Market wins National Award The winners of the Great British Market Awards were announced at a prestigious event in Birmingham earlier this month, and a local market was amongst the winners.
Traxx Market, Chapeltown have been voted Britain best community market! The awards were presented by Simon Baynes MP for Clwyd South, the Chairman of the AllParty Markets Parliamentary Group. The awards are organised by NABMA (The National Association of British market Authorities) The award attracts tens of thousands of public votes, and the winner is chosen from a shortlist who are then visited by mystery shoppers and finally selected by a panel of industry experts. Best Community Market - Traxx Market, Chapeltown, Sheffield The awarding panel had this to say about Traxx
“Traxx is a weekly market delivered by a community enterprise. This has been a community project to save a market which had served the community for almost 125 years. It was formally run by a local working men’s club and Covid provided a terminal threat to the future of the market. Three residents formed a community enterprise, and the rest is history.
“From a site that was described as a complete mess with broken stalls and damaged gutters and rat-infested cabins, the market has had a complete face lift. This market has pulled community support and provides an offer that is now very different focussing upon street food and families. It has also not been frightened to ask for help bringing in external eyes to help both trader and operators alike.” “Nominations came in from far and wide and presented the most difficult of jobs for our judging panel. The judg-
ing panel was representative of some of the most experienced market professionals in the industry. We would like to pay a huge thank you to the NMTF and their Chief Executive Joe Harrison for their support of the 2022 Awards. We would also like to thank Blachere Illuminations for their sponsorship of the awards. “Markets have shown great tenacity, innovation and enterprise over the last two years and continue to be valued as key parts of local communities and vital to the regeneration of our towns and cities.” “Congratulations to all our winners.” An overjoyed Paul Swift from Traxx Market told Look Local "We are over the moon to win the award for Best British Community Market 2022. It's the result of lots of hard work and thanks to the team of volunteers, we did it!!"

Two Sheffield school children received personal congratulations from Sheffield Lord Mayor, Councillor Gail Smith, after they beat over 100 entries to become the winners of a now annual childrens’ art competition. The event was organised by leading Sheffield law firm Graysons as part of their sponsorship of the city’s celebrated Art In The Gardens event. Harry Simpson of Forge Valley School, who won the over 9s competition, was joined by under 9s winner Kiera Wade of St Wilfreds Primary School. The competition was judged by local artist Alan Pennington who helped organise the event. Peter Clark, managing partner of Graysons, said: “It has been a real privilege to be involved in Art In The Gardens and one of the highlights has definitely been organising the kids’ art competition. The standard of entry was incredibly high once again and we had a bumper number of entries. There’s no doubt Harry and Kiera were worthy winners”. Graysons have been sponsors of Art In The Gardens for the past three years. Concerned residents Haywood Lane, Deepcar An outline application has been re-submitted to Sheffield City Council Planning Department (21/02283/0UT) to build five 3 and 4 bedroom houses on the deeply slopping hillside on Haywood Lane. With the deadline for objections being the 16 February. The residents, along with Deepcar Councillor Mark Whittaker, are keen for everyone to voice their concerns on the Sheffield Council Planning website. The lane is used as a rat run by cars and lorries and simply cannot take any more traffic for. Parts of the road does not have any pavement and is very narrow, especially at the proposed entrance to the development. Any development will increase the safety risk with the large construction vehicles that would be required to develop such a difficult area of land, as well as the disruption and lengthy road closures that would be required .

