Lots for Baby…

Children’s Tooth Gel loved by mums and kids Children’s Tooth Gel not only tastes great, but more importantly it contains natural ingredients that are especially good for kids’ teeth. Parents need not worry about children swallowing large amounts of toothpaste as they learn to brush. There are no hidden nasties - no detergents, no bleaches, no fluoride, no foam boosters or whiteners, no artificial colours, flavours or synthetic additives. A key ingredient is organic calendula, used in the Weleda Baby range for its mild, soothing, healing properties. Popular for skincare, it's also great for gums. Children’s Tooth Gel (rrp £2.75 50ml) is available from selected Waitrose stores, most good health stores and independent pharmacies. What is Babylicious? Babylicious is really tasty food for babies & children., quickly frozen to seal in all the yummy goodness, just like you would at home. We develop these recipes using the ingredients you'd find in your kitchen.

Why Frozen? Our

meals

are

quickly

frozen

so

they're as fresh & tasty as possible. Freezing

locks

in

all

the

natural

goodness- it's nature's way! We don't need

additives,

salt,

preservatives,

flavourings or colourings to make our food taste great- we just freeze it.

How fresh is fresh? Chilled

ready

meals

are

preserved

by

heating cooked

food

to

high

temperatures in the pack to kill bugs. When you heat the food again at home it destroys vitamins & minerals & makes the food taste, well overcooked. Yuk! We freeze in the goodness so there's no overcooking & loads more retained vitamins. Simple.

What's in our meals? We insist on using only the highest quality ingredients from trusted farms & sources where every ingredient is fully traceable. If it's not in your kitchen it's not in our food.

Where can I buy Babylicious? You can find Babylicious & Kiddylicious products at Asda- Spondon, through Ocado

Story Corner Dad Paul was very tall, and wore glasses. Mum Sally was pretty in pink, (and she was expecting a baby). Little Thomas wore brown trousers and always got them dirty. One day they were having tea, with chocolate cake. Yum, yum! Dad’s plate was green. Mum’s plate was purple. Thomas’ plate was little – brown with a spaceship on. But today they couldn’t find their plates. “Oh dear!” said Mum. They looked all about the kitchen. They tried the cupboard – lots of cups, but no plates. They tried the dishwasher – it was full of dirty bowls, but no plates. They looked in the fridge – plenty of food, but no plates. “Oh dear! How can we eat our cake without plates?” said Mum. “We’ll just have to eat off our laps,” said Dad (he was hungry). So they sat and they ate. “Yummy, yum!” said Thomas, and he wiped his hands on his trousers. I told you they get dirty! “We’ll have to wash your trousers!” said Mum. “Let’s put them in the washing machine,” said Dad. So Thomas put them in the washing machine. And there were the three plates! Mum smiled a bit sheepishly, “Now how did they get there?” By Sophie Snell. Sophie is a writer and storyteller based in Quarndon, performing at schools, pre-schools, museums, libraries and festivals. Music to Move Toddlers Being something of an amateur Musician myself, I was looking forward to meeting Laura Zobel of Opus. Laura is a Co-Artistic Director for Opusa non-profit making organisation that offer creative musicmaking opportunities in our community. Laura and I met to chat about her work within Derby's Nurseries.

Laura has a real passion for bringing music into the lives of children and she believes that the earlier we start the better. Music and Movement Workshops are purposely designed to encourage many of a young child's essential life skills such as co-ordination, rhythm, using descriptive language, as well as increasing their confidence and introducing them to a lifelong relationship with music. Laura described the effect of her classes "You can really see a difference in the children's confidence as they join in. It also gives Early Years Workers the confidence to sing in front of the children!" Each workshop works on developing new skills. "One approach is to lay out instruments around the room then let the Children come in. It sometimes takes them a while to pick up an instrument & do something with it. We spend some time observing and interacting with them, allowing the child to lead. We use rhythm as a kind of conversation. This approach allows the child to explore their musicality and expression ". Each Workshop combines a unique mixture of independent and observed play with structured activities such as action songs, finger play, rhymes, listening activities, movement and dancing, imaginative play and instrument playing. Several of Derby's Nurseries have undertaken Opus' Music and Movement Workshops including Kingfisher Nursery- Duffield Road, Leapfrog Nursery- Oakwood, Oak House Nursery- Mickleover, Whitecross Nursery- Watson Street, Whitehouse Nursery- Spondon and Derwent Stepping Stones Nursery- Chaddesden. If you would like to see a Music and Movement Workshop at your child's Nursery or Playgroup, you can discuss it with your Nursery Leader or contact Laura Zobel on 01332 551083

CUBE café

Lots for Tots Online has teamed up with traditional toy store Knot Just Jigs to bring you a fantastic competition to spend £15.00 on anything from the online shop. Take a look at www.knotjustjigs.co.uk. For lots more information, sign up to receive a newsletter with updates of clubs, classes, toddler groups, events and links at www.lots-for-tots.net

You may already know the CUBE café at Déda (formerly Derby Dance in Chapel St) for it's child-friendly facilities and great home-made food. Now Andy at the CUBE wants to develop the café's food on offer for small children and needs your help to get it right! He's looking for ideas for good food for tots that's practical to serve in a café setting, plus your thoughts on other aspects like names of dishes, nutritional input etc. "Many parents trust us because we can say exactly what goes into our food. Now we'd like to make a small range of dishes that really work for little eaters, so we'd like to ask the experts. Hopefully, with the help of Lots for Tots readers, we'll cook up something unique for Derby's children" Your ideas will be drawn together at several "TotTastic Tasting Times" to be scheduled during February/March at the CUBE. If you're interested in participating, email tots@thisiswherewecook.co.uk or visit the website for more details at www.thisiswherewecook.co.uk/tottastic
