Mountain Rescue called out to bikers

ON SATURDAY November 10, Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team were called out at 3.09pm, along with Edale Mountain Rescue Team, to assist Yorkshire Ambulance Service and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance with a seriously ill casualty in the Todwick Wood area.

The person’s exact location at the time was unknown but as mountain rescue members were on route, we was informed by YAS that the casualty had been located and their assistance was no longer required.

However, before the phone call had ended, the team were informed of an injured mountain biker in Grenoside Woods and all team members were redirected to the new location.

The mountain biker had sustained suspected chest, back and internal injuries from a high impact crash and after an examination by Edale team leader and doctor, he was given strong pain relief and packaged in a vacuum mattress and casualty bag, transferred onto a stretcher ready for a brisk carry back to the waiting ambulance at the road head.