In 1976 school-leaver Ian Clancy learned his trade at a local doubleglazing company before making the leap two years later of going it alone. A young enthusiastic worker Ian was described as ‘always first on site and last on site’. It wasn’t long before the hard-working Ian bought his first and current premises on Manchester Road in Deepcar, and set up his own window company Deepcar. These premises are now home to a brand new showroom featuring the latest range of products, from tiled roof system conservatories to composite doors. Early success was to follow when in 1983 Ian was named winner of Yorkshire Televisions ‘Young Enterprise - Businessman of the year’ Ian still has the very first door made by Deepcar back in 1978. Still in perfect working order, the door sits proudly at the back of the showroom, illustrating Deepcar’s pride in their humble beginnings. Ian beams “ Our aim is the same today as it was back then - we will provide the best products and best customer service.” He continues “ In today's busy world we pride ourselves in looking after you the customer and will offer the same level of service whether you are having a new conservatory or a lock fixed on your window.

Sheffield to benefit from new Govt funding
The government has unveiled its levelling up plan for the UK, saying it will mean working people can "take back control of their lives". Sheffield is one of the first of 20 places to benefit from the government funding that aims to transform cities and economies, create new homes, jobs, improve health, education and leisure facilities as well as roads and railways. The strategy, unveiled by Levelling Up Secretary Michael Gove, will take until 2030 and aims to improve services. Mp Miriam Cates told Look Local “The Levelling Up White Paper is a fantastic blueprint for how we're going to make a real difference to people's lives in places like Sheffield. For far too long communities like ours have been left behind, and people have missed out on
the opportunities that exist elsewhere in the country. This announcement shows a way forward to rebalancing our economy and ensuring that everyone has the chance to succeed no matter where they live. Having lived in Sheffield for my entire life, I see the imbalance between London and Yorkshire on a daily basis. That's why I'm committed to playing my part in bringing investment and opportunities to our communities, and why I'm so pleased that the Government has brought forward this new strategy.” MP Olivia Blake told Look Local “For all the Government’s endless talk of “levelling-up”, last week’s report, which we have waited two whole years for, is more of the same: all talk and no substance. New funding commitments represent only a fraction of the money taken

away from Sheffield Council, which have lost £2.1billion in Central government funding since 2010. It will do nothing to reverse the decade of Tory cuts to local authorities and frontline services. Or the fact our regions' transport networks have been cut to the bone. What we needed was a proper package of sustained funding to reverse the decade of Tory austerity, address widening regional inequalities and create well-paid, secure, green jobs in our city. What we got was more empty Government rhetoric.” Leader of the Council, Councillor Terry Fox, said “This is promising news for Sheffield and the South Yorkshire region, and shows that government have recognised our ambitions and all of the great work that is already being carried out here to make our city an even better place to call home.

SMART Scooter rider 17 MOTORWAYS IN 17 DAYS caught UPDATE M A R AT H O N S
Update on investigation following smart motorway fatalities in South Yorkshire
T/Assistant Chief Constable Sarah Poolman said: "I would like to express my heartfelt sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives on the smart motorway in South Yorkshire. Families and campaigners are fighting with dignity and admirable determination in their search for answers and action following these tragedies. "Following concerns expressed by senior coroner Nicola Mundy at the pre-inquest review into the death of Mrs Nargis Begum, the force launched a 'scoping exercise' to ascertain whether there is a reasonable suspicion that Highways England may have committed the criminal offence of corporate manslaughter. Within our terms of reference, we also included the incident which led to the deaths of Mr Jason Mercer and Mr Alexandru Murgeanu. "As part of our work, we sought specialist advice from the Crown
Prosecution Service (CPS). Having considered the CPS advice, we have concluded that in the circumstances, Highways England cannot be held liable for the offence of corporate manslaughter. This is because, in legal terms, the organisation did not owe road users a 'relevant duty of care' under the terms set out in the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007. For this reason, I have brought the police investigation into this offence to an end. "I regret that South Yorkshire Police is unable to provide all the answers that families and campaigners are looking for. However, I can assure them that a thorough and comprehensive report comprising our findings and all of the materials we have gathered during our scoping exercise is now being completed. This report will be provided to Ms Mundy before Mrs Begum's inquest is resumed. It can also be made available to the government and Highways England, with a view that its contents may help inform further enquiries into smart motorways via other avenues in the future."
Louis Alexander, 22, will be attempting to run 17 marathons in 17 days in memory of the 17 years his grandfather lived with dementia. He is also hoping to raise £17,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK through this incredible challenge.
The first marathon will take place on 16th February and Louis will be kicking off the challenge in Sheffield. Louis’ grandfather lived at Chatsworth Grange Care home, Sheffield, in his later years, which is where Louis will commence his first marathon. Despite not being local to Sheffield himself, this area holds a place in his heart because of his grandfather. He will also be visiting our local research lab at the University of Sheffield on the day to meet some of our scientists and chat about the groundbreaking work they are doing to find treatments for dementia

