Can you find all the flock?
A new sheep-themed art trail launched Penistone is embracing a charming new art trail featuring whimsical sheep sculptures to captivate locals and visitors alike. Crafted by artist Michael Disley, these 11 woolly residents, fashioned from natural granite, can be found across town engaging in various activities, from cycling and roller-skating to football. The project pays homage to Penistone's rich heritage, rooted in centuriesold sheep sales, with the white-faced woodland breed known as Penistone sheep. Richard Wheeler: Man pleads guilty to fatal Sheffield city centre attack
Five "grazing" sheep benches, enhancing public spaces. Fans have already embraced the footballing sheep, named Penny, while the rest await monikers chosen in collaboration with local schoolchildren. Michael Disley, a seasoned stone sculptor, spearheaded this initiative, conducting granite-carving workshops titled School of Rock in local schools. This art trail is a delightful facet of our Principal Towns programme, aligning with commitment to invest in community vitality. To join the fun, share your sheep sightings on social media with #PenistoneSheep. As Cllr Janine Moyes expressed, “let's make Penistone a hub of joy and discovery.”
