Singing train conductor to perform home town gig in Stocksbridge

YORKSHIRE’S singing train conductor is to perform in his home town of Stocksbridge as part of debut album tour.

Paul Mirfin, better known as Yorkshire’s singing train conductor, started writing songs three years ago and has now released his debut album as well as touring with his band to California and UK festivals.

Few bands have been met with such a warm reception in their first year of playing together and the new line up for this album including Paul’s brother Ben (drums), Warren Timmis (guitar), Mark Boyle (banjo) and John Evamy (violin) have already been featured as track of the week on BBC Introducing, Songs of Praise, Premier Radio and TBN as well as playing to sell out venues at Harrogate Royal Hall and Joshua Fest in California.

The band have a unique folk rock sound combining references to Mumford & Sons in the musical arrangements with the influence of rock legends such as Johnny Cash. Paul’s gravelly tones and poetic lyrics allude to childhood years growing up in the steel town of Stocksbridge and his life as a railway worker and father.

The band have an amazing range of songs from upbeat hoedowns to stunning ballads such as ‘All I Want to Be’, a beautifully tender lullaby written by Paul for his daughter.

The Paul Mirfin Band will be performing at Christ Church Stocksbridge on Thursday October 18 at 7pm. Entry is free, and refreshments will be available.

Any donations towards refreshments will go towards the work of The Meeting Place Social Café which is based at Christ Church Stocksbridge, helping to reduce isolation and loneliness in the Stocksbridge area.