The rider of this scooter thought he could evade PCSO’s when he ducked off the road and round the back of some flats. However, he did not consider the eagle eyed PCSO’s as they located the offender hiding in a stair well. When checks were carried out it was found that he was not insured to ride the moped. The vehicle was swiftly seized under the Road Traffic Act and the rider will be dealt

To prepare for the Peaking for Paces event, and raise as much money as possible in the next 21 months, the team plus their friends and family are holding a series of fundraising activities to support the children, adults and families supported by the charity. The first of these has concluded this week with a virtual John O’Groats to Lands End cycle ride. Collectively, 1,000 miles has been cycled by the team during January – the
distance between the UK’s most extreme locations. In the coming months, supporters will be taking part in the Sheffield Half Marathon, skydiving, enduring Tough Mudder and trekking the Yorkshire Three Peaks and Snowdon as part of the efforts to bring in tens of thousands of pounds. All the events are on the special website www. peakingforpaces.co.uk. The Peaking for Paces challenge is now being formally launched by Paces pupil and fundraising superstar, 11-year-old ‘Captain’ Tobias Weller BEM. In a special video message, he said: “I'm excited to be able to introduce to you a really big challenge, which an amazing group of people are taking on to support me, my classmates, and everyone at Paces. “Next November, they will take on the challenge of trekking to Mount Everest Base Camp. Yes, Mount Everest
Base Camp! Between now and then there'll be fundraising every month and some brilliant events, which I'm super-excited to hear about. “I am chuffed to bits that they are supporting Paces and I hope that you are supporting too.” Dominic Ryles, one of those who came up with the Peaking for Paces challenges, and who will be part of the Everest Base Camp team next year, said: “Seeing the amazing work which the Paces charity do has really empowered me to do more to support them and I wanted to do that by being taken out of my comfort zone - travelling to Nepal and trekking to Everest Base Camp is certainly that! “I am so excited for everything that is planned between now and November 2023 and inspired by the young people of Paces, like Captain Tobias, who go above and beyond every day.
Local News COUNCIL CALLS HALT TO 'EXPENSIVE' SPEED BUMPS Traffic calming measures such as speed bumps will no longer be fitted to some roads in Sheffield as they cost too much, the city council has said. New 20mph zones would only feature traffic signs and road markings due to government cuts, the authority said. In a letter to residents, transport planner Lisa Blakemore said the council could "no longer afford such schemes". The government said the council claim was "misleading" as its funding came via a Private Finance Initiative (PFI). According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, Ms Blakemore wrote in her letter that speed humps had previously been installed in 20mph areas to keep speeds low. However, she added that "while those schemes have been very successful, they are also very expensive". A new advisory 20mph scheme outside Lydgate Infant School in Crosspool would not feature any physical traffic calming measures such as bumps or chicanes, Sheffield City Council said.
from central government for transport-related projects mean we can no longer afford such schemes." A Department for Transport (DfT) statement said councils in Sheffield, Birmingham and the Isle of Wight did not receive highways maintenance funding due to their respective PFIs. "The costs are locked in, so there has been no decrease in funding," it added. "As a result, to say that the DfT is not providing funding is misleading."

