Stocksbridge transformation plans submitted AN ambitious ÂŁ25 million plan to regenerate Stocksbridge and transform the local area has been submitted by the local Town Deal Board for Government approval and funding. The Board was established as part of the Government's Towns Fund programme which seeks to invest in left behind areas and stimulate development and economic growth. In Stocksbridge it is chaired by local MP Miriam Cates (pictured) and businessman Mark Dransfield, and includes community groups, businesses, local councillors, Stocksbridge Town Council and Sheffield City Council. The Town Investment Plan that was submitted to the Government last week not only prioritises investments that will attract new businesses and job opportunities to Stocksbridge, but also focuses on improving local connectivity, supporting healthier lifestyles, opening up access to education and training, and promoting sustainability. Examples of projects include a new post-16 education hub at Stocksbridge
High School, redevelopment of public spaces on Manchester Road, new sports facilities at Oxley Park, improvements to walking and cycling trails along the Little Don River, investment in Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre, and a new local bus network to serve Stocksbridge, Deepcar, and surrounding villages. Commenting on the proposals, MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge and cochair of the Town Deal Board Miriam Cates said: "This investment plan is a fantastic opportunity for Stocksbridge and Deepcar. We are focusing on levelling up opportunities here in the town and making it an even better place for everyone to live, work and enjoy. "For too long communities like Stocksbridge have not benefited from the investment seen elsewhere in the country, and that is why the Towns Fund programme is so important. These projects will benefit people across the whole of North Sheffield, not just in the town itself. It has been a pleasure working with so many people from across
Stocksbridge to put this Town Investment Plan together, and I would like to thank everyone who has taken part in the process. "When approved by the Government, our plans have the
potential to be truly transformational for Stocksbridge, as they reflect the changes that local people have been calling for for many years. I am looking forward to seeing the Towns Fund help Stocksbridge to unleash its full potential."
The plan was developed after a local consultation in Autumn 2020 that helped to identify priority areas for investment. Together it forms a comprehensive set of projects that can delivered within five years of approval and which
contribute to improving the economic and social life of Stocksbridge, Deepcar, and the surrounding villages.
