As [ delve into the Archi\,ex o f the School. it is interesting to note that we can trace the oliginhol-oul- School totheinitial site inAlbert Park. In 1889 the Sisters ofthe Institute ofthe Blessed Vii·giii Mary responded to a deniand for Catholie ed,ication, and began a School in Albert Park, Thirty five years later, this site at Albert Park become too small for the number of students, and so
the School was moved to tile site in Toorak, at the suggestion and invitation of the Bishop. Therefore. as we recognise the Anniversary this year o!'8() years in Toorak. we also cel chi·.ite the impressive milestone of 115 years of I,oreto education fur girls in the Archiliocese of Melbourne. We stand in a long and
deep tradition and the students 01-2004 students are an important part ofthe continuing hlory.
We have had a nonderful year together: a year full ofjoy. As we enjoy i-ending
the pages to follow. 1 Collgratulate our students on all that they have achie,ed this year.
1 wish the u hole Loreto Commlinity e,ery peace and joy ofthe Christmas Season.

This is particillarly so in the case of Mrs Pat O 1 Ialloran who has been a filithful Menant of Loreto Mandiville Ilai] at both the primary and second.try school levels for twenty years. hi her capacity as Liturgy Coordinator in the Senior School, Pat has been an inspiration to both Stall, students und parents.
Pat brought to this role a deep prayerfulness and an ability to work uith every age group in a way that was appropriate to them, Her thoughtful approach to our Father/
Daughter Masses. her joy' idien she thought of a new idea for a 11 1 :.3 +ter or Chi jktmas liturgy, Iici care in planning the many liturgies to farewell our senior studenth and Iicidetermiii.ition in organi, ing early morning Masses for the whole Scliool (unmunity are powerful examples of how one person can make such a significant difference to a school coniniunity.
Pat also took on organi/ing tile Epworth Prayer Ministry tor our ,enioi- students
which has been. fur the last six years, a great success in that it involved ho many of our senior students who volunteered their services to assist ministering to the sick on a Sunday morning. Many ofthese students have continued this iii inistry long after thev liake left schooL

positive sporting role models speak of how their lives are enriched and how they overcome adversity to get where they are today, because sport plays a large part in their lives.
The girls had hands on experience as they engaged in a competitive game of Wheelchair Basketball. Shaun shared his unique insights into life as a wheelchair athlete and demonstrated the skills he has developed to enable him to play Wheelchair Basketball. It was interesting to hear that many able-bodied people also have the opportunity to play wheelchair sport at a local level. often in support of a disabled family member or friend,

PAST PUPILS Sr Deirdre Rofe
Cocktail Evening Laughter, chatter and cool jazz - punctuated by occasional shrieking - were the prevailing sounds ofthe DeirdreRofe Scholarship Cocktail Evening on July 31 organised by women from the classes of 1984 to 1987.
Around 120 attended the event in Mandeville Hall. Much
effort went into locating people to invite them. Though we could not trace some, it was terrific to see how many keep in touch and the strong friendships that have outlasted our
school days. Seeing so many familiar faces and hearing people's different life stories made it a very memorable evening.
Annual Appeal 2004 We have thoroughly enjoyed working with past students who knew Sr Deirdre in this year's fundraising efforts to establish the Deirdre Rofe Scholarship for Leadership. Events The Class of 1988, led by Genevieve Walker and Meg
Kelliher (Cunningham), held a wonderful Cocktail Party in the Oak Parlour in June. The Class of 1981, with the help of Caroline Silk (Woodley), Felicity Byrnes and Melissa Smith
(Carrington). arranged a gathering of classmates at Melissa's home to promote the Scholarship and invite their support. Members of the Class of 1982 arranged a special mail out encouraging their classmates to support the Scholarship Appeal and Mr John Arthur contacted other members of past Fathers' Committees to seek their support. Wedding Gift with a difference When Debbie (Chipp '71) married Witold Wolski on
27 June this year at St Ignatius, Richmond, they had a slightly unusual request. Instead of wedding gifts, they asked their wedding guests to give a donation to Sr Trish Franklin's Loreto Vietnam Australia Programme. This wonderful gesture resulted in a $4,000 boost to the Programme. Congratulations Debbie and Witold!
