegrass legend Del McCoury, Ronnie McCoury on mandolin and Rob McCoury on banjo continue their father’s work—a lifelong dedication to the power of bluegrass music to bring joy into people’s lives. Peter Richard Conte Friday, February 10 8 pm Peter Richard Conte, Longwood Gardens Principal Organist and the long-time organist at the Wanamaker Grand Court Organ, at Macy’s in Philadelphia, presents a program featuring transcriptions of Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier Suite and Four Last Songs with soprano Clara Rottsolk. Legendary pianist, Monty Alexander, has built a reputation exploring and bridging the worlds of American jazz, popular song, and the music of his native Jamaica. He has performed and recorded with artists from every corner of the music and entertainment world from Tony Bennett and Dizzy Gillespie to Clark Terry, Quincy Jones, and more.

Catherine Russell pushes her remarkable run of solo work to new heights, building on her already-considerable renown as one of the foremost interpreters and explorers of mid-20th century American music. For this night, Russell’s program Harlem On My Mind will see her and her quartet showcasing material from her September 2016 release.

Simone Dinnerstein Tuesday, February 28 8 pm Simone Dinnerstein is a critically lauded pianist characterized by her thoughtful and compelling interpretations that have captivated audiences all over the world. The New York-based pianist gained an international audience following the remarkable success of her recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations. Her Longwood program will feature a unique pairing of Franz Schubert’s Impromptus and Philip Glass’ Etudes. Performance: The Ballroom $35/$30*

Jeffrey Fowler Sunday, March 5 1 pm Organist, Jeffrey Fowler, has been working as a church musician in the Philadelphia and Detroit metropolitan areas since 1970. His performance highlights include performing for High Mass at the Vatican, the Michigan premiere of Olivier Messiaen’s complete monumental 90-minute work, Méditations sur le Mystère de la Sainte Trinité, and additional performances in Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. Dr. Fowler is adjunct professor of organ at Eastern University, and has been active with the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. A World of Music Series

Selected Shorts Tuesday, March 7 8 pm As one of the premiere reading series in New York City, Selected Shorts is a weekly public radio show broadcast on more than 130 stations to about 300,000 listeners. The Selected Shorts podcast consistently ranks as one of the most popular podcasts on iTunes. There is a theme to each Selected Shorts episode and performance. Several stories are presented around each theme. For Longwood, a special selection of stories revolving around gardens will be presented. Actors from stage and screen will share their talents. Danú’s St. Patrick’s Celebration Thursday, March 16 8 pm As one of the leading traditional Irish ensembles today, Danú takes their audiences on a musical journey to their native Ireland. Clair Rozier & Elivi Varga: Organ & Flute Concert Sunday, March 19 1 pm

Clair Rozier is the Director of Music and Organist at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Wayne, PA. Her organ recitals have taken her to London, Paris, and throughout the eastern and southern United States. Performing with Philadelphia flutist, Elivi Varga, the duo presents an afternoon of works for organ and flute.

Come experience an exciting organ performance by the most recent winner of the Longwood Gardens International Organ Competition. Joshua Stafford received the $40,000 Pierre S. du Pont First Prize, in June 2016, winning over the judges with his artistic skills and command of The Longwood Organ. Stafford is a Curtis Institute of Music and Yale School of Music alumnus.

DakhaBrakha Wednesday, March 22 8 pm Hailing from Kiev, Ukraine, DakhaBrakha reflects the fundamental elements of sound, soul, and “ethno-chaos” against a world of unexpected music. Accompanied by Indian, Arabic, African, Russian and Australian traditional instrumentation, this quartet’s astonishingly powerful and uncompromising vocal range creates a transnational sound rooted in Ukrainian culture. Cécile McLorin Salvant Friday, April 7 8 pm When she walked away with first place in the jazz world’s most prestigious and demanding competition, the 2010 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, the buzz began almost immediately, and Cécile McLorin Salvant has taken the jazz world by storm. McLorin Salvant performs unique interpretations of unknown and scarcely recorded jazz and blues compositions. She focuses on a theatrical, and sometimes ironic, portrayal of the jazz standard and is just beginning to compose her own instrumental pieces and songs. Performance: The Ballroom $38/$32*

Under the direction of Michael Hall, the Kennett Symphony presents an evening of Honegger, Mozart, Monti, and Mendelssohn. Opening the concert akin to an atmospheric musical impression of a peaceful early morning in summer will be Honneger’s Pastorale d’ete. The Kennett Symphony welcomes international flautist, Mimi Stillman, to perform Mozart’s elegant flute concerto and Monti’s virtuosic Czardas. The concert concludes with Mendelssohn’s clear and sunny representation of Italy. Cantus Thursday, April 20 8 pm Hailed by The Washington Post as having both “exalting finesse” and “expressive power,” the nine-member man’s vocal ensemble Cantus is known worldwide for its trademark warmth and its engaging performances of music ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st century. Cantus will perform their program No Greater Love Than This with songs dedicated to all soldiers of peace and war, from Antonín Dvořák, John Lennon, William Billings, and others. May Organ Series

David Furniss Sunday, May 7 1 pm David Furniss is the Minister of Music at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, a position he has held since 1987. As a concert organist, he has been invited to perform throughout the Philadelphia region and beyond, including international organ festivals in Oaxaca and Saltillo, Mexico.
