Success at Pud races

PENISTONE Footpath Runners enjoyed success both on and off the fells at the weekend.

The Percy Pud 10km race took place on a cold and frosty morning in the Loxley Valley.

The very popular fast course attracted a field of 2,815 runners including international runner Eilish McColgan who is a regular at the race.

Penistone fast man Scott Hinchcliffe was first back for the club in sixth place in a very impressive time of 31-41 just ahead of Eilish who finished in 31-48. Next in was Gareth Cooke in 15th place closely followed by Gary Briscoe in 17th.

Gareth’s time was 32-35, Gary’s 32-58 which was a personal best. Andrew Pearson was first in the men’s over-55 category in 37-37 which was also a new club record for the category.

There were personal bests for Charlie Skipper (35-46), Dave Napier (41-39) and Jane Lawcock (1-01-41).

A good contingent of Penistone runners headed to Tintwistle to take part in the Gravy Pud Fell Race. The route starts on a cobble path in the centre of Tintwistle before heading out over the surrounding moors.

The route is approximately five miles in distance. Damian Kilpin was first back for Penistone in 24th place in a time of 42-00. An excellent run by Julie Darigala gave her third lady overall and 1st in the over-50 ladies category. Teammate Sam Shaw was fourth lady overall and also first in the ladies over-35 age category. Penistone ladies picked up the first team prize with Sarah Walch completing the team alongside Julie and Sam.