College student creates his own career path Barnsley College student, Jack Robinson, has turned his passion into a career by launching his own games and film design business. Jack decided to take the leap and create his business,
Lunar Effect, with the help of iTrust, the College’s business start-up programme exclusively for students. After often playing video games and watching films as a youngster, Jack began
to try his hand at games and movie design when he was just 11. After gaining more confidence in his abilities and realising his interest in his own ideas and stories, Jack took the plunge and opened Lunar Effect back in 2018. Current Level 3 Games Design student, Jack, said: “I’ve always been interested in learning how to make games and soon realised how much I would prefer to work on my own creations rather than those of another company so decided to launch my own business four years ago.
Ms Blakemore said new 20mph limits in Sheffield would be indicated by traffic signs and road markings only. "This is less expensive and allows us to reduce speeds in more residential areas," she added. Flashing lights outside the school would remind drivers of the advisory limit during busy pick-up and drop-off times, she said.
“I have also worked on various projects both on my own and as part of a group throughout my College course which has enabled me to learn more about the different types of games I can create and has opened my eyes to genres I wouldn’t usually work on.”
In response to a Freedom of Information request in 2019, South Yorkshire Police said it would not enforce 20mph speed zones and confirmed no drivers had been prosecuted for exceeding those limits.

Throughout lockdown and outside of his College classes, Jack has been working on multiple games at once, learning how to use new software and researching the games industry as much as possible. As part of the iTrust programme, Jack will also receive a grant of up to £250 which he will use on assets for his game projects which will hopefully make the games look better visually and therefore be more successful. Lee Perks, Enterprise Team Leader at Barnsley College, said: “Jack has taken both his true interests and the skills he has learnt at College and turned them into a business. He has a super creative mind and I am really excited to continue to support him and watch his business grow.”

Dan Broughton & Martin Hearne are celebrating respectively, brutalist architecture and urban Street scenes of Bradford and surrounding areas in their forthcoming solo shows at Cupola Gallery.
then become confused as it doesn’t match exactly, since I have collaged other views and elements on familiar scenes. The people are taken from all over Bradford and contrived together with the street as the boundary. The paintings are all about light and shade, examining particular lighting effects in the city in a ‘Hopperesque’ way. Martin Hearne
Dan Broughton’s painting practice has long been inspired by the aesthetics of Brutalist architecture, excellent examples of which can be found in Sheffield, but this collection of works is primarily concerned with the distillation of the movement’s visual language. Focusing on a few key shapes, the works are deceptively simple in construction; feelings of space and light come and go throughout the collection, with colour and paint application sometimes taking a more prominent role. “Over the past few years of painting, I couldn’t help but notice the frequency at which certain shapes would reoccur in my compositions. I began to think less about the buildings’ fabric and more about the architect’s design process, how they might use the play of light as a tool to create interest and drama in the finished building. I began to distill this “language” and tried to make the paintings with an architectural design approach in mind. I describe my paintings as “architectural abstraction” but during the making of this collection I’ve come to see that this phrase could also be applied to brutalism. I hope that the resulting body of work sheds new light on this particular area of the age old conversation between art and architecture.’ Dan Broughton Martin Hearne has lived in Bradford for over 30 years and the focus of this exhibition are street scenes of Bradford. Martin says “The pictures are based on streets that I travel on regularly. People might get an inkling of where a picture is set, but will

“Both artists are interested in structure and the play of light but in distinctly different ways. One artist has abstracted and distilled their focus whereas the other has kept a certain element of ‘slice of life’ in their paintings but has manipulated the scenes in order to draw the viewers attention to painterly elements, colour, marks, structures and of course, light. Two different artists but with a thread that joins both their practices.” Karen Sherwood, Director. Both artists will be exhibiting around 30 pieces of work ranging in scale from 20x20cm up to 1m x 1m. All works are for sale with prices from £120 - £2000.

