Scott smashes Frightful Furty Furlong to win by two minutes

PENISTONE Footpath Runner Scott Hinchcliffe produced another fine performance to win the undulating 3.5 mile Frightful Furty Furlong race in Mapplewell.

The race is put on by Kingstone Runners and is still a relatively new addition to the running calendar.

Results for Penistone runners were: 1, Scott Hinchcliffe 21-46; 5, Hugh Mackie 24-55; 12, Richard Mackie 26-37; 15, Robin Clough 26-52; 31, Tom Fryers 30-34; 32, Shaun Walker 30- 42; 39, Alan Knox 31-11 (first over-60 man); 47, James Fryers 33-03; 49, Ian Sutcliffe 33-33; 54, Keith Gordon 34-10; 59, Stu Smith 34-54.

The latest round of Penistone’s club championship took them to the Lathkil Hotel near Bakewell in the peak district to take on the Leg It Round Lathkil Fell Race.

The race is 7.1 miles long and includes 950 ft of climbing. First man back for Penistone was Gareth Cooke in sixth place, first woman back was Julie Darigala. The club hosted its third winter handicap race with the route taking the clockwise direction up Rock Side.

First runner back was Julian Williams in 32- 20 followed by Jeremy Power (43-26) in second and Daniel Hague (32- 11) third. The three fastest women were: 1, Julia Johnson 34-51; 2, Jemma Williams 35-17; 3, Rachael Mayston 36-44.

The three fastest men were: 1, Robin Clough 28-42; 2, Matthew Robinson 28-57; 3, Lee Storey 29-47. The three fastest aged graded times were: 1, Matthew Robinson 25-39; 2, Julia Johnson 25-59; 3, Barbara Haigh 26-01.
