Hinchliffe pips fell legend

Husband and Wife Phil and Lisa Hinchliffe (pictured) competed in the Runners v Cyclists event at Bingley.

The popular event involves competitors taking on a challenging route either running or cycling using an off-road bike. Phil opted for a mountain bike and claimed 9th place overall and fourth cyclist back.

He also claimed the first over50 men’s prize edging out fell running legend Ian Holmes who was on a cyclo cross bike. Lisa opted for the running option and finished in a time of 1-01- 11. Richard Cottam also opted for the running option and had a good run to finish in 22nd overall in 40-41.

Damian Kilpin put in a strong performance to take 6th place at the Saltergate Gallows Fell Race which runs over 12.6 miles of tough terrain in the North Yorkshire Moors. He just missed out on winning the men’s over40 agecategory taking second. Others from Penistone competing were Sarah Walch and Mark Graham.

Caroline Hopkins achieved the notable milestone of completing 200 parkruns.

There were also three Penistone runners who placed first in a Parkrun over the weekend, they were James Mumford (Thornes Park 17-50), Dawn Broom (Cwmbran, first lady 22-14) and Julia Johnson (Rothwell, first lady 21-55).