Peak district open to all
More people living in deprived areas of Sheffield will be able to experience the benefits of the outdoors, thanks to funding achieved by the Peak District National Park Foundation.
A series of health-boosting activities will be developed with communities in north east Sheffield as a result of the £8900 awarded by the South Yorkshire & Bassetlaw Green Social Prescribing Grants Programme. Community regeneration charity SOAR is working with the Foundation to pilot 'Peak Park Prescriptions' – aiming to remove barriers which prevent people in areas of high deprivation from visiting the National Park. It is hoped that the project will help to improve physical and mental health and general wellbeing by making it easier for people to explore the Peak District, supported by National Park rangers. SOAR, which provides services to improve health, wellbeing and employability, will work with communities to develop activities for rangers to deliver in the National Park. The project will also include transport and support for people to reach places served by public transport.
practical conservation tasks, including tree planting or footpath restoration. We believe passionately in a National Park enjoyed and conserved by everyone. This project will enable us to improve wellbeing through connection to nature and build a greater understanding of the importance of the natural world for people, for climate and for wildlife.”
Foundation fundraising manager Sarah Slowther says: “We’re delighted to have been awarded this funding to pilot Green Social Prescribing. SOAR has an excellent track record in community engagement, health and wellbeing, which will help us to connect communities to the wellbeing benefits of nature.
She adds: “A third of the city of Sheffield falls within the National Park boundary and Sheffield is known as the Outdoor City, yet not everyone feels welcome or confident enjoying the Peak District.
“The range of activities offered will be developed with the community and may include mindfulness walks in the stunning National Park landscapes as well as map reading and navigation skills and

develop skills and confidence to lead walks in the National Park, providing a longer term legacy for the project. SOAR health services manager, Guy Weston, says: “We’re looking forward to working with the Peak District National Park Foundation to expand our health and wellbeing offer. We know that spending time in - and connecting with - nature makes us feel better and we’re fortunate to have a National Park on our doorstep. This project means we can do more to ensure equitable access to green space and to work with our community to understand the impact on physical and mental health.” The project aims to broaden access to the National Park, reducing inequalities, improving physical and mental wellbeing and supporting recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Protect green space
At February’s Sheffield full council meeting, I voted to protect green space and the Green Belt from housing development. As a Conservative Councillor, I want to preserve Sheffield’s reputation At the outset I would like to suggest that levelling as The Outdoor City. The power as always lies with central new homes to give everyone an opportunity to government as both policy maker and banker to get on the property ladder – but homes must be allocate resources. We have an economic system built in the right places. My proposal could have based on greed and the individual, along with the delivered close to 40,000 new homes for Sheffield environment is seen as a resource to be exploited for on brownfield sites, rather than green space or the the benefit of a few individuals with the economic Green Belt. For until you, the person I do not and may never meet, mean as much to me as I do to myself nothing will ever change. Until we have a system where each and every individual is of equal worth we will, and never can have, true levelling up.
Dear Editor After seeing the level of financial support your government has decided to give the public a loan, and £12/month as a council tax rebate if you fall in bands A to D. All I can say it’s not good enough and you need to put your Constituents point forward to the Chancellor.

