The Force awakens Newlyn under the star(s) wars
FOR all the folk who are massive Star Wars fans but were holding out to see it under the stars in Newlyn, you can stop holding your breath… the first ever outdoor movie night is Saturday March 5 and will of course screen none other than, wait for it… nah just kidding - no need to wait any longer, ‘Star Wars - The Force Awakens’, like durr, what else?! The evening will commence at 6.30pm with live music, and a jumping castle, complete with real movie food - popcorn, fairy floss and a sausage sizzle, with movie kick off at sun down, around 8.30pm. Tix - at the gate, $10 per adult, $5 per children / pensioner or $30 per family, read: bargain! Parking is available on or around the oval, It’s recommended to bring your own chairs or beanbags and BYO alcohol isn’t allowed. Newlyn Recreation Reserve, Midland Highway... in Newlyn!

GLENLYON’S Annual Food and Wine Fair has made such an impact on the gastronomic calendars around these parts it’s had to be moved! The new venue at the Glenlyon Reserve means plenty of space and even room to picnic on the wares you’ve bought from our amazing local producers, the kids can also go wild on the Reserve playground (read: peace for mums and dads!) The date has also shifted and will now take place on Sunday 6 March from 11am-4pm. No entry fee this year, but a gold coin donation would be welcomed for the CFA who do a stellar job of managing the parking. And of course you can buy a Food and Wine Fair tasting glass (just to add to the collection!) There’ll be the usual entertainment with live music and tastings. Thank you folks of Glenlyon and the 30+ stall holders showcasing their wares, we’ve had a word to the weather gods and they have everything crossed for a sunny autumn day. FOLLOWING on from last year’s ChillOut ‘We Are Family’ community forum, the crew at VAC have teamed up with The National Centre for Farmer Health to host ‘You Are Not Alone’ — a forum about striving for great mental health and wellbeing. LGBTI Victorians living in regional and rural areas face a range of issues that challenge their happiness and wellbeing, from social isolation to addressing stress before it becomes debilitating. The aim will be to discuss several of these issues as well as advise on available resources and how they can better address the needs of LGBTI community members living in country Victoria based on the flow of discussions. The session is free and will run from 2pm Saturday March 12 at the Daylesford Neighourhood Centre, 13 Camp Street. at the slowest lunch
CHILLOUT has partnered this year with RDA Daylesford as the Roz Moynihan Worthy Cause to present the Slowest Lunch. The lunch raises awareness and funds to support the great work of the RDA, (Riding for the Disabled) which is a grassroots volunteer based organisation which has 39 centres, 1200 riders, 800 volunteers and has been operating for over 40 years. They currently provide suitable horses, trained volunteer helpers, accredited RDA coaches, riding and safety equipment to run a range of equestrian activities to assist people with disabilities to experience enjoyment, challenge and a sense of achievement through equestrian activities. This year’s Slowest Lunch is Friday 11 March – 12:30 – 4pm and will be hosted by the Lake House restaurant in The Terrace Room (4 King Street, Daylesford). HOW cute does the ‘Festival of Small Halls sound?’ Cute enough that our cutest small hall in Glenlyon (town of cute) won a gig in the Festivals of Small Halls line up! Yay for Glenlyon and yay for us! The fest takes the best folk and contemporary acoustic artists performing at two of Australia’s big festivals, and sends them on the road to tiny halls all over our big land. Produced by the Woodford Folk Festival in partnership with other wonderful Australian festivals, regional partners and great lovers and supporters of folk and contemporary acoustic music. A fab opportunity for music-lovers from small towns and communities to invite artists from all around to explore our vast country and amazing hospitality all in the spirit of great fun. Lucky for us, the lovely volunteers that dedicate much of their year to planning Trentham Easter Art & Craft Show, were on the ball. They have opened entry to all artists, amateur and professional, from not only the local area but wider afield. The show will be held at the Mechanics Hall (High St, Trentham) during Easter. Entrants may exhibit up to three art/craft works ($10 per exhibit*/no charge for entrants under 18 years of age).
