It’s been a decade since the likes of Amy Childs, Mark Wright, Lauren Goodger and Sam Faiers burst onto our screens on reality show The Only Way Is Essex. And now, 10 years after their countless spray tans, tantrums and vajazzles caught the nation’s attention, some of the original cast are set to make an epic return for an anniversary special later this year.
But with Mark, 33, reportedly spearheading the highly anticipated reunion, new can reveal one of the show’s most iconic cast members could have a battle on her hands when it comes to bagging a role in the series – his former fiancée Lauren Goodger.
The pair split in 2012 after dating on and off for 11 years, yet tensions still seem to be running high between them as Lauren made a thinly veiled dig at her ex on Instagram recently when she referenced the “unlucky bastards who lost us”.
And now a source close to Lauren has told new she would be devastated if their history means she can’t be part of the homecoming.
“Lauren would be heartbroken if she wasn’t on the TOWIE reunion,” our insider said. “She was one of the original cast members and gave her whole life to that show. Even the Duchess of Cambridge said Lauren was her favourite. Lauren’s moved on from Mark and wishes him the best.” Our source added that Lauren brought more to the show than just drama with her former flame. “Lauren’s time on the show Mark Wright is planning TOWIE’s 10th anniversary – without ex Lauren Goodger
wasn’t just about Mark – she went through other things on there which she spoke about,” continued our mole. “She would feel like the outcast and it would really affect her. She wouldn’t even be able to watch it.”
However, a separate source believes Lauren has little chance of being invited back.
“There is absolutely no way Mark would have Lauren involved,” revealed our insider. “He just wouldn’t have her on set or any part of it.” But while it remains to be seen if Lozza gets the go ahead to film, Amy, her cousin Harry Derbidge and Kirk Norcross – who dated Amy on and off throughout the early years of the show – are all on board.
“Mark came up with this big idea to do a 10-year TOWIE reunion,” continued our insider. “He’s been throwing around the idea with some of the original cast and most of them seem well up for it. He wants a key role, like a producer or director, so we’re not sure if he will be in it or not. Amy is up for it and Harry said he would if Amy would.”
And speaking exclusively to new last week, Kirk, 31, admitted it would be an “honour” to reunite with his telly pals, gushing, “It was a rollercoaster of a journey with TOWIE but what a ride it was!” He praised Mark’s “phenomenal” career, which has seen him establish himself as a presenter both in the UK and in Hollywood on Extra, and added, “I am blessed that I was in the original cast and that the show has had 10 years of longevity.”
Sadly, one of Mark’s other exes, Sam Faiers, won’t be making an appearance either, with her rep telling us, “She will not be returning for the reunion.”
Our source added, “Billie Faiers, Gemma Collins and Joey Essex weren’t in the original series and James Argent probably wouldn’t do it.”
Come on, guys, get involved – you know you’ll be well jel!