College students broaden their horizons
Wickham from Wickham and Taylor.
Barnsley College Learning for Living and Work (LfLW) students received insight into the world of work at their Industry Week, including talks from business people and wellbeing advocates.
Throughout the week the students also attended wellbeing sessions intended to teach them the importance of looking after themselves physically, mentally, and financially from Rachel Neale, CVS Volunteering; Kirsty Morgan, Virgin Money; Lee Perks, Enterprise Team Leader at Barnsley College and Wigfield Farm.
The LfLW department supports students with learning disabilities or difficulties to prepare them for independent living or supported employment. The Industry Week enabled students to find out about different types of job roles, how to achieve their career goals and get ahead in the world through speaking with established professionals in interactive sessions. The first session saw Peter Robertshaw, former LfLW student and Founder and Chairperson for H.O.P.E in the Community, share his experience and transferable skills he developed setting up the charity, and how this helped him with his anxiety and depression. Students also took part in a creative practical session designing their own group calendar by Raychel McGuin, Owner and Founder of Art by Raychel; creative and communications company E=MC2; and personal and business wellbeing initiative, Being in Full Colour. Stocksbridge Rugby robbed by the weather On a cold, wet, wintery, blustery day at Coal Pit Lane, Globe Holidays sponsored Stocksbridge Rugby got their first taste of play off rugby in the Yorkshire Premier Division 4 against York RI at the weekend. The game however, was disrupted by the weather & eventually abandoned at half time with Stocksbridge in front by 2 tries to nil. The league are due to rule on the events as both Captains, & the Match Official ruled the conditions were fit to carry on, only for the visiting Coach to refuse to allow his men onto the field for the second stanza complaining of the onset of hypothermia amongst his troops. Playing any kind of rugby in the conditions was a bit of a lottery, but the home team coped better & were
rewarded when Clock Tower Andy Beal, sponsored by Mr M Gribbins plunged over from close range after a forward rumble, followed shortly by a muscular effort from the slim line Gary Woodcock, sponsored by Ms Diane Woodcock. There was still time for the unfortunate Dan Burt to suffer a fractured tibia in a seemingly innocuous collision, & the burly Jordan Fletcher succumbed to a foot injury & was replaced by the returning Sam Whittaker. The signs all pointed to a probable home victory, but the club will now have to wait for the league to rule. The Fox Catering Player of the Day award went to Gary Woodcock, for an industrious performance with all
the forwards dominating in the unforgiving conditions. The January Charlesworth Landscapes Man of Steel has been announced as the popular hooker Mikey Hartley, kindly sponsored by Hartley Haulage. Stocksbridge will face tougher opponents next week when they travel North to face Thirsk Rugby in Round 2 of the play offs. Reflecting on the events, Director of Rugby Andy Tyers said, ‘I’ve never met such conditions in all my years in Rugby, & credit should go to all the lads who took to the field’ adding ‘we were prepared & ready for a test, so we will go again at the weekend’.
A NEW STATE-OF-THEART NHS CLINIC TO OPEN IN THE GLASS WORKS THIS SPRING A new NHS diagnosis centre, which will bring high-tech healthcare directly to the heart of Barnsley, moved a step closer today with news that it will open to patients this Spring. The centre, based in The Glass Works, will help alleviate pressure on existing NHS facilities and will be open seven days a week. With access to the 670 parking spaces in The Glass Works car park, it is seen as a more convenient way for patients to receive ultrasound, X-ray, breast screening, phlebotomy and bone density scans. Barnsley Hospital’s Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Delivery Officer, Bob Kirton, said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer vital diagnostic services to our communities in Barnsley and beyond at such a convenient location. The Glass Works is perfect for our patients and will mean
people will not have to spend so much time travelling to and from the hospital for these important appointments.”
The new clinic adds an interesting new dimension to The Glass Works, which opened in September and has attracted several national retail and leisure brands – including Next, TK Maxx, River Island, Cruise, Fridays, Nando’s, Cineworld and Superbowl UK. The clinic is seen as another great way to bring people right into the heart of Barnsley.
Connor Mountain ready to swap bikes for new speedway season Mountain, who has made the switch from King’s Lynn to Owlerton this winter, has been out on his motocross bike to keep fit during the cold weather.
Mountain is pleased to be returning to Sheffield for a second spell after riding for Tigers in the play-offs as a guest at the end of last season. He said: "It was great to have a few meetings with Sheffield in the play-offs last season. “Jack Holder was definitely one of the top guys in the league so it’s always nice to try pick up some things from the likes of him.
But he’s counting down the days to his return to the speedway track and is looking to book some track time soon – possibly at Leicester. "Preparations for the season are going very well,” he said. “I’ve reinvested a lot into equipment and I’m very happy with where the bikes are at this year. “Also personally as it’s pre-season my nutrition and training is a big priority heading into the season. "I’m planning to be back out on the bike in February, I’ve been out on the motocross bike over the winter to keep riding but am very much looking forward to being back on the speedway bikes.”
“I rode with Adam (Ellis) a bit last year as a guest for Scunthorpe and Sheffield and we always get on well. “I think the team has a great bunch of guys in and I’m looking forward to being a part of it and working with Steady (boss Simon Stead) too.” The new season starts on Thursday March 24 with a testimonial for former Tigers racer Todd Kurtz but the first Sheffield team action at home is on Thursday April 7 against northern rivals Belle Vue in League Cup action. Wind and Rain Disrupts Golf The recent wind and rains have disrupted the winter golfing season at Stocksbridge Golf Club. Golfers at the club are a hardy bunch but when the storms of the last week of January hit, it made the playing conditions at 1000 feet above sea level course very tricky. Yet there were still some that braved the difficult conditions to play in the latest round of the Club Winter Cup on 29 January. Phil Beaumont (21) added to his lead in the overall competition, winning this leg with 33 points. Eric Wilkinson (9), Malcolm Ingles (18) and Rob Betts (11) all came in with the same score as Phil, but finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively on countback.

