So, what is Baby Yoga? Nearly everyone Felicity meets asks the same thing ‘how can a baby do yoga?’
Lots for Baby… From calming yoga to time saving full of goodness food to handmade nursery furniture & personalised newborn gifts...
Baby Yoga Various classes suitable from 12 wks - 3 yrs
Flowing postures, holding, movement, touch, voice & deep relaxation *encourages ‘settled’ behaviour *stimulates baby’s systems inc nervous & digestive *Deep relaxation aids with stress & sleep Classes held at The Bridge Centre, Mickleover on Tuedays. Currently Running: 12 wks-Crawling 09:45 - 11.15 Crawling until Walking 11.20 - 12.50 For Details contact Felicity on 07886 - 592804 or e-mail yoga@bohemianbaby.co.uk
Forget about images of newborns doing headstands and your 6 month old perfecting the lotus position and think more about babies natural reflexes, their ability to absorb information from facial expressions, the importance of parent child bonding. Particularly in today’s world babies spend a lot, if not a little too much time either in restrictive car seats or in places where they gain limited exercise. Baby Yoga allows babies to develop hip and arm movements, strengthens the back and neck and aids in developing crawling and walking. Through eye contact and songs babies develop crucial social skills which lay a foundation for their emotional intelligence as adults. Through movement and holds you can stimulate the bodies systems and ease colic. Deep relaxation is nurtured for parent and baby which helps reduce stress and aids sleep. These are just a selection of the benefits of baby yoga which hopefully show how relevant it can be. In addition to this, mild postnatal exercises and breathing techniques are taught to parents to help with their own relaxation, stress reduction and helps support them through early parenthood. Whether you are a new parent to your first or fifth baby, yoga has something to offer everyone. You do not need any previous yoga experience to attend classes. Above all it is fun, and provides an environment where parents and babies are nurtured.

Story Corner “Mummy – what’s an egg?” “What kind of egg do you mean, dear?” “An Easter egg or a chicken’s egg?” “I don’t know….” “Well Easter eggs are usually made out of chocolate, very yummy, which people give as presents at Easter. A chicken’s egg is what baby chickens come from. The little chick is all curled up all cosy inside growing bigger and bigger till it is ready to come out.” “How does it get out?” “Oh, I think it pecks it way out with its beak. The shell breaks into small pieces, then the little chick climbs out, all fluffy and warm.” “If it’s warm – won’t it melt the chocolate?” By Sophie Snell. Sophie is a writer and storyteller based in Quarndon, performing at schools, preschools, museums, libraries and festivals. Her website is www.sophiesnell.co.uk . Email robandsophie@hotmail.com

Have you ever heard a pin drop in a room full of 25 toddlers? "Not likely "you say? Well then you have never seen a production by Big Window Theatre Company. I took my 3 year old to see "More Story Please" at St Alkmund's Church, Kedleston Road, Derby and she, along with the rest of the young audience was transfixed. Abi doesn’t want to go to sleep; she wants “MORE STORY PLEASE” so Mum & Dad invent a story which takes them on an exciting adventure. They travel by bus, by train and even by space rocket and they have a wonderful time. “More Story Please” is designed for 2 – 4 year olds and their families. Using music and active storytelling, the three actors take the children on a magical journey using simple everyday objects and familiar settings, freeing
12
imaginations and inspiring creative play. Nottingham Playwright Nick Wood was commissioned to write the play especially for Big Window Theatre company and it would appear that he knows his audience very well. The play itself is only 25 minutes long and comes to a close just as little bottoms begin to fidget. Parents and children feel a part of the play from the beginning by sitting on mats & cushions in front of the stunning set which has a circus tent feel to it. After the performance, children & parents split into groups with the actors and get the chance to explore and investigate the set, play with props, choose their favourite parts of the story & re-enact them. The whole experience lasted no more than an hour but my daughter and I both left wanting more. Not only were the children of the audience
info@lotsfortots.info
entertained & enthralled but so were the adults. The writer wisely nods to the parents of the audience by slipping in little references to make the grown ups smile and I found myself nodding knowingly at the Mum & Dad's reactions to their child not sleeping! The actors captured just the right tone for their young audience. Their enthusiasm was contagious and drew us all in to the story. Their performances were engaging, exciting and lively without condescending to the children.
"Abi" and Luke explore the set Big Window Theatre Company are an East Midlands Company and they are touring "More Story Please" once again this year around Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire. They are looking for Nurseries, Playgroups, Children's Centres, Church Halls that would like to host their performances. If you would like to book a performance or see it for yourself contact Janet Young on 01332 609552/ 07769 657083 or email Jan@bigwindowtheatre.com To find out more about them and "More Story Please" visit www.bigwindowtheatre.com

Lots for Tots Editor Nadine with the Mickleover Pee Wee Squad- Star Steppers School of Dance
Go Pee Wee Squad! Star Steppers School of Dance are a hugely successful School with nearly 300 pupils at 6 centres across South Derbyshire. In November they opened their first Cheerleading Academy at Da Vinci Community College to provide coaching for local children in Derby East. Star Steppers joined with the Derby City School Sport Partnership & local Schools, supported with funding from Sport Unlimited. The overall aim is to inspire children to get active & take up a hobby where they can exercise regularly. Star Steppers celebrated the huge success of the project with the Star Steppers Unstoppable Cheerleading Showcase in February. Each of the squads were awarded with a trophy for their hard work & enthusiasm. Over 300 children took part performing to friends, relatives and invited guests. Lots for Tots were very proud to sponsor the under fives Pee Wee Squads based in Mickleover & Findern & were honoured to present the trophy. Go Pee Wees!
