Rotary Club adapts to continue raising funds for charity
THE Rotary Club of Wortley had to cancel their main annual charity fund raising event in July, the Vintage Vehicle Rally at Wortley Hall.
Charity funds raised each year are allocated to a major benefactor, plus many small charities in our area. This year, the ongoing major benefactor was to be the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity.
An idea to raise charity funds for the Children’s Hospital by way of a virtual raffle was put forward and later organised by Trevor Fletcher, president elect of the Rotary Club of Wortley.
Club members, along with friends and relatives, contributed 10 quality prizes for the event. The aim was to try and raise £1,000.
With the determination of Trevor to succeed, in maximising the efforts of all members of the Wortley Rotary Club, the raffle raised £2,500.
A cheque for the total amount of £2,500 was accepted by Lucy Rathbone, regional fund raiser on behalf of the charity.
The Sheffield Children Hospital Charity has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Persimmon Homes Trust to receive a donation of up to £100,000 if they receive enough votes, through a public vote.
People can vote once per day at www.persimmonhomes/building-futures/finalists. As it stands, The Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity will receive £5,000 just for being a finalist.
The vote closes on September 18. All the money will go to the cancer Ward Six development.