Mangham treble inspires big win Stocksbridge PS 5-2 Hebburn Town
On a windy day, Sam Finlaw gave the Steels the lead when his long range shot took advantage of the conditions to fly in. The lead was doubled when Luke Mangham scored from close range. Hebburn got one back through a tidy finish by Oliver Martin but the second half saw the game turn back in the Steels favour. Josh Nodder scored after an initial shot was blocked off the line before he picked out Mangham brilliantly so he could finish. A Finlaw set piece landed at the feet of Mangham who took the chance to become a hat trick hero. The gales typical to Stocksbridge were always going to play a part in this game but it probably wasn’t expected to make an impact so early. The ball found its way to Finlaw who decided to have a go from around 35-yards out. The wind took it and baffled the Hebburn keeper who was unable to stop it from going into the back of the net. In what was quickly becoming reminiscent of the away match at Hebburn when Stocksbridge ran out as 5-1 winners, they soon doubled their lead. Nodder got it to Mangham in the box and from close range he finished to give the Steels a comfortable lead. To Hebburn’s credit, they fought back well and started to take control of the game. They would soon test new goalkeeper Michael Roxburgh who was making his debut after signing earlier in the week from Huddersfield Town. A set piece from Tom Potter fell to Jack Donaghy who volleyed goalwards for the 19year-old goalkeeper to pull off an impressive

save. He’d be quick again to save from Martin before Reece Fielding made sure Amar Purewal couldn’t follow it up. It was inevitable that Hebburn would score though and eventually they had one back. Martin, coming off the back of a hat trick in his last game, was able to turn his defender after advancing into the box before curling it past Roxburgh to make sure he didn’t get a clean sheet on his debut. Steels got off to a great start in the second half with Mangham being played in on the left hand side but his shot was well saved by Foden. Hebburn put pressure on but despite, but it was the home-side who would get the next goal. Nat Crofts worked well to get the ball to Mangham and while his shot beat Foden, it was blocked on the line by a defender. Luck was on Stocksbridge’s side as the ball fell to
Nodder who smashed in to restore their two goal advantage. This was when the game really turned in Stocksbridge’s favour as they were able to get the commanding lead they had back in Hebburn. Nodder got the ball on the left but most of the players were with him on the left wing. There was only Mangham in the box but the winger managed to find Stocksbridge’s top scorer who when getting the ball, duly finished.

The fifth came not long after. Finlaw’s corner was headed back across the goalmouth where Mangham was there to knock in to get his hat trick. It capped off an impressive performance by the striker who shot himself up the Northern Premier League scoring charts.
