Lidl plans get go-ahead

THE green light has been given to a new retail development in Chapeltown, despite strong opposition.

Morbaine Ltd and Ackroyd Abbott submitted plans to build eight houses and a retail food store on Thorncliffe Lane, Chapeltown.

It had been recommended that it should be approved and at the planning meeting on August 4, that advice was followed with planning being granted.

An agreement has been reached for Lidl to run the retail property should the planning get the go-ahead.

Over 300 residents signed two petitions with further opposition on the planning application’s webpage.

Among the concerns raised include that the area already has an oversaturation of supermarkets, and an increase in pollution, traffic and noise.
