PLANS SUBMITTED FOR A NEW DISCOUNT FOOD STORE IN CHAPELTOWN A PLANNING application has been submitted to Sheffield City Council for a mixed-use scheme including a discount food store and new houses in Chapeltown. Morbaine, working together with Sheffield-based property company Ackroyd & Abbott, is proposing a new discount food store and eight new houses on vacant land at the corner of Lane End and Thorncliffe Lane in Chapeltown. They say that the new food store will improve the shopping choice and convenience for people in the area and will regenerate a longstanding vacant site, which was once home to Council Trading Standards. It will be easily accessible by foot or public transport from local neighbourhoods. Before submitting the planning application, Morbaine and Ackroyd & Abbott invited local people to view the proposals and provide their feedback at a consultation session which took place in early April.
Adrian Crossdale, Director at Morbaine, said: “To ensure that this development is sensitive to the local area, we have carefully considered the site’s surroundings in our design and listened to the feedback from local people. “The eight new houses will line Thorncliffe View and complement this quiet residential street, with the new food store sitting behind this. GRENOSIDE COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL’S SUMMER FAIR GRENOSIDE Community Primary School Parent -Teacher Association is delighted to announce this year’s Summer Fair will take place on Saturday July 6, 11am to 2pm. Organised by the mums, dads and carers of children at the school, the event promises to be a fun day out for all the family, as well as raising lots of money for the school. This year it will be officially opened at 11am by The Lord Mayor, Cllr Tony Downing. Throughout the day there will be lots of games and activities such as a penalty shootout, lucky dip, pin the cone on the ice-cream and tin-can alley. Other events include boun-
cy castles, glitter tattoos, face painting, raffle, bric-a-brac and the emergency services. There will also be stalls to buy goodies from, plus entertainment from school musicians and performances from local dancers. To make sure no one goes hungry, Grenoside Scout and Guide Group will be in charge of the BBQ and we will have teas, coffees and yummy cakes on sale throughout the day. There will also be a selection of homemade curries and Indian foods to sample. A number of local community groups are also attending to join in with the fun including Miramar Judo Club, Thorncliffe Health and Leisure Centre, Sheffield Music Hub, Ap-
pletree Childcare, Foresteers Forest School, Grenoside playgroups and St Mark’s Church children’s groups. Chair of the Grenoside PTA Lindsey Beever, said: “Each year our summer fair is a great community event and this year will be no different. We ask everyone to come along and enjoy the fun and help raise money for the school.” Entry is 50p per person with under fives gaining free entry with all proceeds going to the school. Raffle tickets will also be on sale with prizes including a Camper Van hire for the weekend courtesy of Leighton Camper Vans, £100
cash donated by the PTA, coloured hampers worth over £80 each created by children at the school, a family photo session and a sports goody bag donated by Thorncliffe Leisure Centre. After the Summer Fair, the Grenoside Scout and Guide Group will be holding a Treasure Hunt from 4pm around Grenoside. The treasure hunt will start and finish at the Scout and Guide HQ on Salt Box Lane, Grenoside. Entry is £2 per team – with a maximum team size of five - and everyone is welcome. Soft drinks and BBQ will be on sale, feel free to bring your own alcohol.
CONCERN GROWS FOR MISSING MAN MINOD Monger from Sheffield has been away from home for seven days, have you seen him? Chief Inspector Helen Lewis, the officer leading the team who are searching for missing Sheffield man Minod Monger has tonight renewed her appeal for help to bring him home. Minod was last seen in the Ecclesfield area of Sheffield at around 5.30pm on Monday June 10. He is described as being Asian with dark black hair and is around 5ft 4ins tall. He was last seen wearing a white jacket, grey joggers and black Crocs. CI Inspector Lewis said: “Minod spends most of his time at home with
his family, it’s very out of character for him to be away from them for this long and we need your help to find out where he is and make sure he’s OK. “Minod is a very physically fit man and it’s possible that he could have walked a long way from home, become disorientated and is now not able to find his way back. “Please keep a look out for Minod his white jacket is very distinctive, his footwear isn’t what you’d expect somebody to be wearing in the awful weather conditions we’ve had in the last week.
“If you’re out walking your dog, having a run or travelling on foot please keep Minod in mind. If you have outbuildings or sheds in your garden or on your property, check to see if he’s there. Do you have CCTV? Please review it and let us know if you see anything that will help our investigation. “If you see Minod please do not approach him.
