KEEP CALM, KEEP CLEAN, CARRY ON! THE Easter Cross has shone the Stocksbridge for many years now and this year there were many requests from the community for the cross to be lit for an extended period as a symbol of hope during the lockdown period due to the coronavirus. Churches Together in Stocksbridge & District (CTSD), who organise this,

obtained permission for the cross to be lit until the end of April.

justgiving.com/crowdfunding/ctsdeaster-cross-2021

In preparation for Easter, the cross was found to be in desperate need of repair work. The foundations need to be made more secure and the lights also need replacing. To this end, Churches Together created a Just Giving page at https://www.

If you could help to ensure that this amazing symbol of hope continues to shine over our valleys for years to come and can make a contribution towards these repairs. Churches Together would be most grateful.

ARREST MADE IN ROGUE TRADER INVESTIGATION ON May 6, South Yorkshire Police reported that two vulnerable members of our community had been conned by rogue traders into handing over money for work that was never completed.

Following some detailed and dedicated investigative work since that report, on Monday May 18, the team at Deepcar identified and arrested a man from the Barnsley area on suspicion of four counts of Fraud by False Representation.

While the investigation continues, that man has now been released on bail with conditions that prevent him making any unsolicited visits/calls to any member of the public. There is a lot of work still to do, but the team will strive

to achieve the outcome that our victims deserve, and we will update you once we reach that stage. Please remain vigilant and look after those in our community who are more vulnerable to this criminal behaviour.

Eligible business owners urged to apply for Covid-19 support grants SHEFFIELD City Council is encouraging eligible businesses in Sheffield to apply for support grants, available to help them face the challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic. Over the past six weeks, the Council has paid out grants to over 6,700 businesses, totalling £80m. However, although over 7,000 businesses in Sheffield have already applied for the funding, which is designed to help businesses maintain their short-term cash flow during the crisis, there are still a number of eligible businesses in the city who have not yet applied. The grants are available to any businesses that are already in receipt of Small Business Rates Relief (SBRR), who will receive a one-off grant of £10,000. Support grants are also available to rate paying businesses within the retail, leisure and hospitality sectors. Businesses with a rateable value of £15,000 or less are eligible for

£10,000 while businesses with a rateable value between £15,000 and £51,000, will receive £25,000. Businesses can access the Government’s eligibility information and apply for the Support Grants directly on the Sheffield City Council website, but are urged to include their business rate account number, which can be found on the top right corner of their latest council issued business rates bill. Supplying this account number is essential in order for applications to be processed in the quickest possible time. Applications submitted to the Council are processed usually within 10 working days if all the required supporting information is provided and correct. Apply online at: https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/coronavirus-business.
